      Glad you enjoyed it! I hope you got your VM and HA working perfectly.
      Thats a few months old now so the VM installation has changed
      a little but the general process is the same.

    You are amazing. I have spent the whole afternoon trying to get HA installed and setup. I was just about to throw it against the wall and I came across your instruction. I followed it exactly and now I am setup and online. Thankyou so much mate, your a champ. No one else came close to explaining it like you have. If I meet you one day I'll buy you a beer.

    Thanks for a helpful video, I have my HA running on a Windows VM using the same software. The only downside I seem to have is that it doesn't support Bluetooth devices in HA. Do you have this problem to or is there a workaround?

    • @smart_home_australia
      @smart_home_australia  8 місяців тому +1

      Bluetooth can be quiet problematic for a VM, but is ultimately solvable. Firstly you need to buy a USB Bluetooth that is supported, you can find the list of supported devices shorturl.ac/7c6l1. Next you'll need to plug in your bluetooth device to your computer. Note that Windows 11 only supports one bluetooth stack so your main Bluetooth will work in Device Manager and the second will be shown as not working. Next in the VM Window at the bottom you'll see a USB plug in the system tray of the VM. right click and select your USB Bluetooth device. This will allow for passthrough of your USB Bluetooth adaptor to the VM. Now for good measure reboot Home Assistant and it should now detect your Bluetooth stick so you can add the integration. Otherwise Add the integration manually and it should find your USB Bluetooth adaptor. Just make sure you are selecting the right one otherwise it will be unstable.
      Let me know how you go as this can be a problem.

    Thanks for this, helped me with my HA setup.. my HA keeps crashing Windows 10 and going into blue screen... could it be due to having just 15gb free?

    • @smart_home_australia
      @smart_home_australia  3 місяці тому

      How big is your hard disk / SSD? Have you "cleaned it" are you running huge swap files? There are many reasons why this might be happening.
      If you are running in a VM on Windows, make sure you have 32GB allocated to the VM HD, that you have 2 CPU's allocated and that the host OS, Windows, have at least 2 CPU's allocated.
      After that I'd check the system logs (in Event Viewer) and check to see what caused the crash.
      Hope that helps.

    Does the Home Assistant version in the Virtual Box environment have the add-on’s or is it the core version without the knobs and bells?
    My Holy Grail would be the ability to run a Windows vm with CasaOS/Home Assistant & Frigate. The problems seem to be passing through the Coral TPM and hard drive management in CasaOS 😞 on a Windows based vm. Even tried WSL2, no go either. It all works on Linux natively. Maybe in time 🤞

    • @smart_home_australia
      @smart_home_australia  8 місяців тому

      The VM version that you install on the Windows platform is the "full fat" version 🙂. You get add-ons, supervisor etc.... As for running CasaOS etc. I dont see why not. It's just a matter of making sure that your hardware can run that many VM.'s. I run on a 6 core HP Mini (link in the description to the specific model) and it runs 3 VM's plus with ease and virtually silently. and at 35W its actually very power efficient.

    My Home assistan VM wont obtain an IP when I use bridge mode. Is it because the host is on WIFI? On Home Assistnats website it says its not supported but it appears to work on yours in this video.

    • @smart_home_australia
      @smart_home_australia  7 місяців тому

      Hi @jasonhenry3352, Home Assistant list to have a solid reliable internet connection hence they say not supported. I run a WiFi 6E network and although the Host Server only runs WiFi 5, it never misses a beat. So Bridge mode works perfectly. Check www.home-assistant.io/installation/alternative for the installation on Virtual Box.

    Hello sir, i got to the starting of the application at 8:21 and few minutes later, i was told that "The virtual machine failed to boot, That might be caused by a missing operating system or misconfigured boot order."
    Pleaae what do I do???

    • @smart_home_australia
      @smart_home_australia  5 місяців тому

      hi @manmanosky4868, I'd say that you picked up on the wrong image file. Go to www.home-assistant.io/installation/alternative, and download the .vdi file.
      Then repeat 7:16 of the video making sure that you add the .vdi file you downloaded.
      That should clear up your error.

    • @smart_home_australia
      @smart_home_australia  2 місяці тому

      If you check www.home-assistant.io/installation/, it explains that this installation onto a VM is HA OS. The other types of installation are container, core and supervised.

