I think it would depend on what the item is. For example, if the item was a t-shirt or short sleeve button front top, I would consider $6 paying up, but if it was a jacket or a substantial dress, it would be very reasonable. I try to be careful what I pay up for, Goodwills are fairly expensive near me and charge by the type of item instead of individually, but if I can find great brands that sell for $30 to $40 or more depending on the cost of the item, it is totally worth it. The problem is if I am wrong or miss I flaw, mistakes can add up quickly and be fairly expensive. For example, long sleeve tops and sweaters come out to $8 with tax, short sleeves are about $6.75, jackets are about $14, dresses are $12. They do have tag of the week which is 75% off so I try to get my bread and butter items from cheaper items and scan the new racks for items with high value.
I'd LOVE to have yiur typical COGs. I know a lot of resellers alwaya go for the new racks, but I loke the thrill of the hunt for the half price tags and always have, even when I only thrifted for personal use. I will oay $10 for a solid item, mkre than that I consider oaging up, but still priorotize lookobg for the markdown colors until I take the plunge to try the Bins....
My thrift store prices are $5 to $15, and bins are 2.89 a pound. Paying up for me is to pay over $15 up to $40. I will pay up if item sales super fast and I can at least double my cost after fees. I prefer to pay for an item that will sell fast than paying less for something that will take long to sell.
😂😅I am extremely lucky and most of my inventory is found at the bins. So $5 would seem like paying up. I will if I'm at a thrift store and find an unusual piece. The most I think I invested was $12, but it ended up being a $80 profit so I was totally ok with that.
I love to resell L.L. Bean! I just think they are so quality and I feel good about selling it. I have a goose down L.L. Bean that I can’t believe hasn’t sold. That’s one brand that I can’t seem to figure out their pricing. Those are some great buys! I still buy good items with flaws. I understand completely feeling like it was a pay up, but hopefully it’s a quick turn around!
That’s a great way to look at it! I may use that. Do you have a time frame too? Or will you pay up for things that you will likely have in your store for a while?
@@JenntheReSeller i like a good mix of short tail and long items personally. But the longer an item sits more likely I am to want to move the item via a sale or offer.
During your purge will you literally get rid of everything you listed in 2023 or still keep some depending on value? How do keep yourself from not trying to keep too much? I have a hard time getting rid of things that I already put work into especially if it has some value just slow sell through.
I think that is such a valid point. And if I had more space, I likely would not do a purge. Or maybe a smaller one. My goal is to get rid of at least 90%. But I may take new photos or combine items to make lots, depending. I haven’t started yet. I need to get my Christmas decorations down first. Then I can start.
Hi Jenn really enjoy your videos. Learn something new with e eryone. I hope to be able to start posting items soon have been dealing with moms health issues for a few weeks. I was hoping to start in the new year but that did not happen Have lots of i ventory just need the time to be able to actually start. ⁰was thinking of starting with a couple of belts and see how it goes. What did you start with?
I feel like $9 may have been a bridge too far for me. LOL I am reselling and 25% of my proceeds goes to a horse rescue, so I am learning I am going to have to be super fruggle. And to make matters worse people keep LOW BALLING me in their offers. I'm like "Really? I list a dress at $35, and you offer me $15, and you see I give 25% to horse rescue, AND have FEES to pay the site?" It hurts my heart, but I am praying through that. Do the folks at your FAV spots KNOW you are reselling? I had a lil ol' gal literally say to me "can you believe people come here, get all this stuff, and then go resell it? Isn't that HORRIBLE?". My heart sank, but then I said to her, "Well, they are passing along a good deal to others AND keeping this stuff from going to landfills." But her lil face still haunts me. TY for your videos.
Oh goodness! That would have been such a tough conversation! I am so sorry you had to deal with that. The guys at my old fave spot have know for years. In fact, they call me the eBay lady. The people at my new fave spot are not super consistent (not am I), and no one has asked. I don’t offer the information, but I don’t lie if I get asked about it.
@@JenntheReSeller girl, I ventured out to the Bins on Indy's west side yesterday- So, My FIRST Bins visit! Wasn't horrible, and I am challenging myself to get comfortable with people being in "my personal space", but I am not aggressive enough to hang there a lot. I did decide I want to visit the one in Greenwood at least once to see if the culture/vibe there is the same. Congrats on the sales 1/10! Getting that selling-vibe going for 25!

The hunt is the best part!

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. The fast nickel over the slow dime, or something like that.

No kidding! What was it?
Paying over $6 is paying up for me. The thrift store prices are so high now!
They really are!

Yeah, L.L. Bean is a mystery. Some things sell for a lot. And some for basically nothing. But it’s all such good quality.
I pay up if I can 3x plus my money

Paying up depends on item/category. Anything more than $7 I get a little nervous😂
👍
I sold 1 thing today and it snowed so much the mail man didn't come.
Oh no! ❄️
We do care about your home makeover.

Where are the bins you go to?
Indianapolis
Jen, if you don’t mind sharing. Where do you get your storage bags from?
I bought them from Amazon. They are linked in the description.
@ thank you.🙏🏽
