@@kratoleaf7619 Well, the West German film "Dogs, do you want to live forever?" (Hunde, wollt ihr ewig leben?, 1959) and the Soviet film "Soldiers" (Солдаты, 1956) can compete with this 1993 film for the title of "The best film about Stalingrad". Or were you talking about "The Enemy at the Gate"? Well, and "Stalingrad" by Fyodor Bondarchuk, who played Ivan the sniper in "Stalingrad" (1989), is not as stupid as it seems. Especially when compared with the movie "T-34".
the Stalindgrad in 93 with Thomas Kretschmann who has played a German soldier in atleast 5-6 films was the best. T-34 was awesome. The White Tiger was another. Also the film about the female sniper who visited the White House was well done. Russians have been cranking out some quality stuff. They have most of the best tanks for films left over from WW2. I have trouble watching older films with dubbed voices and over-acting.@@Andrey_Gorbatok
@@colmcmillan173 I know. And these stereotypes spoil the impression of him very well at the beginning of the film. Despite the fact that I am one of those Russians who liked this movie. Although every time I watch this movie, I burn from its beginning. Because of its beginning, I think "Stalingrad" (2013) is better. Although there are films that are better than "Stalingrad" (2013). And I am silent that the German films "Stalingrad" (1993) and "Dogs, do you want to live forever?" (Hunde, wollt ihr ewig leben?, 1959) are better than "The Enemy at the Gate". But we must admit that the dilogy "Tired of the sun 2" (Утомленные солнцем 2, 2010-2011) is worse than "The Enemy at the gate". Even "Pearl Harbor" (2001) is better than "Tired of the Sun 2". And at the same time, "Tired of the Sun 1" (Утомленные солнцем 1, 1994) is a good movie that deserved an Oscar. And "Tired of the Sun 2" is a bad art house with a huge budget, which runs for 5.5 hours, and it is divided into two films.
Interesting to see a non Hollywood view of what the will of the Russian People exacted upon German dominance. After Stalingrad the Germans never regained offensive power. It was retreat and defeat all the way back to Berlin.
The Germans did marshal one last offensive at Kursk in the summer of '43, but that was a disaster thanks in part to the obviousness of the target and in part to the valor--and the preparation--of the Red Army.
I recommend TIKs channel, he has Battle of Stalingrad analyzed literally hour for hour 😎 And, yes, Chuikov survived many deadly situations by miracle 😮
And remember: Yuri Ozerov was ahead of George Lucas, Peter Jackson, and David Yates. And he was ahead of them in that he was the first to film a prequel franchise to his original franchise. And yes, if, that his "Stalingrad" is the second prequel to "Liberation". The first was "The Battle of Moscow". And yes, he also had a spin-off to Liberation called Soldiers of Freedom, which was before the prequels. And I don't know if that spin-off will be translated or not. But you should know about it.
@@mgg7756 I've been enjoying this movie since I was a kid. It's one of my favorite movies. And one of the two films that I watched most often as a child. The second was "They fought for the Motherland." Actually, if you read one of my other comments here, you could understand it. And yes, I'm just jokingly explaining that Yuri Ozerov has made many big film projects about WW2 (GPW). And this is such a large-scale work that it was ahead of its time. And although I am one of those who loves the films of Sergei Borndarchuk Sr. more than the films of Yuri Ozerov. By the way, the son of Sergei Borndarchuk Sr. starred in this film, and in 2013 his son made a film with the same name. Anyway, I appreciate what Yuri Ozerov did. 1:07:17 - 1:07:55 Sergei Astakhov from "Stalingrad" (2013) died in much the same way as Ivan from "Stalingrad" (1989). And the curious thing is not that Ivan was played by "Stalingrad" (2013) director Fyodor Bondarchuk. It's that Astakhov was played by his son, Sergei Bondarchuk Jr.
