Maybe I should have made this point clear in my video, but I thought I have explained my position on this in other reviews I've made: I find being boring to be a far bigger comedic sin than fumbling through a bit like Schaub does. Jeff has multiple bits on this special that go on for 3, 5, 10 or more minutes with virtually nothing remotely funny. Again, at least Braindumb is ironically funny.
I would watch cringe comedy like Gringo Papi ironically any day over this humorless nonsense

Mrs. Brown's Boys was the most watched comedy show in the UK for several years. Miranda also had ludicrously high ratings. When I was a kid Friends was extraordinarily popular for some reason. I've endured an unnecessarily large amount of time listening to idiots repeating none-jokes to me from those shows alone. Factor in people doing Cartman "jokes" and Ali G impressions and lying in an ice-bath whilst hugging a plugged in hairdryer and being skull fucked with acid tinted blunt scissors often seemed tempting.

The problem with this special is it's just the laziest shit from his routines in the 80s and 90s, and what was funny and fresh 30 or 40 years ago is woefully dated now. The fact that there's a "participation trophy" joke is just baffling, because that was a trite observation even way back then. It's like having jokes about car phones and fax machines, just wildly out of touch and delivered like he's dropping bombs about modern society.

I'm not a Foxworthy fan AT ALL, but this is not worse than Schaub. Foxworthy at least has the rhythm, the cadence of a professional comedian. If a joke is otherwise worthless, it still goes down better with a good delivery. Sorry, but this isn't worse than that. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

    • @Xxpesky_

I definitely agree. He at least sounds like an experienced comedian. There will be people that find his topics relatable or funny and him being able perform a good delivery will be good in that case. Even if you found Brendan’s topics funny his delivery and cadence make it impossible to find it hilarious. I think all you have to do is look at the comments under both specials. Jeff’s has a bunch of people saying they enjoyed it and Brendan’s is just people shitting on him non stop. Even IMDB rating is way higher which tells you at least someone is finding this watchable

I think there's quite a bit of hair splitting here. Like, yea we all know Schwabb has always sucked, but Foxworthy can at least pass as entertainment for a certain retarded middle aged demo that extends to the almost dead, life long smoker baptist demo. Given the parlance of his time, of course. You gotta have a frame of reference. Brandon doesn't have the benefit of the "You might be a redneck" confidence that Foxworthy presents. He tries to be cool and fails miserably and fails to capture an audience in that way. There was a time when Billy Bass, the singing as seen on TV fish was a big thing as well as Billy Bob teeth, and WWJD bracelets. I'm almost 37, if you're 5 years or more younger than me, you gotta believe me, Foxworthy was a fucking rockstar level comic. Top of the heap. To even have to argue semantics against a total tallywhacker like Brandon the Retard is a point for the author of this comment. Is Foxworthy better? I mean..do you want to hear either, ever? No. And has Foxworthy always been terrible? yea, he has. So, there is a line to be drawn here.

OK beige… I’m a fan of your channel. After hearing your intro in this video about how Foxworthy‘s new special was like a “Lovecraftian horror“ I thought… Damn, I got to see this. So I went over to Netflix and pressed play. I’m 30 minutes in and I must say that so far this special is straight up folksy, nostalgic and entertaining. Unless he suffers some sort of catastrophic brain injury in the next 30 minutes… I would say you wasted a shitload of time making an Internet doc on who I consider to be a consummate professional and frankly…a national treasure. I’m not sure where you were raised, maybe on a elitist coastal city… But for like 90% of the people in the country… Foxworthy has been extremely relatable and entertaining for several decades now. He was always a guy you could pop in a cassette tape on a road trip with your family and everyone would be laughing and smiling. I’m not really sure what you were expecting from a Jeff Foxworthy comedy special… Not everything has to be edgy and shocking. Is the difference in watching a gaspar noe film and watching honey I shrunk the kids…theres room for both.

This is boring and Foxworthy has lost the major material over the years, likely due to him hosting gameshows and acting in television. I have never found him funny, but compared to douchewaffle Schaub, he may as well be the second coming of Richard Pryor…Being “ironically funny” works in films, like Plan 9 From Outer Space, but it is absurdly ridiculous to think one can do this as a stand up, a form of entertainment which I consider an art form.

Foxworth might have been ripping off old Tom Myers bits. For those unfamiliar, Myers has multiple comedy specials that would rank at about the same level of anything put out by Schaub, Schumer, or Foxworthy. I was gonna recommend Beige cover him, but Nick Mullen and the Cumtown crew have done a fair job of that already, with the added bonus of having interacted with the hack directly. Although, if you read this Beige Frequency, I would gladly hear your takes on Tom Myers anyway.
