Timur - Epic Music

- Music and vocals by Farya Faraji. Timur, also known as Tamerlane or Timur the Lame, was a Turco-Mongol conqueror of the 14th century who built the Timurid Empire; a culturally Persianate Turco-Mongol state that ruled more or less over the region of Greater Iran. Timur saw himself as the heir to Genghis Khan, and sought to emulate him in that regard; in many ways reproducing his deeds as a great conqueror, as well as the brutality of his methods, killing millions in incredibly destructive conquests. Perhaps the most salient feature of his empire was its dual Turco-Mongol and Persian identity; like the Seljuks centuries before, they were a steppes people with Turkic roots who assimilated into the Persianate world of the area, using the Persian language as the official means of communication for their arts, literature and governance whilst retaining their Turkic (and in the case of the Timurids, also Mongolic) roots when it came to their dynastic identity. His rule saw the rise of the Timurid Renaissance, a revival of arts, literature and sciences in the Islamic world, and saw some great achievements in those fields, as well as in architecture, as evidenced by some of the mosques still seen today in Uzbekistan.
Given the rich cultural background of the subject, I decided to create a synthesis of Iranian, Central Asian and Mongolian music. The instruments are the Central Asian dombra, the Mongolian morin khuur, the Iranian tanbour, the ney, santour, kemencheh and tombak drums. The melody uses the Iranian Shur mode, as well as the Kurdi maqam, called Phrygian in Western music theory, often heard in Central Asia. A major model for this music was that of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, which show some of the highest degree of Turkic and Iranian musical synthesis. The sung languages are Chagatay and Persian; Chagatay being the Turkic language spoken in the area. The Chagatay lyrics are taken from the Karsakpay inscription, an inscription carved in stone on April 28, 1391 by Timur, and the Persian lyrics are from the Zafarnameh, a Persian epic written by Hatefi in the 15th century, which recounts the life and deeds of Timur in a style imitating the Shahnameh, the Iranian epic of kings written by Ferdowsi which would serve as a model of high literature and kingship for most Persianate states such as the Seljuks and the Timurids.
Chagatay Turkic lyrics:
Yettı yuz yıl toqsan üçintä qoy yaznıŋ ara ay
Turannıŋ sultānı Timurbäg üç yuz miŋ çärig bilä
Bu yergä yetip bälgü bolzun tep bu obanı qopardı
Täŋri nısbat bergäy inşallah!
Täŋri ul kişikä rahmat qılğay bizni duā bıla yād qılğay!
Summer seven hundred and ninety-three, in the middle spring month of the year of the sheep,
Sultan of Turan Timur-Bey went up with three hundred thousand troops,
Reaching the area, he built this mound to have been a memorial.
God willing, the Lord would execute justice!
The Lord will have mercy to the people of the country! Yes, they will remember us with prayer!
Persian lyrics:
Vagar ātashe ghahr-ash afrookhti,
Be yek shoğle zān keshfari sookhti,
Be kooh ar (agar) ze kin sāye andākhti,
Cho yakh pishe khorshid bog dākhti!
Dam az kine oo, kas be ālam nazad,
Vagar zad, de gar dar jahān dam nazad,
If you did light the fire of his wrath,
With that one ember, you burned an entire country,
If you dared cast your shadow upon that high mountain,
Like the sun, he would melt down your mountain of ice,
If any dared tempt his anger by speaking ill of him,
Then that one would cease to exist in this world.

