This is a programme about the famous Kilmichael ambush organised and led by the great Tom Barry. Not everyone agrees with Tom Barry's own account, however...

Your Kilmichael Ambush Video is incomplete. Q. Why is it that the Escape of one Tan[ Guthrie] and his eventual capture by three local UNARMED Volunteers has been Airbrushed out of the story. They were my neighbours and never received any recognition for this from the State. They never sought it either. We should be ashamed of ourselves for this omission. Denis They were truly the bravest of the brave.
I suppose, Denis, the reality is that "Official" Ireland wants us to know very little about events such as took place at Kilmichael. I wouldn't blame TG4 too much as they have done a good job on much of the history around the battle.
Would love to see Tom Barry's uniform!
We (the IRA) won so many great battles during this war. Toureen a few weeks before Kilmichael which was like a warmup were half a dozen Brits were killed, Crosbarry counter-ambush were about 35 - 50 Brits were killed. Battle of Ballinalee were 300 IRA fought of an attack by 900 Brits on a town & killed around 25 -30 Brits. The Dromkeen Ambush were 12 Brits were killed. The Coolavokig Ambush 16 Brits killed, The Clonbanin Ambush were 15 brits were killed. The Headford Ambush were 10 Brits were killed. The Carrowkennedy Ambush Brits 8 killed & 25 taken as POWs. And of course the morning were 14 of the most experienced spy Brits in the whole Empire of the Cairo gang wiped out.
This really was the greatest generation of Irish freedom fighters, they drove the most powerful & largest Empire ever out of most of Ireland, they were the first Army since the American Army under George Washington in the 1700's to win independence from Britain . The Provos was the second greatest generation of Irish freedom fighters, if only more Irish people supported the Provos we would have got the North back as well.
Its ironic that today Fianna Fáil councillors are now laying wreaths at British military monuments, as in Tralee recently.
