Temporary Tow Hitch Knot

- This temporary tow hitch is designed to be able to quickly tie a towing hitch that will hold under load but has the benefit of not binding even when subjected to load. To make it more secure, the working end of the rope can be captured onto the standing end by either tape or wire.
I just want to tell you how much I appreciate the fact that you didn't beat around the bush and talk about random shit for 15 minutes. You got right to the point & i thank you for that good sir!
I needed this today
I used a half hitch.
Kinda sad.
My Dad was WW2 NAVY
COSTAIN.
WATCHIN YOU TIE THIS
I REALISED ////IVE SEEN DADDY
USE THIS KNOT BEFORE. BACK YEARS AGO.
THSNK YOU.
As an electrician pulling heavy wire, this knot is INCREDIBLY useful. Thanks a million!!
Just pulled down a tree with this knot on my tow bar and on the lasso round the tree, very handy :)
I need to watch again all your knots videos.
This is really helpful! Greetings ,Sir!
I always felt, knowing your way around a rope is one of the most important skills you can learn.
@@txtoolcrib Yes, Sir! You are completely right!
I used to be a boy scout (long, long time ago) and how embarrassed I feel that without practicing the knots learned you just forget. I remember a few but not the basics 30 from medical help to surviving. As well the morse code and flag language.
I really need to do time to not forget the good basics. Back to basics!
Got to use this knot thanks. I tow a lot of people out in winter.
that was awesome i used a flat head screwdriver to undo my knot when i helped this guy in the dirt. thank you so much
You’re very welcome. Glad you got a chance to use it.
Шикарный узел! спасибо за показ.
Damn it! I lost this video and couldn't figure it out! Great video
I dig the knot videos just as much as the tools. Thanks!
You’re very welcome.
Thanks for your Royal video I really needed to find out how I'm going to tow a vehicle without a tow hitch bar or a flatbed
I like this one. Thanks for sharing!
great videos ben.especially love the knot videos!!!
Thank you.
so much great content. I see you had a good teacher probably your father growing up. you must have listened because you are very knowlegable man. Im sure hes proud of you. hell i never met you and ya make me proud. God Bless the USA
I learned quite a bit from my father, but he wasn’t much of a teacher. More like shut your mouth and pay attention kind of guy. My uncle on the other hand, was almost as good as my father when it came to practical skills, but a very patient teacher. Of course, once he taught you once, you were expected to know it from then on.
@@txtoolcrib brother good for you i wish more parents raised their kids like that this country wouldnt be in the mess it is NOW
@@txtoolcrib thanks for the reply man best wishes to you your channel and family
Thank you very much, the best to you and yours as well.
Really good video, very useful. Thanks from Australia
You’re very welcome.
Thanks bud! Got my Holden Rodeo out in tarniet tonight! Champion
TX what type of rope are you using for the outside demo (orange rope) - polyester?
Great video - what knot or hitch would you use to recover a stuck vehicle off road?
For example I have a “come along” with hooks on both ends. One end is on the truck.
The other end is too short to get to a tree, so I have to use an extension rope.
The come along clip attaches to the extension rope’s eye. The other end of the extension rope you need to tie to a shackle on a tree saver (single line pull).
What knot would you use to attach the rope to the shackle so that it doesn’t loosen when the rope is slack, doesn’t weaken the rope too much, and can easily be removed after?
Zeppelin Loop
Can you do a short series on, what knots to use to secure the extra slack
Nicely demonstrated. Until this video, I had not seen this knot before. Do you prefer this knot over the bowline on a bight?
I'm guessing different uses. Bowline on a bight is a secure double loop and unslipped. This is a slipped knot.
Wow, I can’t keep up with the uploads. (Very informative)
Thanks. I don't get why anyone would thumbs down a video like this. I mean, what the hell?!?
