    Since this video, the RallyNavigator mobile app works on both Android and iOS and it works with any PDF file. So if you have a roadbook event people can all use the same app.

    A really great video - thanks for that, the professional execution is really second to none!
    The whole subject appeals to me all the more because I have been professionally involved with roadbooks for many years as I offer motorcycle tours as a tour operator using roadbooks for navigation. Recently, however, the criticism of the anachronistic principle with paper, tripmaster and roadbook holder - everyone using its own hardware of course - has become louder and louder. This is a great pity, because in my opinion, the roadbook principle has by far the advantage over simply following a GPS track on the navigation device - especially when it comes to additional information or warnings.
    The development of soft- and hardware in the meantime is very promising and will certainly make me change my mind sooner or later. One thing, however, remains the same: the effort of creating a good roadbook not only requires a fair amount of diligence and precision, first and foremost you also have to know the relevant routes!

    • @NomadSweden
      @NomadSweden  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you! Proud to receive cheers and input from a veteran in the subject. This is so much fun but as you pointbout, also a superior way of navigating a fixed route.

    I have a much better understanding of Rally Navigator now. I will have to look up how to correct the odom if you take a wrong turn and come back to that point from which you executed. Where I get confused is the "saving" functions, exporting functions, importing, opening etc.. yes I lack some skills but more than make up for it in "looks" LOL ! (not really..)

    • @NomadSweden

    Great tutorial Robert! There was a time, not thet far back, when our passionated ex Aussie Troy Safari Carpente arranged fun roadbook events like Coast to Coast in southern Sweden owing other events. As well together with SOE (Svenska Offroadentusiasterna) and the Dakar Princess Annie Seel, arranged a very sophisticated bake rally / race in mid Sweden. The first just to inspire to learn roadbook navigation and have fun. The latter very serious with seasoned contenders with ambitions to contend at international races, also an ambition to see if the Swedish Motorsport Association (Svenska Motorsportsförbundet) could be interested in supporting and arrange cross country bike races in Sweden. It seems very difficult to rise an interest for this from their officials though. With Your excellent influence the interest for roadbook rallys, at least for fun, could be raised again for advriders. Bukkerittet in Norway might be the last larger event and some in Finland may be the last of these events that have survived. For myself I've only tried this with paper rolls in a classic type of roadbook like 15 years ago 😂. Keep it up Robert, I will look in to a up to date solution 😁.

    Dear Robert and friends, great video, lots of knowledge. But I'm not quote convinced from leaving Garmin Zumo. Just the right OSM map needed, much quicker to plan a tour from the PC at home. Of course, we all have to double-check in reality and ride the tour. Your Rally Navigator roadbook looks a lot like Dakar, that's ultraprofessional, and pimped-up compared to good old Garmin. So where's the real advantage except those nice tulips? Cheers, Günter

    • @NomadSweden
      @NomadSweden  3 роки тому

      Hi Günther. Roadbooks are for rallies, as a challenge for navigating. A sport or a fun event. It is not to be compared with a Garmin which does not even do roadbooks.
      Still, it does has advantages since it contains detailed warnings and info about certain sections on a challenging track. Another commenter in this video does tours as a profession and use it for tracks that are re-used often, because of the detail.
      But, to make a route once and then ride it, you would never make a roadbook. Garmins are made to navigate with no effort. Roadbooks is the opposite.

      Sorry for late answer. You have to scroll manually since most roadbook apps are using PDFs and don't know the distance for each instruction. There are other apps which could know distance, but they don't scroll auto either. Probably because it's set to imitate the paper roadbook.

      Roadbooks are for sport and it’s great fun. It has nothing to do with just following a line. It’s how all rallies are done because it’s about navigation challenge.

    • @chrisparsons3141
      @chrisparsons3141 2 роки тому +1

      This was my question also while watching the video. I think the allure is that with a roadbook you don't see the full route before hand (on full map anyways). It's kind of a challenge/fun to find the correct route based off the information you are given which may excite the rider more than just turn by turn. Also, the roadbook can provide more information than just a gpx track. You could warn rider of a dog that always runs out or washboard, etc.
      I hear you, my thought was the same as yours, why not just share the gpx but I get the allure of the roadbook.

    Is note 12.09 useful? Consider to remote every note that doesnt need be there. Sometimes is nice to have a control note, that is if its a long distance to the next one.

    • @NomadSweden

      You mean 11.09? Left turn to gravel? Do you have a rule of thumb, maximum distance without note? (This is food for a step 2 tutorial... right now it's about getting people to try and have fun)

      To create you need a paid Account. To use a shared book you are ok with a free account

      @@NomadSweden I asked because they say that with the Basic account you can "Make Basic Roadbooks Only" and with Premium versions they give way more benefits.
      Don't know for sure how the "Make Basic Roadbooks Only" is.
      Anyway, the Premium version is way better but being an annual subscription, it only makes sense for those who use it intensively.

    hi, it all seems easy but I have 2 questions for you: 1- it is possible to import a GPS track recorded with other apps (gpx, kmz etc.). 2 Is it possible to prepare a road book not as a roll but as a matrix-type grid? thanks for your reply

    • @NomadSweden
      @NomadSweden  8 місяців тому +1

      Hi. Yes you can import any gpx.
      Not sure what you mean with matrix type grid? Never saw a roadbook like that

      @@NomadSwedenFirst of all thanks for the answer, it's complicated for me without being able to send you an example image, by matrix I mean the one in algebra or a composition by lines and columns. I could call it a table or a chessboard, this is how we prepare road books at our meetings.

    Hey mate does the phone scroll the page automatically during the ride after going through check points ???

    • @NomadSweden
      @NomadSweden  2 роки тому

      You have to scroll manually. Optimally using a handle bar controller. The roadbook is just a PDF file and does not connect to GPS or ditance so it doesn't know where you are. Like a paper roadbook.

Using the RN software I can add the waypoint using opt click. Please advice. Which is better using the RN web browser or the software. One think i forgot. The map detail in the browser is good and the software is no good no road name. Also in the display in the screen on the left there are 3 box. left is the km. center is where i put the sign and the right is the note. On the left box i find one of it turn to green, can you explain to me, what it means. Thank you for your time.
