      @@CCXRacer. Not true at all. I can tell that you have not worked with it. You can enter complex, nested expressions without hardly thinking at all, versus algebraic entry, which would require a hierarchical mess of parentheses. As an EE., I've used it for a long time. The reason not to use RPN is that very few calculators use it because of this mistaken idea. Commit to using RPN for 3 weeks of heavy use, and you will see what I mean. It becomes second nature.

    I hope they keep producing the 991EX (The white class wiz). Love it as an A-Level FM student (won't be upgrading to this one now as the changes to the layout is too drastic)
    2:53 - no shortcut is a problem (the most used is Menu -> A -> 2 -> 2 in GCSE lol)
    No way pi is not a button lol
    Functions is great but I can just use 'ans'
    20:00 - seems like the EX doesn't have inverse binomial as well but it has inverse normal - might need to use a graphing for that

    Best way to approach the "format" issue is changing the input/output display to MathI/DecimalO in the calculator settings menu (Config -> Calc. config -> input/output -> MathI/DecimalO). That way you don't have to change the output format every time you get a fraction as the result is always shown in decimal format. The other way is clicking shift-EXE (≈) every time you perform a calculation, which can be a bit annoying being those keys so far apart from each other.
    My biggest dissapointment with the new CW, besides having so many functions hidden, is the colour palette they chose for the iberian market (fx-991SP CW - white and gold). The contrast between these two colors makes it a bit hard to see the alternative functions...

    • @TheCalculatorGuide

      Yes this is addressed in another video. However it is worth noting that for some exams/course the initial exact answer may be preferred in a higher number of questions, so I guess it is user preference.

    Reading some comments made me think that this calculator was harder to use and it made everything more tedious than older models like the 991EX for example, but having the actual calculator in my hands i can realize that everything is not that bad, it just fits more stuff inside a menu and the important stuff is on the outside. I consider this model to be more useful for students as some college/highschool students may find useful the menus to memorize and/or learn the name of most of the functions that weren't named before and they just knew the icon and what it does, and yeah, that may sound like a weak argument but we can leave the menu as a way of taste and availability as i couldn't find the 991 EX in my country but i could find this one faster.

      I would have been annoyed by dumbing down a known UI when I was in the middle of an engineering class. Now that I'm working, 99% of work happens on keyboard and monitor, so the couple times a week I pull out a calculator, I'd rather it be intuitive than efficient.

    Memo to Casio Calculator Engineers and Designers: Talk and listen to users in the field, like, for example, The Calculator Guide maths practitioner and teacher, before you light your josh sticks and release bosh like this! Why oh why move and hide the Ans(wer) key up to that lonely left corner and orphan it from the Exe key and kill the SD key which the whole world and beyond press during every calculator session?
    It looks to my untutored eye like the Casio calculator design bods spent too much time trying to copy features of the TI (Texas Instruments) calculators. Note the Catalog key! The FORMAT button is a pile of time-consuming tosh! They could have retained the SD function with a shifted FORMAT key! And what in tarnation is that shifted equals = key doing above the open left parenthesis key? Or is it an equals key? My dog Boo thinks it is!
    Oh, and when did three tiny circles indicate a universal symbol for TOOLS? Dear oh dear. If I was gifted a copy of the Casio CW calculator, I would give it to Boo to chuck in the air for catching practice! I love that dog, but, alas, I will never be flashing this calculator at cocktail parties or weddings! Garsoon! Fetch me my Classwiz fx-991EX. Mush!

      @MrMarcec85 Рік тому +1

      Yes. Bit the difference is that TI is implemented in a way that is LOGICAL and FAST, for example, with the multi- keys functions. It is different, but fast. Here it seems they kept the "Casio mind-set", but changed to a "TI design" and in my opinion it doesn't work. More: the nice thing was having and wotking with both TI AND CASIO, because each one was the best at a particular thing...

    It appears as if this calculator allows one to define a function, and use it in calculations and solve as f(x), instead of having to rewrite the equation every time one wished to use the function that one has defined. It appears that one could choose the integration template and insert f(x) instead of rewriting the equation that was saved into f(x) for example…this is a notable improvement. I wonder if all but saved variables are lost when switching modes or turning the power off as is the case with the fx-991EX.

      I have the German version (fx-991DE CW), and here the functions are NOT lost when turned off. They can also be used in a lot more places throughout, like the spreadsheet, which is a major improvement over the predecessor DE X. Pity that the user interface changed so much into menus in order to declutter the keyboard (and then cluttered the menus by having every single function you can reach via keys are also somewhere in the menus). They also did not change the two different input modes for two variable functions (like permutation or polar coordinates transformation) (which you have to know beforehand, the calc doesn't remind you), and introduced some more ambiguity (it doesn't have a solve function in the normal calc mode, as the video explains it is moved to an app, but you can still enter equation and terms for the verify function, if you select verify via the tools button. The manual you can get online doesn't explain this. There are quite a few procedures it does not explain. Yet, I guess. The thing feels like a beta release. So a newer model may be better, but you have to buy a new one, as this thing does not seem to offer any way to update the firmware.)

