    In Europe this model allows you to mount the VHF elements in vertical position for DAB reception (digital radio on VHF Channels 5 to 12). In Europe digital radio is vertically transmitted while digital television DVB-T2 is transmitted both horizontal and vertical. Vertical polarization is mostly for portable devices. The UHF reflector is only horizontal. So you get both Digital TV on UHF band and Digital Radio on VHF band. I also recommend this model for those who live in rural areas.

    Honestly admittedly being honest about not knowing if this company made good products is a sign of growth! Testing is key! And knowledge of honest results is what we are seeking!

    I absolutely Love my Televes antenna. Tried many popular outdoor antennas before getting getting mine and it's the best I have ever had. The build quality is the best I have ever seen. I read people saying stuff about the plastic components, and I get that concern, But... I can tell you that after more than five years above my roof, there is no damage or erosion to any of the components and it has survived multiple hurricanes. Channel stability is better than any other antenna I have used too. For the record, I am using the DAT BOSS MIX LR model, which is a bit bigger.

    Besides being well built antennas, lots of Televes antennas have built in LTE filters. They are also very unique looking and probably a great attention getter to start the ‘cutting the cord’ conversation with the neighbours! Great video, Tyler!👍

    Tyler, we need a benchmark when comparing signal strengths that would include one of your top performing antenna, not just the last two. That would give us a better idea of how well the one you're reviewing really is.

    • @AntennaMan
      @AntennaMan  4 роки тому

      The "top 2" really depends on the specific situation. I include the results of the last two models. I dont even have to do that. If someone wants to see which model is the best for whether it be a high VHF, low UHF, or upper UHF channel they are free to watch the other videos or inquire about a custom recommendation from me

    • @diycarhome9151
      @diycarhome9151 3 роки тому +5

      I agree. Once you find the most top performing antenna. In the UHF or VHF Hi Group could you put it to the extreme right. With a gold or red box around those numbers. Then do the other two recent checks to the left. So we know the all time leader.
      Actually the whole Antenna Testing Process is getting complicated.
      Would have to separate it into under 0 to 50 miles antennas, 0 to 70 miles and 70 miles and beyond.

    Thanks. Glad you reviewed this antenna. I have tried two other antenna's with so so results. I pick up strong signals from NYC (65 mi) and also pick up good signals from Hartford and New Haven CT. which is about 180 deg in the other direction. Love this antenna.

      I did install a rotor on the mast so I could move it to NY or Hartford. But after I got the strongest signal from NY I also got a good reception from Hartford/New Haven. NYC is about 65 mi from me. Hartford is about 40 miles 180 deg opposite direction.

    Televes could be one of the most understated products on the market and not just for antennas. The quality of the product is outstanding from the construction materials, to the design, to the easy to follow instructions. Most importantly, these antennas rekindle America’s love for the way TV used to be…FREE! As a recent cord cutter who was finally fed up with overpaying the cable company for what is available for free OTA, I was astounded how easy and enjoyable the transition from cable to an OTA antenna was. Get a Televes antenna now and you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it sooner. It’s that amazing!

    YESSS! Finally found it. I watch Drone reviews of all kinds and tests, and in a lot of European, England videos, I've seen this antenna on masts and roof tops. I always wondered what it was and who makes it. Looks like a popular antenna and works and priced right to be so many in use over there. Great review as usual.

    I temporarily installed a Televes Datboss Mix LR UHF/HiVHF antenna in the attic of my summer cottage on Matinicus Island Maine 04851. It is aimed out a window toward the Portland Maine towers at about 90 miles. I get some drop outs of signal but on the whole, I get more signal than I have ever done. I am pleased with this antenna. I will be raising the antenna outside later and adjusting the length of the RG 6 solid core quad shield cable for further efficiency. I am also place shifting the signal via a Sling AirTV2 using a very fast broadband via DSL. My rating on this antenna : two thumbs up.

    Hi Tyler. About 2 years ago Dish Network/Sling had a promotion for $99 you received a Televes Diginova Boss antenna and installation. I took advantage of it and the antenna works great. I am in the suburbs in Chicago and this one picked up CBS which is a tough channel for me to pick up. I was able to pick up a 5 port amplifier and run it to multiple TVs with clear pictures. Very satisfied.

    Great job as usual Tyler the Antenna man. Really appreciate the reviews.
    I would think OTA has a fundamental appeal to broadcasters and networks over that of cable by being "free". With an economic down turn, people are more likely to eliminate the unnecessary cost of cable and still get at least some of the same broadcasts with an Antenna.

    Beautiful timing. "Televés is a very large antenna company...".
    At the same time, a huge yellow parabolic antenna pops up on the screen 😀
    My father-in-law got a new Televes antenna, installed by technicians, no charge. It is a high-V/UHF antenna, which means he can't watch one of the local channels in his area.
    His satellite provider did this, no doubt, because it means the networks can't cut him off during retransmission conflicts.

    I live in Finland, Europe but I'm Swedish speaking, so last summer I bought the biggest Televes UHF antenna and now I can watch Swedish television with perfect picture quality, even the HD channels. It's about 75 miles to the Swedish transmitter. Televes DAT Boss LR is the model I use together with their power supply unit to get the most out of this great antenna. Here you can read more about their products www.televes.com
    I'm so happy that even the Antenna Man tried this antenna. One question though, did you test it together with the power supply unit? The range will increase when it's connected to the power supply unit, but it works also without power.

