- The last step in this long process is now complete! I've just returned from my SEF appointment with my temporary residency document in my hand! In this video, I walk you though the process, what I brought with me, what I actually needed and my experience overall.
I'm so happy that this process, which I started back in October of 2022 has finally come to a positive culmination. I did the VFS application and the SEF appointment BY MYSELF -- I do not recommend hiring an agent or lawyer as they will take thousands of Euros for what you can easily do yourself. The biggest help and resource for me as the Facebook group, Americans and Friends in PT. Their checklist and forum provided great insight overall into every step of this process. Let's not feed into the predatory agent businesses that have cropped up.
Good luck to everyone going through this process! I will not answer any specific questions, please don't contact me with requests for help -- I am not an agent and this is not my profession, I'm just sharing my experience if it can help you. My advice is to check the Facebook Group I mentioned above and if all else fails, hire a lawyer. I don't give advice for free ;)

Hello, I'm Enow Jesse from Cameroon, I am an entrepreneur and earn up to £77.476.67 per month ,I will like to relocate to Portugal with my family on a digital nomad visa, I have three biological kids of 16,14 and 13 years and two dependents of 17 years who are orphans and students, I'm the one taking care of them including me and my newly wedded wife. I will like to stay in Portugal for three years and the reason I'm traveling with my family is for them to study and to learn the Portuguese culture.

Do u have any idea about the renewal after 2 years? Like I just wanna know if I wasn’t able to secure the minimum digital nomad salary at any point, would they not renew it?
nice man, i am also planning on doing the vfs / sef appointment myself, not interested in paying someone 3-5k euros to look over paper work that the lawyer will have you get anyways.. lol congrats btw

How long did it take to get your actual residency card in the mail? And could you travel outside of Portugal when you only had the paper print out they gave you?

It took nearly 6 months to receive the card. You can travel with the paper in the meantime as long as you are leaving Schengen in and out of Portugal

@@AdrienField I hope it's okay to ask one more question ... If I fly out of Lisbon to US (with just the paper print of residency) but am connecting through Spain or another country in Schengen to get to the US, did you find that to be a problem? Or is it okay since the flight starts in Portugal? Again, thank you & wishing you a magical weekend.
@VeronicaKrestow22 it’s a risk because you don’t pass immigration until the last country where you’re leaving Schengen. Better to fly directly in and out of pt

What about the taxes? Have you been paying taxes before/after the appointment at sef?

Do you know if its possible to use the temporary residence letter that you have (whilst waiting for the card to arrive in the mail) to re-enter the country if you leave?
I will likely have run out of my two re-entries on my visa by the time by SEF appointment is but wondering if I can still leave and re-enter the country whilst waiting on the physical card to come.

How long did it take you to book an appointment? I'm thinking of using SEF Booker just not sure if it's worth the cost
@@RyanBurbank-c6w Hey, the appointment was booked for me by the Portugese consulate in London once my visa application had been approved.

Also for anyone else reading this, I've found out that YES, the receipt you receive can be used as your residence permit card until your card arrives

Do you need NIF to apply for D8 visa?
Yes, you need a NIF and Portuguese bank account to apply for the D8 visa.
