He's still around. I had the pleasure of hanging with him in my home town when he toured last year in support of his latest album. Basically, not long after he signed his record contract, the label he was with changed hands in some way, and he got shelved. The label would no longer put money or promotion into him, and he had to wait out the remainder of his contract before he could put out anything new. Check out youtube user kyprios1200 for his channel. Also, his bandcamp page kyprios.bandcamp.com
I finally met up with Kyp after all these years, and recorded him live in Ottawa. If he likes the video, I may make it public. He was touring in support of his latest album. Check it out here kyprios.bandcamp.com
@spencermacdesign The hometown of Sweatshop Union has been cited as Vancouver in several news articles. They've been nominated for 3 Western Canada Music Awards--Something artists east of Manitoba need not apply for. And in one article I've found, it states that "Sweatshop Union formed in 2000 as a collection of high school friends." You can't really form a group with your high school buddies, unless you're from the same area. I've seen no article citing Toronto as an origin for the Union.
the best live performance i have ever seen...2005 edmonton at the old side track cafe. candle light with full bang(im talking brass and the big bass, drummer etc.) and to top it off the one and only curtis santiago opened. if you dont know who curtis is google him cause he will be the next big thing in hip hop..DAMNIT KYP I WANT ANOTHER ALBUM! :)
I'd like to thank everyone for their constructive comments, especially when receiving a message in my youtube inbox last week saying "Thanks for ripping my cousins hard work." What this person fails to realize is how much putting his videos on here has gotten the attention of people that would have normally passed him over, let alone how much people have had the reaction of "wow" to his work. Remember to support Canadian artists by buying their music.
Nope, he's still goin. In a message directly from him, he tells me he has? a couple of albums on the way, and is working on getting a functional website back up and running. My guess is that he's been busy with his crew in Sweatshop Union. Perhaps he just needed something to happen in his life to inspire him to write more solo stuff. I just don't know. As for being a "one hit wonder," check out my channel for 2 other videos by him.
hey does anyone have a audio version of this version (the video version) of the song. I like the part part in this version where he's like "what happened to KRS-Ones philosiphy HEY when did hip hop become hipocracy HEY" that's not in the original version and it's hella dope.
@madincraft The song isn't trying to say a hook and a catchy beat is wrong, it's trying to show that's ALL it is. He also wants you to question the media, and you're government "Who's leading the leaders, who follows followers." Even Kyprios though says it's easy to believe someone with a catchy beat and some theatrics, so he even says... "Question even me, gonna believe a catchy hook? Have I got substance? I don't know, take a look." That line made me love Kyprios
Fee years ago I worked at a liquor store in the Vancouver suburbs, beer rep comes in, new guy but looks familiar. I turn to him and ask "anyone ever tell you you look like Kyprios?" He grins "I am Kyprios" and we start talking hip-hop. He signed my I-pod and even gave me some free merch. They say don't meet your heroes, but mine challenged me to think :)
Amen. He's got Slampoet-ia. Very interesting ailment, makes you far more creative, interesting, and all round awesome. No other symptoms, and there are no known fatalities
I love this song and I love this album. Hell, Kyprios is my favorite rapper. To bad he only has the one solo album. Although, I hear that he is working on a new album, so I have that to look forward to.
Hello guys i have a question about Kyrpios...where is he from and when he started to write songs? I will appreciate it if someone could answer me! Thanks
Yeah CCCeleste This is the Video Version, the Album version has different lyrics last half of the second verse, also the timing is a bit different, but all in all its the same song.
@namikejohnson - In my opinion, the only true difference between spoken word poetry, and rapping, is that rapping is performed to a beat. If you have any doubts about his ability as a rapper, might I suggest searching youtube for "Kyprios - Peak Performance Project Challenge #2" You will find it under Vanderhorst's channel.
Hey Kyp fans! Want more? Check out this one on youtube! This guy's added a couple Kyp tracks to just a pic background, but TOTALLY worth a listen! Check it out at watch?v=F4lrAOhdyZw
man did this guy stop or somthing i wanna her more this wuz a like a one hit wonder back in the day even then he dissed the mainstream"the industry doesnt want use educated" i can relate to that as a MC myself
I hate to think that this couldn't make it in the states. I've yet to hear much in the way of hip-hop with a message coming from the US. It seems like Canadians are the only ones that appreciate this type of hip-hop. Kyp, Sweatship Union, Blackalicious, k-os, Classified...just to name a few.
@madincraft There is a difference between an entertainer and an artist. An entertainer does it for the money. An artist puts their art out to the world, and if it's accepted, it's a bonus for the artist.
So true! Fuck labels destroying music, especially hip-hop. Fuck them chasing pirates. Labels destroying music should have no money at all. Let pirates share all music legally. Most real artists make almost all music from concerts etc. "CD-sales don't make you the dopest" as KRS-One said, is the example real hip-hop artists should always follow.
@stormersincanada 1: artists make most money themself on concerts. 2: if an artists loves making music, he doesnt care HOW people listen it, buying it, downloading it, doesnt matter to artists that LOVE making music.. 3: without piracy, I and thousands of others, would've never hear the sweet sound from Battle Axe Warriors and many more fantastic artists.
@stormersincanada You're making it sound like you have to be commercial and get radio airplay, in order to get to do concerts and albums. I don't listen to the radio in my car anymore--it's all cds. Alot of the albums I currently have, have sales in the thousands (at most), many are only in the hundreds. There's alot more that defines success in music. Hell, I just dropped $100 on merch from an industrial artist that most people have never heard of, and never gets commercial radio airplay.
Freestyle Fellowship, Gil Scott, Jill Scott, Organized Konfusion Black Star Movement, Swollen Members, Living Legends Sweatshop Union, De La Soul, Common Sense, Tribe Called Quest Crash Crew, Sugar Hill, Sauks, Kardi, K-Os and to the rest of the dopeness who don't take pay-offs
I just spent a good hour trying to figure out what this song was I heard years ago. Thank god I found it. It is just as great as I remembered.
this song will never get old.

