I live in the Bay Area and used to frequent a used music store in the 90s (mainly guitar gear) called UniVibe in Berkeley- where Green Day hail from. I was purchasing a 70s Marshall cab from this really cool place and had brought my Les Paul to play through a Marshall head they had at the store to try out the cab. It was almost closing time when I finished the purchase of the cab, and I while didn’t know it at the time, the store manager who asked if I’d be interested in sticking around after he closed up because he had an amp to show me since I liked Marshalls actually turned out to be Green Day’s guitar tech (at the time), Bill Schneider. I couldn’t have prepared myself for what he was going to show me, but he brought out a Marshall Plexi reissue (modded) and let me plug in and play through it with the cab I had just bought. HOLY CRAP!🤘🏻 It was glorious! I immediately wanted to buy it and when I asked Bill if it was for sale, he told me it was BJA’s “backup” Dookie amp that was modded by Bob Bradshaw. Super cool experience that I have never forgotten- even though the store has been gone for quite some time now. Every time I drive by the store location, I think about how great that amp was- I’ve always thought BJA had really good guitar tone. Thanks for the video.🤘🏻
Thanks for being back and yanking out these gems for us, the best amp showcases out here on youtube! However I'm a bit sad the old reference clips don't make an appearence anymore, which makes comparing a bit tougher now.
Thanks for the demonstration! For anyone interested in mod details, that’s exactly channel 2 of CAE 3+SE preamp circuit. I’m not a fan of this take on 2203, but SE mod is another story. If you have Suhr SE or any SE modded Marshall, I am eager to hear your demo of it!
Just curious, are you guys using an attenuator for the high gain stuff, or is there a master volume mod on the back, or are you just ripping at full volume?

Now that's cool. Plugging into a great amp can be a religious experience for sure!
The tone with the Les Paul Junior is fucking perfect, especially when the mix comes in.
Sounds awesome. Who doesn't love a good modded Marshall.
Those who don't dig modded Marshalls simply haven't seen the light. The church of Zen can help with that... our José is up next at the altar.
That F.O.D. tone is ridiculous. Need this amp in my life. Someday! 🤞
That FOD tone is damn near spot on! Sounds great.
Really appreciate runthroughs that are not afraid of mentioning the negatives.

Man, I'm falling in love with blackback speakers! @zenamplification what's the name of the song/band on that rift at 3:42? Great playing 🤘
Yeah great speaker. I think that riff is just some made up on the spot thing.
Great video! Love the side by sides and details in the keynotes. Thanks for making this! Any chance you guys do captures for quad cortex?
Maybe down the track, we're too busy playing loud tube amps to figure out those new-fangled magical digital boxes.
Hi Friends!! Any chance of you making a capture for Tonex and putting it up for sale?
Hope u guys do a video about the circuit details of this amp
