- I found this super interesting. I've always just assumed the tape just went in to the VCR and settled down and spun. They are a bit more complicated. I thought others would be interested as well.
I've seen hundreds of VHS machines in the last 35 years, but this is the first time ever when the mechanics are on the right side of the VCR. Thank you for showing this.
I'm in my 30's and used one of these pretty much daily as a kid, I never realised how neat they were.

Did you notice that the tape doesnt go around the center of the spinning head, but is at a bit of an angle? its even more complex than it would seem at first glance!

Your mode switche needs cleaning out everything proven dirty mode switches causes problem's like that all the time if you don't know what a mode switch is you can go online and say how clean out a mode switch in a VCR player and every other videos online will come up what you need to which online on your phone
Now do Betamax.
It’s basically the same thing but it uses one arm. And wraps the tape around almost the entire drum.
