- Welcome to a day of firsts for me and the channel - FIRST departure from Dundee Airport, FIRST flight to Belfast City (George Best) Airport and FIRST time on an ATR 42. What an exciting day :)
This is all part of my long journey to Rathlin Island, a place stuck in my mind since I saw it from Scotland, down at the Mull of Kintyre. This adventure is already on the channel and well worth checking out if you haven't seen it already. And following this one, there will be a video on how I got how to Scotland again, look out for that too!
Flight Details:
DND BHD 23Aug 13:15 14:25
Total price inc tax and seat selection (seat 2D) £58.51
This was not a sponsored video and I paid the full fare. I did however email Loganair before travelling to request filming permission and flight deck visit (based on my last regional flight with Eastern Airways where it all went wrong) :)
Hi, I’m Steve, a travel reviewer from Scotland. Join me on my adventures as I discover my own country, often visiting places for the first time, so hopefully it's as much of an eye-opener for you as it is for me! Don't expect expert opinion, just a very honest journey of discovery. Sometimes featuring my intrepid sidekick Alicja, sometimes featuring adventures beyond the borders of Scotland. Enjoy!

You know you have reached the pinnacle of fame when the captain announces that you are onboard, well done and thanks for yet another great journey, stay safe and cheers.
Cheers Simon! I was so pleased he'd had a look at some of my videos :)
@@simonwhitlock9189 Simon. I am a retired aircraft Certification Engineer and Private Pilot and after reading the US NTSB report conclude ATR is still dangerous in ice andATR will try to blame the pilot again. Seems Unusual wing section quickly forms ice just in front of ailerons reducing their effect. See NTSB report. Professional test pilot needed
I really appreciate you walking into airports from city centers. Would love to see more of that! It’s the best!
Should try walking dublin city to the airport 🤭😅
Cheers Amanda! I wish more airports made it so easy!
When you get off the train for George Best airport from Bangor, you cross the line and down the other side is a standing area with a phone handset. This is for calling a wee man in a people traveller who will come and get you from this location to take you safely across the airport grounds to the entrance. It could only happen in Ireland 😂😂
You can walk from the Roey in Broome Western Australia to the Airport, check in and then phone the pub to see if they'll pick you up and take you back to the pub when the flight to Perth is inevitably delayed by a few hours.
That shout out in the plane is so deserved, all the hard work, and so many awesome videos!
Thanks so much mate! :)
Steve, you made it- now you are a celebrity!
Haha gone are the days of going under the radar :D
That per-flight briefing was a real welcome surprise 🙂
Obviously got one more fan than you thought you had!
It was a proper surprise :D
A name checkfrom the captain too. How cool
AND 2 caramel wafers! :D
It seems a very friendly airline unlike another I could mention based in the eastern counties!
Haha sadly true mate!
HAHAH friendly am local there by far the worst airline ever to be in the highlands
Lovely video Steve and so cool of Logan Air to give you a shout out.
That's a surprise, from the captain 👏
Cheers Paul! A real unexpected treat!
I just finished ten days in Scotland and I already want to go back 😭😭 At least I have your videos to comfort me until I can go back yet again! Glad to hear you made it big, with inflight promos now 😉
Aww 🥰 glad you liked it. It’s where I’m from ( Edinburgh Scotland)
Hey Beth so glad you had a nice time! Haste ye back!
WOW, you're getting famous Steve!. Even the captains know who you are. Thank you for an absolutely fine flightreport.
Cheers Henk! Fame or infamy?
@@steve-marsh Fame, no doubt about it
Nice one again Steve. Tunnock's caramel wafer mmm! stay safe
Cheers Peter!
BHD is a lovely airport, and I really recommend the aspire lounge there! We got 3 hours in there recording for our SouthernAirs! Video in July last year :) so next time you're in Belfast, give it a go (if you're flying of course 😉) 😁
Cheers Matthew, I clearly need a return trip to experience it :)
Great vlog Steve and top marks to Loganair customer service , it costs nothing and makes for a very pleasant and enjoyable experience.
But 2x Caramel bars.....now that's greedy and I'm jealous 🤣
They are a proper amazing wee airline! Look out for another Loganair flight coming soon!
I think you've just solved a mystery for me - I could see a large chimney over the sea when I visited Portpatrick a good few years ago, but couldn't find out where it actually was in NI. Now thanks to your video, I know. Cheers. 🙂
It’s at Kilroot power station, just outside larne
The fact they made that announcement makes me want to fly Loganair. They seem super cool!
They really are a wee gem!
A couple of days before you posted this, I watched the Queen's casket being escorted from Balmoral Castle to Edinburgh by road and I thought that the route (portions of it, anyway) would make an interesting road video. The Dee Valley looks really nice and the countryside is hilly/fertile and interesting.
Good shout mate! Oh and I went up to the side of the road to pay my respects, a heavy moment!
oh aye Steve a pilot shout out eh - nice buddy !
Cheers Chris!
Been really interesting to watch this as, despite living here my whole life, I've never flown from Dundee Airport. Doing it in September down to London Heathrow so this was great to see the experience of going through the airport!
Wow, fame/notoriety? Whichever way the announcement was awesome man. I'm a big fan of the ATR and always fancied a wee glimpse of Dundee airport and Georgie boy's also. Had a stretch in the hospinktal so not been around but great to catch up with the channel.
