Totem Warrior could also be reflavored as quasi-Druids in a way that when they enter rage, they actually Wild Shape, but their Wild Shapes are incomplete so they only partially take on animal characteristics. Example: Bear 3 Wild Shapes your skin into thic leathery skin and fur

I’ve played a kalashtar bear totem barbarian where the kalashtar’s dream spirit is the spirit of an owlbear. When they rage the owlbear takes over their body and they don’t realize what just happened until after the rage ends.
Love some owlbear love!!
Building off the idea of constellations. Dip into fighter for rune knight and brand the stars on your body, shield, etc.
Could even work better with the ancestral guardian and mark your body with ashes of your clan, family, etc

A few concepts I've come up with.
Actor Who Went Too Method: You are an actor who is doing research into the legendary Beast Totem Warrior. Only trouble you went so method that the role consumed you. Now there is very little of you left. There are stage fighting flourishes, flamboyant larger than life mimicking of different beasts and overly dramatic verbose manner of speaking. There are of course a few NPC's who are worried about you and wish to get the old you back. Can you snap back to reality or have you become too lost in the role to ever return?
Alchemist: Instead of totems, you have a number of potions that grant you powers.
Attunement Warrior: You have a magic item that grants your rage, your various features etc. In fact even features such as wreck less attack, extra attack etc are all based of your attuned item. Without this magic item you are a weak scrawny commoner (with commoner stat block) however with this attuned item you are a powerful warrior.
A Wizard Did It: This one requires a spell caster in the party. When you Rage, this is flavoured as the party's spell caster (they could be Bard, Cleric, Druid, Sorcerer, Warlock or Wizard) casting a rage spell on you. With this flavour, the Rage ends when the caster falls. As such you need to protect the spell caster who enables your RAGE. The totems represent the caster upcasting the RAGE spell with different effects.
Bardbarian: Yes you are a performer. A dancing story teller whose movements mimic different animals. You perform your unique dances in each place you visit. Your dances even aid you in battle.
Body Horror Barbarian: When you activate Rage, your body undergoes a painful and horrific transformation. Your body transforms into an assortment of various animal parts. As you level up, your transformations become more terrifying.
Magical Tattoo Warrior. You paint magical tattoos on your body that give you enhanced fighting powers.
Temple Warrior: This is a bit esoteric. The Temple Warriors are individuals who are summoned from a pocket dimension. When you "rage" you vanish and a new warrior appears taking your place. These warriors invoke various beast traits in their fighting styles. If you die, the entire pocket dimension implodes. So try not to die.
Wrath of The Heavens: Instead of channeling beast forms, you channel the power of the weather. Tempests, Droughts, Blizzards, Heavy Rain etc.
For my Goliath Barbarian I went with the Bear Totem gifts. Instead of it having some spiritual connection to a spirit of some kind, we instead decided to take a more... practical approach. My Goliath was just "too strong". He was just that tough, and a body that well adapted to pain, that he achieved super human levels of power. Especially after we determined mathematically how strong a Goliath could be combined with Bear's second gift.
I think our Dwarf Bear Barb does that. I've never seen him do anything to match the flavor of the totem

I have an idea for a character with this subclass. Goliath/orc hybrid, the spirit totem is the mustelid with the highest level of IDGAF on all of Earth, the Honey Badger. It's bear totem all the way through, obviously.
My group is planning a lot of campaigns at the moment so we always have a campaign to play for different genres and categories of stories that way we don’t get bored. My character for our Chinese/Japanese campaign is a Baku ( dream eater Yokai ) style character that has firework and illusion magic which really works with the dream magic style in a unique way. I think of d&d as a story writing game, I actually wrote 4 books in the past in 100 page note books as well.

