Leihlo La Sechaba I Invasion of RDP houses: 19 July 2023

The City of Ekurhuleni says it has served thousands of illegal occupiers of its RDP housing projects with final eviction orders as it clamps down on the invasion of municipal property. MMC for Human Settlement, Masele Madihlaba, says the municipality has about sixty-two abandoned housing projects and some have been invaded by occupiers. Currently, about 500 families occupying the Nigel Mackenzieville RDP project for the past four years are the latest facing eviction. Meanwhile, the occupiers are resisting the eviction and have lodged a case at the Supreme Court of Appeal.
