    I just read the comment below on here from Ed Peters about the library burning down. A very good friend of mine was in a photo unit in chain of islands from New Guinea to Guam and the Philipines- We talked alot about those days and now that he has passed another library of valuable information is gone. Congratulations Billings Gazette for doing this and especially to Daryl Urlich ( sorry about slaughtering your name). God bless all our Vets and all those we honor in our hearts that never made it home!

    I had friends who lived in LaGrande and spent a lot of time there in the 70's, hiked up at Gun sight mountain and went skiing at Anthony lake...

    I was in SERE school in Coronado CA. in 69. During a booring class half of us were dozing off. The Lt JG in front of the podium pulled out a 45 and shot 3 blank rounds in the air. We all stayed awake for all the booring classes.

    I was with NSA Da Nang 69-70. My base at Camp Tien Sha had old French style barracks and there were about 8 new barracks that were 2 story built by the Sea Bee's. I was in the old French style barracks....the Sea Bee barracks were much nicer. I went back in 2017 and found the main gate to CTS.....its now a Vietnamese Naval base and we could not get near the main gate. There is now a 4 lane hiway in front of the main gate.

    Seabees sounds interesting, but Vietnam not so much because of WAR, heat, humidity, and snakes. Voices puts REAL character to that war. Thanks.

      No problems with snakes very much now, it's the idiots on the roads you have to worry about, ( and the smoke away from the big cities ).

    When it came to Vietnam...you didn't have to be a genius to figure what it was all about. I don't know why Vietnam was some kind of "revelation" to him.

    • @caitthegreat3900

      Because he was a teen when he was drafted, how much did you know about war when you were a teen? You are entitled to your opinion but he is also entitled to his and this was an interview asking HIS perspective. Have a wonderful day!

    • @topgeardel
      @topgeardel 3 роки тому +2

      @@caitthegreat3900 Thanks for the "wonderful day" ! But some things need to be said. Vietnam effected my young teen life between 16-18. The Draft was very active and I ended up low on the beloved Lottery System. I studied that war every day for years, taking in everything written about it in magazines, papers, TV news and documentaries. I also had first hand experience from some veterans. I resisted the Draft and Vietnam and knew exactly what I was doing. It wasn't rocket science at 18. But no one wants to know what it was like to be a patriot and resist your Government...WHEN IT IS WRONG. We do like our "war stories"...don't we.
      You have a productive day as well !

      Also I would like to add that he stated that the war was unnecessary, he was just a kid from Oregon that didn’t feel he had a choice in the matter so he did what he had to do.

    • @topgeardel
      @topgeardel 3 роки тому +2

      @@caitthegreat3900 That's why I comment on these videos. Vietnam veterans like to portray a lot of "poor me" and "I did my duty and did what I had to do" Those are falsehoods. They feed that BS to the younger generations...like yourself. Love your grandad all you want...but his assertion that he had "no choice" was a false conclusion on his part. Please get real. The man said the war was "unnecessary"....yet he was a sheep and "did what he had to do". He put his life at risk for nothing. If he had lost his life in that "unnecessary" war in Vietnam....would you be alive?
      I was just a kid too. I lived those years as well.

    The ABCs of Salvation, or how to be right with God, and know you're going to Heaven:
    A-dmit that you're a sinner, and need a Savior.
    As it is written: There is none righteous, no, not one. Romans 3:10
    For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23
    B-elieve that Jesus Christ died paying the penalty for your sins, and rose from the grave.
    He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross. 1 Peter 2:24
    For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures... 1 Corinthians 15:3-4
    C-all on the Lord Jesus Christ to save you, and trust only in Him for your salvation.
    If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9
    For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Romans 10:13
    The moment you "believe," or, put your trust in what Jesus has done for you, God saves you and your eternal destiny in Heaven is assured. You go from spiritual death to eternal life the moment you believe.
    Jesus said it this way: Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life. John 5:24😀
