You've made this super easy for us all thank you, my question is why the window cleaner/Windex, and may try using ethanol instead of IPA as it is less toxic and much easier/cheaper to acquire?
The window cleaner/windex do have some good qualities for helping with the cleaning but the main purpose is to color the cleaning-liquid so you won’t mistake it for water or other clear liquid. Hej!
Like the editing style, like the info. I'm broke and doing non-WH models, but all I can pay for is craft store acrylics. Would the thinner help with those you think or nah?
It is possible but I wouldn’t recommend it because it might damage your airbrush if you aren’t careful. The acetone is very potent so it might damage the seals and o-rings.
Why should the thinner be avoided for Vallejo colors? I made the cleaner and it's amazing, only hesitant to make the thinner because i mainly use Vallejo

@@KWoods1958 I’ve never tried it with IPA below 91%. But I guess you could do some recalculations of the amounts to even up the lack of % of the alcohol.
The caution about Vallejo paints depends on the pigments, but that actually mainly is an issue with Vallejo Game and Model Color. The Premium and Model Air should be fine to dilute with the homemade thinner.
This is how Vallejo answers the question about airbrushing Game and Model-colors: Is it possible to airbrush with these colors? Yes, but it depends on the colors. Please consider that Model Air and Premium have been formulated especially for airbrushing, while some colors in Game and Model Color are not suitable for being dispersed in the air. Pigments can only cause damage to health in case of inhalation, ingestion or absorption through the skin. Pigments in solvent-based mediums are more likely to be inhaled due to the volatile nature of the medium. If in addition these solvent based colors are used in vaporized systems such as airbrushing, they become truly dangerous to health, and the use of a mask and a protective screen for airbrushing is already part of the legislation in many countries. Acrylic mediums have a low rate of solubility, and are by far safer in airbrushing techniques. ----- And if you still want to try I would thin the colors in the same way as other colors, 50/50 and see if it's good consistency.
What I’ve understood is that flow improver makes it easier to spray it due to decreased surface tension while glycerine makes it wetter and keeps it from drying up as easily.
@@Starmixologist Ok now I understand. I know some people clean their airbrush with only window washer fluid/windex and some use pure isopropanol. The idea with this mix is to make it as potent as possible while still being quite cheap. The window washer fluid have some cleaning attributes but is mainly added for it’s color so it won’t be confused with water or thinner.

I know there’s some substitutes för glycerin in cosmetics, but I don’t know how well it works for thinner. In Sweden it’s called Glycerol instead of Glycerin.
If you’re using premium or their airbrush colors this thinner works! The game and model colors isn’t really safe to use in an airbrush because of the pigments.

@@TheAll-InNerd Well, as always the price basically heavily depends on where you live. The cheapest stuff you can get here in Germany for cleaning is actually Ethanol labeled as "Brennspiritus". It's nothing else than Ethanol with bittering compounds to make it unbearable due to tax reasons. IPA is WAY MORE EXPENSIVE it's classified as a medical product here and you have to buy it in pharmacies or webshops.
@@Vegane_Atombombe Yeah I think the IPA I've bought is from Germany. Can't find it on Amazon anymore tho and the one I find is alot more expensive now! But I'll keep that in mind, thanks for the tips!
Does Ethanol at 90% also work insted of IPA? I cant find IPA
@@yannick3419 I think so, I haven’t tried it myself but IPA and Ethanol is very similar.
I would recommend trying in a smaller dose.
@@TheAll-InNerd thx for the fast Response, very much appreciated :)
Can you use that cleaner for Vallejo paints? I know you can’t with your thinner but what about cleaning my airbrush after using Vallejo?
The caution about Vallejo paints depends on the pigments, but that actually mainly is an issue with Vallejo Game and Model Color. The Premium and Model Air should be fine to dilute with the homemade thinner. The cleaner shouldn't be a problem!
@@TheAll-InNerd Ok thanks. So NO cleaner when using Vallejo Game or Model Color but Model air and Model Game Air.. it's ok. Than k you! I just subscribed bc of your humor and quick response
So will this thinner work on paints for airbrushing t-shirts? If not do you have a link
@@marklitwa5514 It should if you’re using water based paints.
holy god emperor that was amazing! your production value is top tier camera work everything man so dammed good! one question why would you not use the thinner with vallejo paints?

