- Devastating swarms of locusts are devouring everything in their path from Africa to India. Scientists and citizens are waging a massive war with cutting edge technology to stop the infestation from becoming a deadly plague.
Interesting fact that there used to be a similar locust species in North America called the Rocky Mountain Locust. They behaved similar to the Old World species which is why they were driven to extinction.
The Rocky Mountain locust was a distinct species, and not a migratory form of an extant species, was proved by taxonomic studies on male genitalia and more recently by DNA analysis of specimens recovered from glaciers by Lockwood and his colleagues.
On the basis of a synthesis of the detailed information gathered by the Entomological Commission, settlement records, and other evidence, Lockwood has arrived at a new explanation of the locust's disappearance, which he calls “my habitat destruction theory.” He maintains that cattle grazing and homesteaders' cultivation of a restricted region of the plains-the permanent breeding grounds of the insect-during a population recession of the locust in the 1880s may have irreversibly disrupted locust reproduction. Others had shown that grasshopper eggs fail to hatch if the soil they are deposited in is disturbed by plowing or by other means.

Locusts are edible. If you can't beat them, eat them. Also... I believe ducks and chickens eat locusts.

Why not catch and eat the locusts? They are highly nutritious, after all.

I researched the possiblilty of Eating the locoust instead of starving or depending on the UN.

I had an Old Testament professor who said once that this type of locusts have a disgusting smell. The locusts they were eating in ancient times were kind of like grasshoppers.

Skip the pesticide.. grow indoors, vertical gardening with hydroponics. Why are they not doing this? But they have an app to tell them locust are coming.. vertical gardening could be key in these types of places in world. No it does not replace all types of farming but I believe it could help. There is a lot of produce that can be grown hydroponically. They have a shit ton of sun.. they could have literally skyscrapers of vertical gardening.