    I became a pro with a fx115es in engineering school, and it made sense to be deeply comfortable with how it worked because exams are a sort of artificial hardware limitation.
    But now I do almost everything on a computer, so the occasional times I want to pull out pen and paper and calculator, I'd much rather it be intuitive because I don't really have any reason to stay at the skill level I was at with my old calculator.

    Caveat: i find more user friendly and intuitive TI Scient. calc. That said. I appreciate the cleaner lay out, I think they copied a bit TI, with one only 2nd fucntion key etc... but In my opinion the ease of use has dropped.. to many functions have been hidden. And the menu, even if is more fancy than TI one, is not suited to be managed by this layout. Except for tiny improvements (math box: not necessary at all, with apps and other graphic calc...) i think the 991 EX is better, even if with a more messy layout and all those keys and left/ right upper keys. When you get used is fast.

    It now consistently returns the answer in decimal format rather than the standard mathematical notation, which was the practice in previous models.
    For example, when integrating cos(x)^2 from pi to 5pi, it provides the result as 6.28318530718 instead of the simpler and more understandable 2π. Converting 6.28318530718 to 2π isn't straightforward unless you assume it's a multiple of π

Many operations need more button presses to achieve the same thing. I do not like it. It has caused the price of the old fx83 GT plus calculators to soar on eBay! Mr Calculator Guide, Can you tell me why I keep getting a wrong answer on the Casio fx-991CW? Please see OCR Paper 6 Nov 2017 (Higher, Calc) Question 5. Company produces 1.47 x 10^7 sweets/day and 3.5 x 10^5 packets/day. Calculate mean no. of sweets in each packet. I input 3.5...and I get 4.2x10^11. Crazy. But when I perform the exact same calculation (same key strokes) on the fx-85GT PLUS, I get the correct answer (42 sweets/bag). The only way I have managed to get the correct answer is to enter the values in normal notation (i.e. with lots of zeros), not standard form. Is this a bug??

    • @AndrewHollom
      @AndrewHollom Рік тому

      Casio seems to have made a mistake in their implementation of (what used to be called) the EXP button, as it applies normal algebraic rules to x10^n, so 1/3.5x10^5 is worked out as if you'd typed "1", "/", "3", ".", "5", "x", "1", "0" "x^n", "5", which does the division (1/3.5) first and then the multiplication (Ans x 10^5). This is very misleading as it changes a fundamental aspect of how a calculation is performed and differs from previous models and other brands. What should happen is that a number in scientific notation should be treated as a single number, not a multiplication of two terms. A lot of people are going to get the wrong answer in this situation unless they apply the mantra my teacher advised many years ago "does it look reasonable?". I'm surprised at Casio for this blunder, which shows either a lack of testing or specification to test against, or a fundamental change in specification we only find out about by noticing its now odd behaviour, and they need to fix it.

      @ricardo-c4l7l Рік тому

      @@AndrewHollom Andrew, I contacted Casio Customer Support and 'Mehak' says I should have used the button to input the numerator as 1.47x10^7, followed by inputting 3.5x10^5 in the denominator to get the correct answer. Or else bracket the two values SEPARATELY: i.e. (1.47 x 10^7) div (3.5 x 10^5).

      The way you are typing it in the calculator is reading this as 1.47x10^7/3.5 THEN x 10^5 which gives you 4.2x10^11
      Try using the fraction button □/■ and typing your first number on the top and your second on the bottom

      Sorry just realised this is what Casio have told you… should have looked at replies first. 😂

      As far as I see it, you’ll need to enter each step separately. Once you have all the steps loaded, you’ll need to go up the list of computations, select the one you want and then do the same with the next step you want.
      Once you have each step in the History stack, you’ll need to use the arrow keys to move up there History, select the step you want,
      and press EXE Tgen, it’s just moving through the history, selecting the steps and pressing EXE.
      Cumbersome, I agree. Casio definitely dropped the ball on this model.

All they had to do was improve on the 991EX for example give it persistent memory and perhaps give it a better screen or CPU, but this refresh is just a joke. The design language is just awful - round keys?! This is more of a toy than a serious engineering tool. Now they have planned to do the same thing with the graphing models such as the FX-CG50. The old fx-83GT plus calculator is a fabulous calculator. The latest cw version looks and feels cheaply built. The display characters are smaller and harder to read. Many operations need more button presses to achieve the same thing. I do not like it. It has caused the price of the old fx83 GT plus calculators to soar on eBay!