I am Hazara from Afghanistan and love your work. We are believed to be Turco-Mongol people who gradually mixed with local iranic populations, so that's why so many different hazara tribes can trace their lineage to different people and founding ancestors. What has always been mind blowing for me is how our dialect of Farsi Hazaragi has alot of turkic and mongol loan words and just how it kind of fused with the local farsi dialect and became our language. I know Chagatai turkic is related to uzbek and uyghur languages, but it's just fascinating to know how many generations ago my people did not even speak farsi, but rather either monoglian or a turkic language depending on the tribe you're from. I am talking alot but just fascinating to witness the synthesis of culture and music. I never knew I could relate to this kind of music. Thanks you so much for the wonderful music you share. I will always be a huge fan of your work.
Turco-Mongolic and Iranian musical styles and instruments play so well together. I really love and respect the way you blend cultural influences together in writing your music. ♡
Turcomongol music came in contact with Central Asian/Iranic music at least since 100 AD, if not 8000 BC (Skythian invasion of Siberia). The biggest fusion with Persian music probably happened with the Seljuk empire after 1000s AD, where Turks migrated with Persians together into Anatolia, which probably formed modern Turkish music in synergy with Byzantine music.
@@brainblox5629 modern Turkish music is no where near byzantine music
@@CoksadebirTurk2 maybe you should share what you think Byzantine music is like, first
We are just call it a central Asian traditional music.
@@brainblox5629 The Seljuk Turks did not come to Anatolia with the Persians. Anatolia was open only to the migration of Turkic tribes. So we didn't bring the Persians with us.

Timur spent his life leading a nearly constant military campaign. The nomadic tactics of mobility and surprise were his major weapons of attack. May God make your place paradise, great ancestor of Uzbeks. Greetings to all Turkic peoples who are the builders and owners of great countries. Great music, thank you for your creativity. No matter what anyone says about the great Amir Temur today, he is the ancestor of today's Uzbeks. The country where he was born is now Uzbekistan, the Barlos tribe, where he was born, is one of the largest Uzbek tribes in the Uzbeks, and the Chigatoi language he spoke is the basis of the modern Uzbek language. Regardless of what anyone says, he is the rightful ancestor of today's Uzbeks.
brother the tribe of barlas was not Uzbek in any sense. Even Uzbeks were enemies of Timurids. There was a power struggle between Safavids Timurids and Uzbeks. Most of the Timurids came here in India and been living here for ages in North India are called mughals by local population.

@@danielluther5464 They were never called mughals. They were Chagatai. Timur’s main goal of conquering was to expand the Chagatai Ulus.
@@danielluther5464 Yes bro you are thinking true.
But when Uzbek khanate conquered Temurids, turkic people from the north(citizens of Uzbek khanate) called themselves with their king O'zbek(Uzbek) than local turkic people in in the lands of Temurids started to call themselves Uzbek instead of mongol king's name Chagatai because their language and blood were the same. Turkic people from the north called pure uzbek but local people were called just uzbek because them were mixed iranian people (a bit mongol also). Even until 1980s we used pure Uzbek to non mixed turkic people