    8:44 please help me out. I am not able to use the ip address, i keeps showing me error on my browser, and its not internet

    • @smart_home_australia
      @smart_home_australia  6 місяців тому

      Hi @Bro_Bubby, so the localhost method does work but the IP address doesn't work?
      There might be afew reasons for this, the most likely are that you are inserting HTTPS and not HTTP. You need a secuer token to use the HTTPS method, something we've not covered yet. Try with just xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8123 (replace the XXX with the IP address that is shown in the terminal) and should access your HA instance.
      If this still fails but you can still access through localhost, then try going into SETTINGS > SYSTEM > NETWORK, and under IPv4 you should be able to verify (and change) your IP address (make sure you add /24 onto the end of the IP address).
      Another reason might be that you have a conflict on your IP address if you have manual set it. If thats the case you can either let DNS allocate an IP address for you (not preferred) or verify a free IP number from your router and set the IP address from either your router or in HA through the process above.
      I hope that helps.

    I create my home assistant using virtual box, question is that normal if used my home assistant i must open first the virtualbox as my experience if i close the virtual box my home assistant is offline is that normal sir

    • @smart_home_australia
      @smart_home_australia  7 місяців тому

      Hi @relaymatik5984 , the Virtual Box itself can be closed, but the window that shows the Home Assistant instance cannot be closed down (thats the one with the Home Assistant Banner page that shows you the IP address). If you close that window then Home Assistant will close down and NOT in a controlled way and might corrupt it.

    Hello, when i enter the IP address from Home Assistant, my browser says unable to connect. Sometimes i get a blue error screen and my laptop restarts. I tried the address with and without but still no luck. What am I doing wrong?

    • @smart_home_australia
      @smart_home_australia  3 місяці тому

      Are you entering the exact address that is shown in the home assistant welcome screen for ipv4?
      That or use homeassistant.local:8123
      Also that obviously your browser is connected to the same network that your home assistant is on.

    I've tried with 5 PCs, various CPUs, types... NO GO.... Time Sync fails on all of them... I've tried VB 6 thru 7... All fails... I've tried HA from v12 back to 6.... No go....

      @smart_home_australia  Місяць тому

      Hi Eric, this is a pretty old video but the principles should be sound, I create VM HA instances all the time.
      When you say its fails, what error does it comes up with? Is it the Time Sync error?

    • @EricPenn1147
      @EricPenn1147 Місяць тому

      @@smart_home_australia Yes, Time sync. It's weird. Can't even get the basics to run so I can load a backup....

    • @smart_home_australia
      @smart_home_australia  Місяць тому

      Now that's very strange, i love those type of issues, I go into detective mode. Although the frustration comes if I don't solve the problem :)
      I believe you are on the right path, its not the HA install or VM thats the issue. Trace it back to the host machine and solve the time sync issue. Since you said these were all new installed of Windows 11 on different machines, then that infers its something upstream of the machine.
      How is your internet coming to you? Might be a firewall issue on your server, malware on your router, might be your internet service provides. I'd do isolation testing for those first. Maybe setup a temporary hot spot on your home and connect to that to time sync first, then do the Virtual Box install then HA.
      Pls keep up informed of progress, I'd love to hear how you resolve the issue.

      @@smart_home_australia Ok, here's the full dirt... And I a very glad for your help BTW. Years ago set up a micro-pc (Kamrui AK1) and have been fine with HA... Dozens and dozens of devices and automations... Then a few weeks ago the Bluetooth device built into the motherboard died. Ha had a real bad time and would crash yelling about Bluetooth timeouts. SO... Until I could regroup I simply disabled Bluetooth and uninstalled the Add-in in HA... Life is OK, but a lot of my sensors are unavailable, which is fine. My house isn't dead.... So I started by buying another PC, something of an upgrade also... I bought another Kamrui, this time with an N100 CPU, but the specs were 4 times faster. Tried to install HA and ALL THIS STARTED. Sync error.. Just installing VB7 and extensions pack, along with HA 12.3 and setting the basic up you find alot on UA-cam it just wont book to HA. SO, I returned that PC and bought another. SAME. Then I tried on my laptop, SAME. Keep in mind that when I try these new one I turn off the WORKING HA, which boots fine. I completely shut it down and power off before I run the new instance. It HAS to e me, or something stupid. Let me hotspot my phone, maybe you have something.... Thank you.
