    Hello my name is Lonnie and My wife is Connie.
    Here at Far North Bushcraft And Survival you will learn about many long forgotten tricks and tips of the old time woodsmen. Not only will you learn about bushcraft / woodcraft but you will learn many things that will help you to survive in less than ideal "survival" situations as well. Come along and sit with me by the campfire as I delve into these subjects in a way that you can easily learn to then do yourself.
    I will show you how to make shelters, gather food, use wild medicines as well as start fires with or without matches, lighters, ferro rods, etc

    This man is like a working man's Mors Kohanski. He gets down in the dirt and shows you how to make fire from sticks and rocks and plant fibres. Absolutely attuned with the environment he's in. Practical ideas that could make a huge difference if a person were to end up in a survival situation. Even something as simple as how to get a frozen lighter to work if you were wet and going into hypothermia. That's real world and could actually save someone's life

    When your Bic doesn't work, grab your Zippo. Actually, I've had wet lighters here on the farm. The first thing I do is blow hard on it to blow the water out and it usually works. I've never had one fail to light because of the cold, but your mouth is a good idea.

      @@cephasmartin8593 I have had lighters fail because of cold. What i have done in the past because used to be smoker so i used them ton was just to place the lighter on my palms, and rub them together creating friction, and heat. Or i just if i wasnt on rush stuffed them close to the body inside the inner layers of my clothes. I live in Finland, and we have about -20 or -30 celsius on cold winter day in part of Finland i live. Different lighter brands use different gasses, and it depends on the gas when they stop working on temp.

    I got a trick! If your lighter has no fuel, slowly thumb the spark wheel while catching the ground off flinty bits on a leaf or a piece of paper. Turn the wheel just enough to grind off dust without sparking. Now fold the leaf or paper and gather the dust in a tight line. Ignite the line with lighter sparks from a more aggressive turn and the leaf or paper with ignite.

      Did you get a drone Lonnie? Those leaves are turning fast. Be white real soon. So crazy after our super hot summer. Those clippers are also interchangeable...carry a couple and have good chances of being able to swap out for one working component. I like to keep a small empty soda bottle or gatorade bottle for small items i really want to keep dry--less fragile then ziplock, though admittedly are harder to pocket.

    Luckily for me, the wild and lonely land of south east london rarely sees me in a survival situation, let a lone a cold one at that. However, I am nothing if not prepared plus, you never know, i could be working up town, a big disaster happened and I could need to get back home which is a long long long walk and may need to stop for the night and have a fire. So I have 1 lighter just knocking about, I have one lighter in a protective case among other things and then i have a third waterproof, liquid fuel lighter on my keys which can also act as just a spark maker.

    There was (is) a good reason the Apollo and Shuttle programs used "redundant systems" in their planning. They have "back-ups" to their "back-ups"!! It isn't "cheating", it's Insurance! (LOL) Thanks for the very practical tip, sir. Keeping all fire starting materials in a watertight container is spot-on advice. Very much appreciated! God Bless

    • @doug112244
      @doug112244 4 роки тому

      The aircraft industry has settled on double redundancy as the balance between not enough and creating too much weight and costs with too much. I think fire lighting is important enough and light that you can carry more than three ways to light a fire. In the winter I usually carry lighter and matches even if I'm within sight of the house. You never know if you are going to fall and get hurt when no one is around.

    Useful knowledge even if one lives in urban environment. Your car can crash in the middle of nothing, a plane can "land" on the top of a mountain where the cellphones have no GSM signal.
    Help may arrive several hours later so these tricks in cold and/or bad weather can save lives.

    Very good tips. I maintain lighters in bug out gear, etc. Good and realistic "what if" scenarios.

    Good learn. I have also just rolled the wheel a few times blowing in the area to help disturb the water as I roll then do the tap thing you just did. And it usually will strike pretty quick. And the baggy with the extra socks rolled with lighter. Head start to a warm sock and lighter