Excellent film love you more than a film.better than to American film in ww2 . Russia give a noble price for the war . great appreciation people Russian long live mother Russia
Thank you for this amazing movie. The key characters of the war are always cast very well in Russian films. One would almost think that was Stalin himself. Indeed it was odd to see Powers Booth. I was like; huh? I read afterwards how this casting decision came about when the Russian sought support from American film makers. It was very interesting to see the focus put upon the "Red Orchestra" resistance and subsequent trials in Germany. In the west, one would be hard pressed to even find a footnote to such events. The "Stauffenberg" plot always getting the attention when it comes to anti Nazi resistance. Wonderful to see a birds eye view of "The Motherland Calls" at the end of the film. There are few memorials to a decisive battle in history that can be compared to this one on Mamayev Kurgan.
Yeah, but even though Powers Booth doesn't match the look of Chuikov, the portrayal matches the character of the man. At leas the way he's presented in memoirs and the like

Amusing to see Powers Boothe playing Chuikov being dubbed into Russian here, as 5 years earlier he played a US Air Force Colonel helping to lead American partisans against a Soviet/Cuban invasion of the USA in Red Dawn (1984).
This is a wonderful movie series , and every time I see it pop up I watch again, Powers Booth was so good and so funny regarding his later roles: so, Miss Joanie Stubbs, what trouble shall we make for these Germans today ?
I'm surprised this film was made in 1989. My initial guess was the Brezhnev era in the 70's. For a Soviet movie of late 1980's, it was not ready for what was to come.
Stalins name will possibly live forever, because he slaughtered 10 million + of his own people. Theres a reason his own staff watched him die on the floor poisoned without lifting a finger to help the madman. Everyone knows what he was. Just another hitler in a different uniform. The bravery of the Russain soldiers is what won "the great patriotic war". Stalins stupidity likely killed as many russain soldiers as germany did. Germanys war on russia was a war of extermination. They killed more civilians than they did soldiers. Make no mistake. The russain soldiers didnt fight for stalin, bolshevism, or communism. They fought for mother Russia and its people.
I'm honestly surprised that this was made in 1989; just based on the film quality, the effects and the music, I would have guessed it was at least 20 years older. I think I've seen some of those T34 'Tigers' in a later film about a KV1 and its crew. One of the awful realities of the battle for Stalingrad was that Paulus surrendered to save his men, but 95% of them died in Russian captivity. Paulus himself stayed in Russia after the war voluntarily, and later moved back to Communist East Germany.
A gentle and simplistic movie which has related the historic battle. It was a great victory against darkness. Russian tenacity is amazing as said the tansport boat old captain. With El Alamein it was the beginning of the end. for ever thank to whom have fallen.

@@Andrey_Gorbatok The enemy at the gate is a collection of silly stereotypes.
I just loved it. Thanks for uploading. ❤❤❤

Good film. Makes me want to read the book again.
i am fascinated by the beauty of these actress, pure and natural.
Ohne US - Hilfe hätte es kein Stalingrad gegeben .
Ohne US - Hilfe wäre das Rußland Stalins 1941 zusammengebrochen und
damit der Krieg zu Ende .
@@lawsonj39 this battle is portrayed well in Soviet Liberation 4-part movie with the same director and cast
There is a saying about stalingrad, kursk and bagration but i kinda forgot what it is. But it inlcudes uppercut , bloody nose
@@mrobocop1666 Isn't that Part 1, The Fire Bulge?
I recommend TIKs channel, he has Battle of Stalingrad analyzed literally hour for hour 😎
And, yes, Chuikov survived many deadly situations by miracle 😮
Grazie! 🙂
Another excellent 2 part movie from the people at Mosfilm . Thank you .
But you should know about it.
wtf are you even saying lol
just enjoy the movie and calm down
@@mgg7756 I've been enjoying this movie since I was a kid.
Even if I don't like his "Battle of Moscow" and "Soldiers of Freedom".
@@Andrey_Gorbatok fair enough, my bad there
Yeah! Imho Russia is probably the most 'underrated' country in the world🥴.
This is epic movies. 👍🏻
I'm surprise to see American actor Powers Boothe played Vasily Chuikov. His role is most likely dubbed, but still interesting to see him in a Russian movie.
I KNEW IT. Damn..................
