After seeing this film, I have nothing but admiration for all the workers ,technicians and signalling staff . That wiring job looked like spaghetti junction to me . Nuff respects to em . -bud the painter -
When you first see the wiring it is daunting. It takes some time to learn how to read the circuit diagrams and slowly over the years you get to know how everything goes together. A job where there is always something new to learn as things are constantly developing. Today a huge amount of this type of equipment is still in use along with the new digital electronic systems.
Its amazing in the whole history of human work you can spot a manager a mile away. 1 their generally better dressed, 2 always carrying something paper / clipboard and 3 constantly delaying whatever's been done.
42:54. To think this was all done with relay logic. As I watch this, I struggle to design a block occupancy system for my model layout, meanwhile the engineers who designed this equipment had designed intelligent rerouting into the system. It is important to understand, there was no code or programming done here, all of those functions had to be designed into the hardware. There was no general processor doing the work here, the functions instead depend on the physical wire connections between relay contacts. My mind cannot fathom the complexity.
Whereas I love the subject matter of the Bennett Brook railway postings, I wondered if the prints which are being digitised are really as soft as the posted video. I would understand if the originals were standard 8mm but I would assume they are at least 16mm if not 35mm. I still take super 8 cine film (using a Leicina Special camera) and they seem a lot sharper. Is it the digitisation process which causes the loss in definition?
Another marvelous video ☺️ . As for the quality of the videos , if they're ripped from VHS tapes the Res is only going to be 240 / 250 lines regardless of how you digitised them . And no point in trying to use AI to upscale them believe me I've tried to upscale many a low Res video and the results are far from impressive
General awareness of asbestosis didn’t really start until the 70’s. According to Wikipedia, the asbestos industry had been aware of the dangers since the 1930s, but had been slow to act.
They wouldn’t need to. They just need to do what the Great Train Robbery crew did…. Got into the signal heads and used batteries to create false indications. Tampering with track circuits would show up in the control centre very quickly, but tampering with the signals might not.
" . . . sending messages by bell codes, which is a very time consuming process." THAT is a bloody lie - and yes, I HAVE worked in boxes where trains were offered and accepted using block bells.

The days when the railway actually used trains to deliver all the new lineside signalling equipment and to recover the old. Outrageous!!

Nowadays I just forward an email saying "Please deal"! 🤣
4) they tend to carry the can for the “lads” when things go wrong
Note the high viz vests on the managers while the laborers aren’t even wearing shirts much less PPE.
..."1 _they're_ generally better dressed" _they're_ _there_ _their_
And we are better paid 😮😂😂
Very interesting. Thanks.
31 minutes 53 seconds, "Dad do you know the piano's on my foot?" " You have it son, I play it".

I was doing trothing when I was line side civils. Good idea getting a train to drop them off now we have to take them on trollies from the access
Was this recorded on a modern bank camera?

I've seen a few of these transport films on other channels before, so it could be from screen recordings of those before they were removed.
And the poor low level volume. Shame, it’s a cracking report.

09.30 Asbestos tubes used to carry cabling. I remember the old days. They were bloody dreadful.
They’re gonna be feeling that sunburn tomorrow
You hum it son, I'll play it... Makes more sense.
It's a shame they didn't have HD in this era.
How much of that asbestos is still there, crumbling away, dust blowin in the wind ?
Hi, do you know where i might get a copy of this film? DVD? British Film Institute perhaps?
What has what was the Southern Region got now?
Three Bridges, Eastleigh, Wimbledon. Is Feltham still open? Gillingham?
All those asbestos tubes. Health & Safety police weren't around then.

Asbestos?
Very much in fashion then!
Around 9mins 30seconds
You'll have to do asbestos you can
Terrorists must not know about how track Ciruits operate.
Pretty sure Amerikans know how _Ciruits_ operate. Whatever a _Ciruits_ is.

Sweaty work.
