Ta'Rea Campbell I hope you didn't take our comments to heart in the wrong way ! YOUR VOICE IS A KNOCK OUT ! That last note still gives me chills... ! Great job :)
Ta'Rea Campbell Some people kill me......This woman sang this. YOU DID THAT GIRL..... I think that everyone has a very keen sense of artistry and their ear is fixed to what they heard originally...... Too bad for them. Anyway, i believe that folks are entitled to their opinion, but lets see what they have to offer so that they can be judged as well. Put yourself in the shoes of the one who is on the screen. Well thats my opinion. I dont ever want to hurt anyones feelings. That is not who i am. I just want to say that i love your work T'area Campbell. Always have and i am in your corner rooting for you. Keep Rising
Great song, sung brilliantly. All of you expecting a studio album performance every single show either know nothing about touring or have expectations well beyond the abilities of normal real performers. So you think she could have done better, and probably assume that this is her best effort. These are real people. And if they make mistakes or feel that they didn't deliver, believe me, what you might say is a nothing compared to the introspection and critque they face from themselves. They get tired, are dealing with issues, have worries and fears, just like the rest of us. Just because you are on stage doesn't mean the world goes away..... I have seen this production and think that Ms. Campbell is an exceptional actress and singer, or singer and actress, take you pick. She has it all. I wish her well, far beyond the range of petty knocks.

No offense but everyone is going to be judged ! It's criticism ! Yes she was good but in my opinion..... this wasn't her best , I've heard her really KILL THIS ten times better then this and I wasn't feeling Deloris here at all.Maybe it was an off day, idk. It felt like she was singing it to get through it . Amazing vocals... but Deloris just wasn't there even though that last note was LIFE ! Tbh seeing this on tour... didn't have that feeling when I saw it on Broadway. Personally the second national tour was better. JUST MY OPINION !
@@davone.lampley8579 but to be honest, criticisms should be constructive and to tear someone down when you have no idea what was going on in that moment is boo hoo. My opinion
Touring and singing in a big barn of a theater can certainly take a couple of performances to work out sound etc. as not enough time is ever given to rehearsal runs on the road. This song is early in the show also which can also mean the actors are still settling in to the auditorium etc. I saw this in Orange County and I can assure you that Ta'Rea Campbell was a total star and vocal knockout.
Seems like, post-covid, these "understudy saved the show and got fandom hatred for not being as 'good as...'" posts have stopped. That's nice to see. I dunno what the issue here is. She's absolutely fine. And let's take a moment (10 years or so later) for this queen who played a role that wasn't hers, tried what she could to make it hers, and hit the shit out of that last note (key change or not).
I've been hearing shut up and sit down since first grade, at St. Mary's. 12 Whole years of those nasty old nuns saying what I can't be. The producers, promoters, club owners....Im too this, Im too that, Im too much Im not right. Im too loud too demanding too wrong too not right. Well too bad if they think I should stay out of sight. Honey open your eyes, let me show you the light. Goodbye Curtis Jackson, I dont need your club, I dont need your blue fur, and I dont need you. Look at my style, could it be more glam? Look at my look, can you say 'hot damn!'? Look and at once you know what I am, Me, I'm fabulous baby! Look at my moves, don't they blow your mind? Drama and talent and sex combined. Hell, you can tell even if you're blind. See, I'm fabulous baby, I'm meant to be where the spotlight shines, Born to be on display. Built to be dressed to the ninety nines, And ready to stand and say! Look at me, can't you see? I'm fabulous baby. Look right here, ain't it clear? Where I'm heading to. And look at the time honey, I can't stay. Look while you can 'cause I'm on my way. Me, I'm fabulous baby. I've got fabulous things to do. (Your so fabulous baby) So joke all you want, go ahead and laugh. One day you'll beg for my autograph. Oh I'm fabulous baby! (so damn fabulous baby) Can't you see me lit up on a stage as the cameras adore me? Can't you see me out walking red carpets, or doing TV? Can't you see all the millions of fans screaming desperately for me? I'm a diva, a godess, a star on the brink. A house-rocking vision, in hot shocking pink! A party, a riot, the whole kitchen sink! It's time for the world to find out, don't you think yeah! look at me can't you see?Yes Im fabulous baby! Feast your eyes, can't disguise, My star quality! So laugh all you want, I won't be denied! What I have got is too hot to hide. I am fabulous baby, So damn fabulous baby. I am fabulous Wait and see!

I love how they chose a different key for this song! I love the original key but this is a great key too!
Seems like they adjusted it depending on the Lead's tessitura.
definitely the best performer vocally
amazing so glad i saw the tour brilliant!
Yes! Love her, acting, voice, persona! You go girl. Who is that? 🥰

I’m still a bit new to the musical theatre scene so can you explain what a big barn is?

that theatre must be a BARN so echo-ee terrible! and they charge top dollar!
Can you explain what a “BARN” is in theatre terms?
No-one is better than Cynthia Erivo.
