We got a little bit of everything, and yes, we, too had a warehouse full of weed. I'm in Florida, and here, the police departments can keep guns for department use, but anything not suitable for that must be turned over to the sheriff's office for disposal. Ours is a blue county in a red state, so our sheriff destroyed all the guns turned over. Controversial opinion: I don't think the Baby Browning is the best .25. In my experience you have to be very cognizant of your grip, lest your hand ride too high and it gets bit by the slide. For that reason I think the Colt Jr / Astra Cub is preferable. I've had occasion to shoot both. And in my opinion the feel of the Colt Jr was superior. I was more accurate with it, I was more confident with it, and I found it to be more fun. The Baby Browning is indeed significantly smaller, but that small size leads to grip issues and greater skill necessary for accuracy. If Mr Serbu ever invents the .25 Super Carry I think he should pair it with a modernized improved Colt Jr.

I recently bought a Rossi 92 44mag at a police auction. In my country, most of the guns sold at auction are handed over to the police by widows or children. It is not easy to get a gun as an inheritance, because getting a gun license is difficult these days. The police have an accurate register of weapons. The starting price is €50 and still half of the weapons go to melting. Most of the weapons that go to the melting are mosin and other ww 1-2 rifles or old shotguns. I thought about saving some of the weapons from being melted down, but unfortunately the licensing policy didn't allow that.
Is there a law that specifically prevents pistol manufacturers from only serializing the slide? I always thought that would make more sense in the age of polymer...
Why would they not want you to take a barrel with a serial number, but identical aftermarket barrel without one is cool? 🧐 Could the answer be PR, that when these kits are inevitably given new life, they don’t want their department implicated when they go through the law enforcement mill again? Curious. 🤔
@circularfile68 It's not a law (well, not here in Florida); I think it's just policy that varies with the police department. And like a lot of policies, it's probably mostly driven by liability.

Does a judge or jury understand that the particular part isn't important and so it's all fine? Stupid idea to trade in any gun parts that have any numbers obliterated, controlled part or not.
They may not be the brightest bulbs in the box when it comes to guns (hence writing up a C96 as an unknown single shot), but they're going to notice when they don't get any parts back from a gun.