    Last Summer, we installed several Televes DATBOSS antennas in an apartment complex 25mi north of Boston. It's in a valley very close to sea level, and there are only a couple channels broadcasting in VHF in our area, so we used the compact UHF-only model. Nevertheless, they still pick up a dozen transmitters (~50 channels), two of which are in Providence RI, 67mi away. We installed a DATBOSS LR (larger model, 83" long) on one building for comparison, but it didn't pick up any new stations over the smaller antenna; just slightly better signal on the existing ones.

    So you finally dit it Tyler! You decided to test a Televes antenna and you were not dissapointed. I told you so. I have been using them for the last five years and I have no complaints whatsoever in terms of quality and performance.
    The Televes Ellipse Mix (VHF/UHF) version is for the US market. It is not sold in Europe since they only use UHF there. Regarding its overall size I understand it was designed to comply with the FCC OTARD Rule.
    By the way, who did you purchase it from? I understand Solid Signal does not carry it yet. Also, was this test conducted with the antenna on passive or active mode?

If you're putting one up for yourself or making your living putting up antenna the build quality is better than all the others out there. As far as the Televes Ellipse I've put up 50+ of them the performance is great and the assembly time is next to nothing. They're just plain awesome! :)

    I just replaced my 30 year old Radio Shack antenna with the Televes Ellipse Mix antenna . The picture quality improved greatly with the Televes antenna and I was able to pick up 4 additional channels I did not have before. The only problem I had was trying to find where to buy the antenna. Both Lowes and Home Depot carried it but they were out and had a waiting list for them. I tried several other places that carried antennas but they didn't carry the brand. I finally found an electronics warehouse in Pennsylvania that had 4 in stock so I purchase from them. I wonder if your great review caused a run on this model.

    Hi Tyler,
    I appreciate your last UA-cam cast on the Televes Ellipse Max Antenna.
    First I would like to tell you that I am a serious cord cutter when it comes to my over the air TV.
    I live in the Bflo NY area (Clarence) and I've had a very difficult time to obtain my local stations, ABC, CBS, and CW.
    I've combined 2 DB8's still poor signal strength, I tried a ClearStream 4v another waste.
    So I viewed your cast on the Televes Ellipse Max. I said what do I have to loose?
    I purchased 2 Televes Ellipse Yagi Omni-Directional Outdoor Antennas, a Televes TV Antenna Pre-Amplifier Combiner and a tripod Mast.
    I get max signal in a heavenly wooden area on all 41 channels, incredible!
    Thanks for the review.
    I strongly suggest the Televes Ellipse Max Antenna.

    Thanks for this, it was one of my most wanted reviews, would like to seen it compared to the better Antennas Direct models but from what I gather from this it's a bit of a disappointment, I thought the unique design might have garnered better results on the UHF band, as is I still think the db series are about as good as it gets for UHF & I wouldn't bother with this. Also there are clones of this sold by Stellar Labs that seem to be a solid build at a lower price if you are game.

    Antennas are one of the few electronic items where import doesn't play a big role. For me here in Germany your channel is interesting, because practically none of the American companies are known here. The market is dominated by German brands, (and of course cheap crap from China), so it's interesting for me to compare it with antennas available elsewhere. I'm interested in antennas for picking up weak signals from far away stations, and it seems there is a lot more available in the USA, as most people here switched to satellite TV, cable and IPTV.

    Great timing on this video. I have been having occasional, but annoying problems with a VHF station in my area so subscribed to UA-cam TV for it and their awesome "DVR" service. I decided to go ahead and get the Televes and try it in my attic in place of the GE Pro I've been using so did it a few days ago and then today Google told us UA-cam TV is going up to $65/month!!! Yikes! So far the Televes is working great! So thank you. I'll go back to another service that I won't mention as don't want to get into a discussion about which is best as there is no "best" for everyone, but it won't cost near $65/month. Now for a question. Do you do your signal tests with a preamp turned on or out of the picture? I'm just curious as some antennas,, like the Televes don't make it very easy to do it without the preamp. In fact, I'd like to see you do a video on how best to compare before/after signals.

      Televes antennas are really designed to be used with the TForce system turned on at all times. It's not a typical pre-amp, and it will not overdrive the system in any case.

    Great review! Some of the European antenna companies are very good. I use a FM Yagi I bought from Germany. It is excellent. I wonder how the Televes antenna would compare to the Antenna Direct 91XG on UHF?

    • @robertogalvez3865
      @robertogalvez3865 4 роки тому

      The 91XG is a large, high gain passive antenna. The Televes Ellipse works in two modes: pasive (amplifier OFF) and active (ON). I am sure the 91XG performs better than the Ellipse in passive mode (apples to apples) since it is larger and has more elements; however, it is too long for most folks.

    • @jurysdoyler
      @jurysdoyler 4 роки тому +1

      @@robertogalvez3865 The 91XG is a UHF only large yagi, not really comparable to the Ellipse as it is at least twice the size, probably more. The specs for raw gain are 17dBi max gain in the UHF band, which makes it comparable in passive gain to the Televes DAT LR in passive mode (this one is actually closer to 18dBi). The DAT LR is substantially smaller in size than the 91XG, and also substantially more rugged. Furthermore, it includes a TForce pre-amp as all the DAT series. The DAT LR also comes in versions with High VHF + UHF, and Low VHF + High VHF + UHF