My new favorite song farya! Absolute masterpiece here 👏.
Love this channel especially considering I’m a huge history buff. Thank you for creating this music 🔥
Whoah. That was amazing!
''If any dared tempt his anger by speaking ill of him,
Then that one would cease to exist in this world.''
Damn can really any person speak ill of him when he was the strongest of his time.
Other than saying he was a gimp or mean/cruel but I'm guessing few were stupid or ballsy enough to do it.
i adored at the beginning, it was so strong entering and continuation and also persian lyrics was just amazing. When he said "...te:p bu obanı qopardı" i just felt this vibe deeply.
Translation from Uzbek:
Yetti yuz yil toqsan uchida qoy yaznıng ara ay
Turanning sultani Temurbeg uch yuz ming charig bilan
Bu yerga yetip balgu bolzun tep bu obani qoʻpardi
Tangri nisbat bergay inshalla
Tangri ul kishiga rahmat qılğay bizni dua bilan yad qilğay
English:
Summer seven hundred and ninety-three, in the middle spring month of the year of the sheep
Sultan of Turan Timur-Bey went up with three hundred thousand troops
reaching the area, he built this mound to have been a memorial.
God willing, the Lord would execute justice!
The Lord will have mercy to the people of the country! Yes, they will remember us with prayer!
Translation to Turkish:
Yedi yüz doksan üç yılında , koyun yazının ara ayında
Turanın sultanı Temürbey üç yüz bin çeri ilen
Bu yere yetip belge(anıt) olsun deyip bu obayı kurdu
Tanrı nispet vere inşallah
Tanrı o kişiye rahmet kıla(ede) , bizi dua ilen yad kıla(ede)
Timur Khan was one of the greatest leader on the world 🇹🇷💙🇺🇿
He was Mongol !!!
@@P_M91 He was Turkic leader, and he is one of the first Turanists.
@@Demirorda no!
@@P_M91 stfu slave. Look his army. Look his people. Mongols dont have population anytime.
@@kursatozturk4023 Open a book, Timur was of Mongolian origin. Timur came from the Mongolian nomadic tribe of the Barlas, who migrated to Transoxania in the 13th century.
In old Turkic Khagantes the Khagans the foreshadow of Tengri rules the eastern part of the big empire called Khaganate while Yabgus the younger siblings of Khagan ruled the western part of the Khaganate. So this makes no wonder why Timur was able to defeat Ottoman Turks. Bayezit The Thunderbolt literally soloed 20 states in europe in crusade of Nicopolis and when europe saw the bigger fish they put Timurids flag on castles. Bayezit was a monster but Timur was on another level however Bayezit could have won if anatolian beylik states didnt join to Timur's side as he was initially was going to win the war of Ankara. Timur removed arabic alphabeth and established Uighur alphabeth for the empires writings. He was turco-mongol but culturally Turkic. He spoke Turkic and was a nationalist which his famous quote is ''Live to glorify Turkic nation, break the hand that raises a sword against Turks'' he was the strongest wolf of the steppes. He shaked the entire world with his expeditions from moscow to western anatolia to egypt to mesopotamia to iran to india finally he was going to china but he died sadly he didnt even saw europe as worthy to conquer. He defeated other Turkic states like Memluks and Golden Horde as well truly the final boss for the Turks.
On the other hand this Fool literally Weakened Turkic Muslim Empires and States like the Golden Horde so Badly that They were literally Easy Pickings for the Russians.
Live to glorify Turkic nation, break the hand that raises a sword against Turks. - Emir Timur

As quoted "Epic Music" it is an Epic Music 😍🇺🇿💪
The last time I got to a Video so fast, was two days ago when a comedian dropped a short video... yes I spend too much time on UA-cam.
However, I will admit, I was just thinking about listening to your music again, so good serendipity.
Hazara Turk from Afghanistan! We need another Timur to save us from the Afghans.

I'm working on a book of military leaders who never lost a battle they led. Tamerlane is one of them, from what I know thus far. Unfortunately, I have yet to get to him (still on the first). But when I get to Tamerlane, I will revisit this magnificent tribute to a great and terrible badass of History.

Great song sir Farya!! This reminds me of the story of the Embassy of Tamorlán. A diplomatic mission sent in 1403 by King Henry III of the kingdom of Castile to Samarkand with the aim of seeking allies against the Ottomans. It could be an idea for future songs.
Although it will probably be a long time for that.😅
I remember that I've asked if you are going to make a Chagatai song months ago. I couldn't explain how excited I was when I first saw this video!
Splendid Synthesis, in the true sense of the word, perhaps your best one yet!
Farya Faraji i been listening to your songs for a long time and i really enjoy them especially the iranian ones however, at the same time I also enjoy some of your Greek, Roman and Turkic music that you produce I was wondering if you will be doing a song or a tribute about Nadir Shah you’ll be greatly appreciated as an Iranian.
Thank you so much. Keep up the great work.
Can you make a song on *Rustam Farrokhzad Ispahbudhan* 👀👀

The Emperor of Elephants. Great work Farya!
Listening to this on repeat!
Farya doesn't miss any time that's perfect.
Once again, great work! I am planning to visit Iran and Mongolia at some point and experience folk songs and local music. As an archaeology student, these are the things that is interesting. The daily life- activites made by ordinary people. Dont get me wrong, its interesting reading about the several dynasties and empires and such. But music is something that has rly connected people more with the past (as with physical objects too ofc). Looking forward to learn more about different music instruments and songs from you Farya. Hopefully someday I can find a viking instrument in one of our archaeological sites in Norway;)
