I didn’t have much of a father figure growing up…that being said, my mom introduced Guy to me some 20 odd years ago. His Keepers album. I’ll be 30 next year. I feel that I’ve lived with this generation before my time, even though I’ll never touch it. But I feel it. And Guy helped me learn in the ways I needed to to understand myself-without having that stability in my family. Still learning. Still struggling.. but damn this man strikes a chord a mile deep in me every time I hear his voice and his words. I’ve been writing to make sense of it all, to be okay, just as he did so well; and to touch that void with your mind and heart and a pen…I hope I can find my words too. I feel really special being part of this community, at this age. Thank all of you for appreciating this man. And thank all of you for being you, y’all get it. -Wes
Exquisite. I'd never heard this before today, just now. Seems the regard I always had for this man - wide, like the Rio Grande, I thought - was more like Cibolo Creek in comparison to now. Thank you for posting this.
@@JarheadCrayonEater My grandfather, a multiple-tour Vietnam Vet GySgt mud Marine who was with 1/9 from '65 to '75, laughed when I showed him your comment. He said, "It figures a crayon-eating Jarhead would misspell 'swordsmith'," and added, "If he thinks mud is clear, he never spent any time in the shit." Then he mentioned that you need to work on your repartee, and I have to agree with him on that point. Nice try at comedy, but your repartee does need work.✌
The film and book, both called Without Getting Killed or Caught, are absolutely excellent. So pleased the film is now easily available on Amazon. Really looking forward to this album!
Wow, just incredible. I've wanted to hear his version for years, better than I imagined. I thought it had been lost to time. The footage from inside his house is perfect.
Saw Guy in concert in the early 00s and I requested this song. He said, “Nope. I never had that one.” Glad to hear he did record it, but I have to say, Lyle sure found the center of it.
I went to the Joe Ely, Lyle Lovette, John Hiatt, And Guy Clark. Concert. Very small event. Guy Clark sings the first song LA freeway.. even though I've heard that song since 1976. I still had tears streaming down my face. Just so beautiful.
I'm an old musician and I've listen to music all my life it, Guy the mastercraftsman.I had the pleasure listen to him talk, play and sing and when his gig was finished he joined me for a beer so laid back and down to earth, this is one of his first songs I never knew he recorded it . Thank you Guy ! Sail on
I’ve known about Guy Clark about 20 years now. He’s one of these artists that I’m always humming. When im alone in the car I’ll sing his songs out loud. He did a song called Randall Knife. Ive memorized the lyrics and sing it all the time. This video was really special to watch.
JUNIOR COLTRANE channel posted a tribute video of GUY... People say it perfectly captured his musical soul. And I agree; Guy would be really really proud of himself in that video.
Lyle’s version is all I’ve ever known. When he does it on a UA-cam video he says it’s the first song Guy wrote and that he never recorded it. It’s good to hear this.
great vid, thanks for taking us into Guy's house. It's the first time that I have heard him sing the song that he did not like, but Lyle Lovett championed
Correction: this was the first song he kept. He told me he wrote about two hundred songs before this one. He tossed those out. Lyle Lovette claimed Guy never recorded it.

Coming home from work - and found this, unbelievable, thank you, thank you, thank you

Going thorugh some of the old songs that I remember. This song means even more to me today. But HOW can it have only 536 likes?
One of my favorite artists and wordsmiths and I'm thankful he left us such and amazing catalog of music. See ya later Guy Clark.
Correction. It's "swordmith", just to be clear as mud.

One of my favorite singer songwriters ever!

I attended the Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark concert in Carrboro, NC back in the 80s. Was a beautiful thing.
I've loved Lyle's cover of this song for 20 years. I'm so glad to finally hear the original. Thank you
it's been an awful day, and to see this pop up was a treat. Thank you all so much.

Simply beautiful.
Been wanting to hear this for years. It was like the 1st time I had guy clark song.
This is the perfect topper to my recent deep dive back into Guy’s work. His story is incredible and inspiring!

I fell in love with this song hearing Lyle sing it over the years. Thank you for giving me another look inside this house. ♥️
Incredible! Loved seeing the handwritten song lyrics.
The video is a very seductive look at the Guy's inner life.... nicely done.
I discovered this song a few months ago......It's just incredible. Where has this been for all of my life?

Beautiful as always! Thank you.
Thank you for the song as usual the beauty brought tears to my eyes. And thank you for a glimpse inside.
What a treasure
Thanks so much for posting this! Love the tune and love being able to see Guys home and his stuff
Truly beautiful. Sublime.

Wow, amazing to hear Guy Clark sing this beautiful song. I cant wait for the album release
Lyle Lovett tells a story that Clark wasn't happy with the song and told him to stop playing it.

👍🙏
So good, what a life.
