A virtuoso performance full of highlights. Firstly, his fidelity to Luther Vandross’ performance of this song is remarkable as an artistic compliment. But more: his tone is gorgeous, warm, full and smooth, showing no diminishment or alteration from the wordless vocalisations to the hushed repeated phrases to the emotional climax (which comes mid-song, btw - the lament rather than grief begins and ends his interpretation). He is comfortable at either end of his vocal range and his transitions from chest voice to head voice are seamless. His extraordinary breath capacity was close to its height in this period - the lyric ‘Don’t you remember me any more?’ is belted with an anguished cry on “any more” for 20 seconds of perfect pitch and melisma. And finally, as if all that weren’t enough, he ends the song at the top end of his register with a coloratura-like riff that is part Whitney/part Vandross. Truly an extraordinary demonstration of his skill set. As someone elsewhere posted, soul is Park Hyo Shin’s wheelhouse, and this performance is a great illustration of that.