I'm currently playing a totem barbarian in a campaign. He's a Hill Dwarf and the way I see it his clan goes on a vision quest, as a coming of age rite, to find their animal totem and ultimately their place in the tribe, if they survive. I decided to go with the eagle totem, but since he already has darkvision, I decided instead to change it to an owl. My DM and I decided to make it so that when the Owl totem chose him his head would then be able to have the same rotation as an owls and his eye would turn lavender (just to be a little different). When he gets his flight ability I'm thinking that he gets some kind of cloak made of feathers or something that grants him the ability of short flight. I'm really enjoying this so far.
I've enjoyed this format and hope to see more. I do this level of reskinning all the time and it leaves my players in constant wonder.
I'm a 3d sculptor for tabletop minis and am also making a unique 5e setting. Would be cool to work together on a kickstarter someday

I live this stuff! I built an orc/halfling barbarian that had a boar (bear/elk) totem.
One of my favorite characters I've played was a Totem Warrior. The character before him was a longtooth shifter ranger who fell into lava and sacrificed himself, so the character I played after him was a lizardfolk shadow monk/wolf totem barbarian who the ranger's spirit accidentally got trapped inside... good times

I came up with a Minotaur barbarian who revered the Chimera as his totem (going for a greek myth theme). I planned to use the eagle totemic attunement as the dragon side to fly, the tiger aspect of the beast for the lion's (perhaps lioness'? since the legendary chimera was supposed to be female despite always being depicted with manes, and female lions are hunters?) mastery of survival and the wilderness, and the elk totem spirit for the goat's nimbleness. Probably would seek out some sort of flaming weapon (like a great axe forged in the shape of the three heads of the chimera) as well.
I thought of maybe playing a tiefling ( in which case Hellish Rebuke would be reflavored as a Breath weapon and they wouldn't be of a infernal legacy but of a draconian legacy) in which culture as a rite of passage they had to as a group hunt a young dragon together and consume its flesh to reach adulthood which would truly make them a Draconian. As a result their bodies began taking on more drastic dragon traits. Dragons thicc hide (Bear) dragonlike eyes (Eagle) and finally the last trait that few among their tribe take on is sprouting dragon leathery wings (Eagle again). They believe that their lineage traces roots all the way back to when dragons ruled the world and and a rogue dragon wished to give humans a fighting chance and gifted the ancestors of this tribe with the draconic gift. Few among their tribe, manage to call upon the wisdom of this ancient dragon and spirits of their ancestors (Spirit Walker feature)
PS I would love this kind of videos to continue, and Im also an artist if you ever need art for your stuff hook a brother up :)
Now that's the kind of lore I would put in my campaign!

Little late to this party, but it's a real shame this format is doing worse. They're the reason I got into your channel and I really enjoy them, they've made me think about things in a totally different way. I hope they pick up. Great video!

It may not be a Totem Barbarian, but I I currently play a Leonin Zealot Barbarian but I've re-flavored the subclass (even giving a different name Path of the Unrelenting). Instead of being driven by divine blessing my Leonin is driven by the Hunt. The hunt means everything and will be unrelenting until he success or is killed.
You forgot the elements!!! Bear totem is easily earth, giving you hardness like a rock. Air could be eagle/elk... but even then. What about ecosystems, maybe not earth... but the mountain, wind, forest, rivers, deserts.
What about super powers? You can change you appearance to match that of your totem, adding a little polymorph flavor to it... so why not turn you skin into metal like colossus, or your bones, like wolverine.
Or maybe you are more like Iron-Man and you found a mystic armor that expands and covers your body. This could even work like Venom, having a living armor attached to you that gives you special abilities.
Don’t know if you’ll keep doing these videos with the performance as is but if you do the soul knife, I’m playing one that psychically bonds with rats that they send to kill people instead of the knives and think that could be some interesting inspiration

In ravnica, you could re-flavour the totems as the image of the forgotten gods like the boar-god of the Gruul clans. In Amonkhet, you could re-flavour them as the image of the five principals gods of the naktamun pantheon. And you could go even further! You could re-flavour them as the five courts of Eldraine or the five gangster families of new capenna!! In short, those five totems could be reflavored as anything related with the five mana Colors of the MTG Multiverse!!
