Good video, when I service these, if I'm not changing the burner seal & the flue is gettable attable , I use the customers watering can & give the h\ex a wash through the flue terminal.
Hi. If you put water in the flue sample point it’s only going to run straight into the siphon or partially clean out the very bottom of the sump. Best option is to pour your water into the top of the heat exchange or even better pour your sentinel into there if you’re getting sulphate blockage issues.
Good video. question for you: if you're having problems with a blocked outlet (the top outlet as you pointed out), how tdo you get the cleaner in the the heat exchanger to help clear the blockage? cheers
I take it you’d have to drain the entire central heating system down after using the cleaner? Would t not be quicker just to manually clean the cell? Great video BTW
It's a primary heat cell( kebab heat exchanger) water within the central heating circuit is heated for either the CH or is sent to the plate to plate heat exchanger. There heat transfers to the incoming cold water via a different piping circuit to give you hot water.
Great vid - many thanks. Can you please do one on how to clean rust particles from a combi plate heat exchanger? Mine blocked up, so I put a new one, but want to clean the old one to keep for a spare. No other vids on UA-cam showing cleaning plate hexs. Thanks
Sebastian Hibbert Many thanks Sebastian. I think there will be some demand for cleaning plate hex's, as there's no info out on the web how to do it nor anything on UA-cam. It's quite a common problem having plates choked with rust from dirty old systems, and requests for info comes up quite a lot on forums. As you undoubtably know, plates are expensive. The Vaillant one for my Turbomax retails at over £100, but luckily I got an old stock genuine new one on Ebay for a tenner. Would be great to know how to properly clean them to restore performance. Also, any non-gas boiler repairs would have good demand, eg. div. valves, ex. vessels, NTCs, etc. Very little out there in Tubeland. Thanks again, and please keep the great vids coming. Ian
I'm aware this video is old but I have to say... you run water through the flue sampling point? Well that will run down the silencer and out the sump. I agree taking the burner off and and running water through them is a great idea but just not through there.
I take it the white powder building up is aluminium oxide? Hence why certain boiler makes and models avoid aluminium and stick too stainless steel. Shame Worcester don't make videos like for this for all there installers. Would make sense all they would have too do i get people too register or make account using there gas safe number. Would stop people have too post videos on UA-cam for all the chances too see and think they can have a go them selfs.

can you tell me what type of heat exchanger this is?

Got a scaled one today - will do video tomorrow - I've got a great trick using drain acid to clean it.
