    How to sterilize without a pressure cooker.
    Step one: boil water
    Step two: take a nap

    I used this method for my first attempt at growing with 3 jars, innoculated 1 and stored the other 2, and the first jar has been fully colonized and transfered to bulk and is a few days from pinning. Just hit primordia, used 2 other with some transfers and 1 of the 2 jars is fully colonized and I'm getting ready to push to bulk, the other jar developed trich but that was my fault, to any doubters this method works, I truly appreciate it

      After you inoculated your jar did you poke a hole in the lid or just tighten it up or did you leave it a little loose?

      @@juliomontano94 Thanks. I just finished the 2 hours of boiling then simmering the jars in a big pot 1 inch up the jars exactly like you did in your video with the aluminum foil over the top but for some unknown reason I see a lot of condensation inside of the jars. I think I messed it up I remember you saying that it's supposed to be dry. It was definitely dried and cooled completely before I did that last step so I'm stumped.

      @@juliomontano94 I wound up putting the jars in my oven on 300° for about 20 minutes and it dried up all the condensation. Fingers crossed when I inoculate them tomorrow with my golden teacher spores. Thankyou for responding to my question that means alot. Subscribed.

    Great job but I’ve a few questions: 1) only popcorn? what about bird seed or rye…any thoughts? 2) how do you innoculate if the covers are solid? Thanks

    Great vid. How would you inoculate these without exposing the grain to potentially contaminated air?

    • @Thegratefulgardener

      So I set everything up in a room and just do it open air as long as you work fast and clean you’ll be good! I may need to make a video on how I do that! Thank you for time dude

      Have you ever seen the silicone technique? I’ve never tried it but it makes since. Inoculated though a little silicone hole that you put in.

    • @Thegratefulgardener
      @Thegratefulgardener 2 місяці тому +2

      Yeah so I think the silicone piece your talking about is the self healing ports I have used them but on pre made jars that I had gotten all done up I have never modified the lids my self with it tho I’m always trying to do things as cheap and easy as I can and those ports are definitely nice but not needed

    It just occurred to me that a person could probably use a large Pyrex cake pan and do it in the oven also.

    When you inoculate the jars do you poke a hole in the lid or do you just tighten the lid tight or keep it kind of loose?

    instead of soaking the jars just put them in the dishwasher on sanitize mode

    What’s everyone’s beef with spending $130 on a PC?

    • @BA-bf4fr
      @BA-bf4fr 2 місяці тому +1

      When first starting, not everyone sees spending that $$$ as necessary.
      I started with PF Tek and half pint jars.
      Then I got a small PC at a thrift store.
      Another couple of years and I then thought it necessary to purchase a Presto 23qt. PC, and another couple of years before I got an FFU.
      Not everyone will stick with the hobby and the hobby isn't about getting mushrooms the fastest.
      Those that stick with growing mushrooms do learn patience.
      This guys point is that you don't need all the 'fancy' equipment, if you just want to grow a few mushrooms.
      Om-

    Why is 70% ETOH used vs. 90%?

    • @AndiePiercy
      @AndiePiercy 2 місяці тому +1

      70% takes longer to evaporate so is in contact with the contam for longer. Fyi you can dilute 90% with tap water to make 70%