OMG I thought the actor playing Chuikov looked very familiar but it never dawned on me he could be an American. Thanks for pointing that out.
Yes I noticed that too
the best Stalingrad movie came out a few years after this and still holds up today. The last one in the 10's was too much CGI and reminds you of 300 with the fast then slow motion techniques. Stupid for non-fiction.
great actor.
Wonderful. Thanks a lot 😍😍
Very good film, much better than the US ones.
What a beautiful film stories of WW2 .
They teach children and young people love for the country and life. We saw how they venerated their grandparents who died in the Great Patriotic War. How gorgeous!!!
No recent or even distant past have SUCH GREAT STORY TO TELL their great grand children. They seen it all
1:07:17 - 1:07:55 Sergei Astakhov from "Stalingrad" (2013) died in much the same way as Ivan from "Stalingrad" (1989). And the curious thing is not that Ivan was played by "Stalingrad" (2013) director Fyodor Bondarchuk. It's that Astakhov was played by his son, Sergei Bondarchuk Jr.
That was one hell of a battle in one hell of a war. Let's hope we can wiggle our way past such another.
Gracias.
Very well done, excellent work!!
great movie, thank you for the upload :)
Excellent film love you more than a film.better than to American film in ww2 . Russia give a noble price for the war . great appreciation people Russian long live mother Russia
Forever Rusia.
I super love these corny old Soviet flicks. God bless the people of Russia
It’s not really Soviet it’s a Russian-American co-production. Quincy Jones co-produced.
For those who love old Soviet war films go watch Come and See. It's here on YT and is a fabulous , heartrending movie.
Great Movie!
Loved the movie, hated the cardboard tanks.
At leas the way he's presented in memoirs and the like
In the 1970s German TV broadcast a seven-part TV series about the "Red Orchestra", original title back then: "Die rote Kapelle".
(I hope the translation is correct.)
Second and only 10 minutes late, why is part two out first (Around 4 minutes before.). Anyway, Thank You for this wonderful. film. Cinema was beautiful then.
Amusing to see Powers Boothe playing Chuikov being dubbed into Russian here, as 5 years earlier he played a US Air Force Colonel helping to lead American partisans against a Soviet/Cuban invasion of the USA in Red Dawn (1984).
Thanks Mosfilm for this movie
Absolutely better, than "Enemy at the gates"!!!
excellent movie , mosfilm have got gtreat war movies with subs.
Most excellent film... historical piece on Russian peoples..
impressive production for a great film!

Stalin's name will live forever (much to the chagrin of Western historians) because of Stalingrad.
Probably because of the 20 million murdered in his name as well…..
Except it is called Volgograd now, seems even Russians do not like him anymore.
Stalin is a mass murder, especially of the own people....
I was chatting to a Russian last weekend who loves Stalin. He's more popular than ever. @@leeedsonetwo
Great film
I've never seen a film that portrays both Hitler and Stalin. The guy who played Stalin was 10x as scary as Hitler!
Very interesting movie love from India
I'm honestly surprised that this was made in 1989; just based on the film quality, the effects and the music, I would have guessed it was at least 20 years older. I think I've seen some of those T34 'Tigers' in a later film about a KV1 and its crew.
One of the awful realities of the battle for Stalingrad was that Paulus surrendered to save his men, but 95% of them died in Russian captivity. Paulus himself stayed in Russia after the war voluntarily, and later moved back to Communist East Germany.
I'm pretty sure they used the very same tech, and the same movie props as they did in Liberation.
GRACIAS.
A gentle and simplistic movie which has related the historic battle. It was a great victory against darkness. Russian tenacity is amazing as said the tansport boat old captain.
With El Alamein it was the beginning of the end.
for ever thank to whom have fallen.
Watched from USA The normal masculinity & femininity displayed here are gone from Hollywood Films Hollywood is not capable of making films like this anymore I appreciate the admissions about Stalin etc at the end of the film Salute to the Actors Director & all who worked on the masterpiece May Communism & Nazism never return to Russia & Germany
Feminity is gone in real life to start with. Women got loud, aggressive and obnoxious.
Exceptional