If I’m pulling a car, do I do the same knot to the other car?
have you by any chance tried the Toler Union multi tool. it seems unique . i saw a video on it about a year ago and noticed it ws a pre order type thing i guess to see if demand was good. personally with your knowlege i think you should make your own mutitool, Heck why not id pre order it cause i know it would have great tools on it. You have held and used so many i bet you can take those things apart in your sleep. great content sir
I have seen them, but I’m going to wait for them to come to market before passing any kind of judgement. My initial thought are, they may be trying to do too much, but we’ll see.
How secure is this?
Does this work for all kind of rope material...!
Nice camera work outside
Thank you, I appreciate it.
That is cool! But how does it attach to the tow vehicle?
I would imagine if you have the ball hitch on the back of the truck that you could tie this knot first and then put the loop on the ball and use it to drive forward and pull from the back
Please be careful doing that. A friend of a friend lost his life doing this bc the ball came undone and flew through the windshield. It's been an unlocked fear of mine since.
This is a beautiful knot
I like this one a lot.
@@txtoolcrib Same, I have used it 2 times since this comment, really high quality knot
That’s great to hear. What were you pulling on?
Love the videos and informative! I do have a question though! If the line gets slack, could the first two "knots" toward the truck tow hook come loose? I haven't tried to tie it myself but will! Thanks!
Yes, is the short answer. This not is really meant for off highway use, like pulling someone out that is stuck. For towing someone long distances, you should use a real tow rope.
Does the tow become an embassador
Great video.
Thank you.
Hey Ben I would like to say that you are very skilled with ropes bravo! were you a boy scout ?
No, actually I wasn’t. My dad and uncles taught me about tying most of the knots I know.
@@txtoolcrib I am very happy that a man like exists out there . thank you Ben for teaching us .
Love this informative video
For towing, can't you just use a bowline? What makes this different?
This one is slipped. It’s easier to undo. Bowline is more secure because it won’t get undone even if there is no tension
is this knot as strong as the original rope's rated working load ?
No knot in the world is.
ALL knots are technically nothing more than a controlled and repeatable "tangle"... and ANY "tangle" is a weak point in the line, so @TXToolCrib is 100% correct.
Physics 101.
Lol
The Palomar is pretty close (somewhere in the upper 80% range, but still...)
Hope you're doing good pal didn't see any more videos from you lately hope all is well 👍
I’ll be back soon. I am working on a couple of large contracts right now. Frankly, when I get in I’m just too tired to put anything out. It’s nice to actually have some work again honestly. Been a rough year for everyone.
Well your working and that is the main thing work comes 1st I've been working all over and let me tell you it's not as easy as it was know work no multi tool🤑
That’s very cool, thank you
You bet
That’s cool. Think you will like this.
ua-cam.com/video/m3pNqSl5oAw/v-deo.html
That’s interesting, I hadn’t seen that before.
@@cwo8771 That is really cool, will try it tomorrow
And then what do you do for the other side when you tie off? Any recommendation there?
Bowline with Yosemite finish
Thank you very much!
seems like it could come loose with tows - jerking the rope a lot, many more would work better! 2 half hitches would be better than that
Sweet.
Will 2 loops suffice?
Yes, but the third makes it a bit more secure.
Cheers Mate!
Honestly, why not just a bowline? It's waaaaaay more secure than this one and can be untied relatively easly even after heavy load
Cool.
triple half hitched bellringer for the knot nerds
Not critiquing but isn't that more of a shank knot?
It’s similar, but the sheep shank is captured from both ends instead of consecutive loops. Similar characteristics, different applications.
@@txtoolcrib Okay.. thanks for the heads-up.
Awesome
I like this knot because it is strong in tension, and it will not bind.
Nice
I think that's a sheep shank
Use this knot ONLY to pull your car a short distance of a few meters. DO NOT use this knot on bad terrain over longer distances where the rope gets loose at times while you are towing it. otherwise cool knot.
Saw a video someone towing a car on the highway this way didn’t see where they ended up but I know if they tried to slow down that was for sure gonna slam into them
Wow
It comes in handy.
Дякую !
Sheepshank then
Nice 😊