Hej!
Like the editing style, like the info.
I'm broke and doing non-WH models, but all I can pay for is craft store acrylics. Would the thinner help with those you think or nah?
If it’s waterbased acrylics absolutely! You just need to find the right amount of thinner to use. 😊
Would you happen to know if these two recipes will work for dry erase whiteboard marker ink?
Hey Roy! Sadly I have no experience with dry erase markers. I did some googling but didn't figure it out sorry. 😅
Thanks a ton for giving it a look. Onwards and upwards!
Glycerine can joy dishwashing ?
can you use acethone instead of ipa
It is possible but I wouldn’t recommend it because it might damage your airbrush if you aren’t careful. The acetone is very potent so it might damage the seals and o-rings.
Why should the thinner be avoided for Vallejo colors? I made the cleaner and it's amazing, only hesitant to make the thinner because i mainly use Vallejo
The caution about Vallejo paints depends on the pigments, but that actually mainly is an issue with Vallejo Game and Model Color. The Premium and Model Air should be fine to dilute with the homemade thinner.
thank you so much for the reply!@@TheAll-InNerd
do you use concentrated or premixed screenwash for the cleaner? also is it just standard veg glycerine? absolutely love the vodeo.
The screenwash is premixed and yeah the glycerine is standard. 😊
Thank you for your kind words!
Can I substitute denatured alcohol for the IPA?
I haven’t tried it myself but I don’t see why it shouldn’t work as long as you have high enough procentage.
@@TheAll-InNerd Do you think 80% would be enough? It's all I have on hand at the moment.
@@KWoods1958 I’ve never tried it with IPA below 91%. But I guess you could do some recalculations of the amounts to even up the lack of % of the alcohol.
LoL, well thank you, the help is much appreciated. I guess now I'll have to let loose the mad scientist that resides within
Varför funkar inte blandningen inte med Vallejo?
The caution about Vallejo paints depends on the pigments, but that actually mainly is an issue with Vallejo Game and Model Color. The Premium and Model Air should be fine to dilute with the homemade thinner.
How should I thin Vallejo Game and Model. I only own these and Army Painter.
This is how Vallejo answers the question about airbrushing Game and Model-colors:
Is it possible to airbrush with these colors?
-----
And if you still want to try I would thin the colors in the same way as other colors, 50/50 and see if it's good consistency.
@@TheAll-InNerd I appreciate the information.
wouldn't glycerin do the exact same thing as flow improver?
What I’ve understood is that flow improver makes it easier to spray it due to decreased surface tension while glycerine makes it wetter and keeps it from drying up as easily.
Window washer fluid can be a lot of things, but wy use both Etanol and Isopropanol?
Hmm not sure what you mean with etanol. 🤔
@@TheAll-InNerd Window washer fluid often is a combination of ethanol and water
@@Starmixologist Ok now I understand. I know some people clean their airbrush with only window washer fluid/windex and some use pure isopropanol. The idea with this mix is to make it as potent as possible while still being quite cheap. The window washer fluid have some cleaning attributes but is mainly added for it’s color so it won’t be confused with water or thinner.
if u got trouble thinning down vallejocolors....just use destilled water or osmose water...thx for the recepies...just orderd all i need to mix it. fucking great channel...keep up the ncie work and peace out
How important is the glycerine ingredient?
It's to make the paint wetter and make it last longer before drying out.
Im 4 months into the hobby and one of the first thing I did was the cleaner. For 6 euro I made 3 liters and saved 110 euro of Tamiya cleaner. Companies are crazy with their prices on that shit. Making thinner was a bit more expansive - 11 euros hahaha
Great video ,but would I ask what percentage can be use for thinner if I only have the 75% IPA?
Thanks! 😁
Instead of 1/3 i would try out 1/2. You could really go with 1/1 IPA but to save money I mix it with distilled water that’s alot cheaper. 😁
Can you just use a 50/50 mix of distilled water and ipa?
As the cleaner? I guess you could, if you want you could even use only IPA but that would get a bit more expensive. :) The mix in the video is to make it cheap and with good characteristics for cleaning.
@@TheAll-InNerd Yes just as a cleaner between colours! Then only using the medea airbrush cleaner, for the end sessions!
I use straight windshield washer fluid for both. Works perfectly fine.
As long as you stay away from the stuff with ammonia I guess it could work allright! 😁
@@TheAll-InNerd Can't say I've ever seen windshield washer fluid with ammonia. Glass cleaner (Windex) on the other hand...
How to calculate the portion of diferentes ml but example I've got a bottle 700 ml buy I dont know how to calculated
For the Cleaner with a 700ml bottle I would mix:
Window washer fluid: 280ml
Distilled water: 280ml
IPA 99.9%: 140ml
Glycerine: 30 drops
or
Window washer fluid: 233ml
Distilled water: 233ml
IPA 91%: 233ml
Glycerine: 30 drops
And for the Thinner:
Distilled water - 440ml
IPA 99.9%: 220ml
Retarder: 3,5ml
Flow Improver: 35ml
or
Distilled water - 330ml
IPA 91%: 330ml
Retarder: 3,5ml
Flow Improver: 35ml

I know there’s some substitutes för glycerin in cosmetics, but I don’t know how well it works for thinner.
In Sweden it’s called Glycerol instead of Glycerin.
How can I make thinner for vallejo colors
If you’re using premium or their airbrush colors this thinner works! The game and model colors isn’t really safe to use in an airbrush because of the pigments.
Question. What makes your thinner recipe bad for vallejo colors?

What would be the formula when using 70% IPA?
Since 70% IPA means that it's already diluted with water I would try to switch the amounts for the cleaner so 2/5 Distilled water and 1/5 IPA would be 1/5 Water and 2/5 IPA instead. And the thinner I would try with 2/3 IPA and 1/3 water.
@@TheAll-InNerd Thanks man, that's the only percentage IPA available in the country i live in haha.
