Although I have not read a thorough analysis of this Brahms organ work, when I listen to it, I can't help but think that this may be something of a creative or romanticized response to Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor. This piece can sound a little muddy, but the arpeggiated ascents and descents suggest to me a curvaceous and intentionally emotive update of Bach's more square and cerebral chords. This is a challenging piece and I applaud the artist Mr. Beer for making it available for our enjoyment and admiration.