I finally met up with Kyp after all these years, and recorded him live in Ottawa. If he likes the video, I may make it public. He was touring in support of his latest album. Check it out here kyprios.bandcamp.com
Alessandro Morelli for real he needs to come back on his solo shit and it would be even more amazing if he went back to sweatshop union :(

Kyprios is amazing. He even played at my school!

There are few Hip Hop artists I'll listen to. Kyprios and Sweatshop are two of em.
I'd like to thank everyone for their constructive comments, especially when receiving a message in my youtube inbox last week saying "Thanks for ripping my cousins hard work."

I wish canadian music stations would play more of sweatshop union's music, and more indie stuff alltogether..
OMFG, I still have this cd :P
Man I love kyprios, if sweatshop union has him working with them I'll have to check them out!
Are all Kyprios' songs about some sort of message?
This guy has just been awesome for years.

hey does anyone have a audio version of this version (the video version) of the song. I like the part part in this version where he's like "what happened to KRS-Ones philosiphy HEY when did hip hop become hipocracy HEY" that's not in the original version and it's hella dope.
@skjmuse yep...that was several months back that he released it
So true!

@SuperPlainPat - Well I found it on Amazon, Rhapsody, iTunes would probably have it, but I wouldn't want any more money going to apple.

Good choice sir. SM Block Party would also be good to have up.
@namikejohnson "Rapping is distinct from spoken word poetry in that it is performed in time to a beat." ~ from the book 'How To Rap'

*coughs* just for clarification, it's "This is my hook...This is my chorus...This is my hit...It's better than yours"
if there were a high song, why does this one top my list? I know why, it's because this is my hit...*faints*
haha all goods man, its a really good album, different but its good real hip hop