Cheers Pepe! Hope you're doing well!
Great video Steve, what's it like being famous, or is it infamous! That looked a great flight though,
Infamy suits me better :D
greetings from Cape Town, interesting bit of history about that sea plane trip, Thanks
Cheers Allan!
London City to Dundee several years ago was a breeze. Nice lunch in London City, then bags appear in Dundee as soon as the plane stops Ideal!
That's the way to travel eh!? How flying should be!
Been watching a few of your videos Steve alongside Scott from planes trains and everything it is great to know I am not the only mental Scotsman with a passion for "off the beaten track" travel! It was actually a wee ATR just like that one that took me from Helsinki to Tallinn back in July. great wee planes for a short journey like that one
Ahh, a great Tuesday evening, a gentle stroll through a Steve Marsh vlog…..cheers 👍🇮🇲💪
Haha cheers Andy!
Another great video, and what a difference in the attitude of the crew onboard compared to your previous experience.
Fantastic that the Captain gave you a mention.
Haha so true!!!
Fab flight & you getting an announcement! You are a celebrity now Steve & well earned 😉 I feel honoured you've replied to comments of mine 😊😂 I still have a few more to watch before I'm up to date & then the long wait for Saturday will begin, I watch you while I'm eating, I don't have TV!
Hey I'm the same - TV went years ago! :D Thanks so much!
Nice to see you back in Belfast
Always a pleasure! :)
How cool that they announced you in the plane 👍✈
Thank you for a fun video. My condolences on the loss of Her Majesty.
Thanks Cathy! I went to see cortege as it passed near home, a very moving moment
You've been rumbled mate!!
Infamy has caught up with me :D
🤗 Yay! Well done Steve! Fantastic. Glad you had a great reception by an obviously good, caring Airline!
Eastern should have been happy to have the free advertising on yr other video!
They'll be wanting to pay you in future!
Great videos and views Steve! Thanks for sharing! Sending condolences on the passing of Queen Elizabeth.
Thank you Mary! I went to the side of the street as the cortege passed, very moving.
Hi Steve, what a beautiful flight. The sky and landscape of Belfast City was remarkable. Thanks for the notification.
Another good one! I have to admit, even in a video, I would prefer to have my feet planted firmly on the ground. I know it's weird but I can feel myself flying when I see it. sometimes creeps me out. Anyway it was a lovely trip. Say "hi" to Alicja for me. Be well, stay safe, travel far, love from Texas.
Thanks Kate! All the best from us both :)
Another great video Steve, excellent
Cheers Bryan!
I grew up under the approach to Dundee airport, everytime one of the non Cessnas flew over I'd rush out to the garden to watch! Happy days. In the early 90s I took my first ever flight to Manchester of all places. I remember I had a mini can of coke and a Mcvities gold bar for the inflight service. Can't remember what the airline was back then but I do remember it was a Saab 340 which blew my mind cos my dad had a Saab 99 at the time! Shame the route to Jersey has gone now though. Loving the vlogs Steve cheers
Thanks so much for sharing mate! Great first aircraft to fly! And no bad inflight service too! :)
Thank you for sharing this video. An amazing flight from Dundee to Belfast City Airport. Well done, Steve.
Thanks so much Jacky!
Yet another interesting video blog from you Steve, keep them coming, all the Best. John T.
Tunnock's Caramel wafers! I've been a fan ever since my Mum, bless her, used to slip one I to my lunch bag to have after swimming. I like the Harris Tweed covers on the headrests, a nice authentic touch from Loganair.
Aye, they are very good at the small touches and they make all the difference!
what a cool flight!
Cheers Craig!
Nice one Mate. Perfect Tea time viewing. ❤️
Thanks so much :)
Love those tartan headrest covers - i'd love to do these short-hops. Did a short hop Southampton to Jersey years ago and also regular from Portland, Maine to Newark or Boston.
Just feels more enjoyable than standard jets
As always Steve, a great vid and AT LAST your getting recognition, that Knighthood can't be far away, but as your already a Lord, is that a come down??? I first flew to Edinburgh in 2015 for the Jacobite exhibition and really enjoyed flying to Edinburgh:the staff were so helpful and flight was so quick! Hard to beat the Turnnocks!!!! Keep up the good work. I told a friend who is taking his girlfriend to Iceland in Jan 23 about your vid on your day in Reykjavik and found it no bad!!! Keep up the great work!!!
Haha thanks so much pal! And for spreading the word :)
Wow so neat the captain welcomed you and let you see inside the cabin. Beautiful country as you were approaching Belfast 🤗
Steve, that seating setup was a dream! And, much appreciated, I imagine, with the active days you were just starting!
Condolences on the passing of your Queen.
Thanks Erin! I went up to the side of the road as the cortege passed home - a very moving experience!
Good video 👍 thanks Steve
Cheers James!
I really enjoy the pace and calm demeanour of you excellent vlogs. Thank you.
Thanks so much!
Nice to see my office at the start of the video, the social security offices opposite the train station 😀
Haha no way! :D
Welcome back Steve to Belfast.
Enjoy ☺️
Thanks for sharing your trip on that aircraft !! 👍🇬🇧
St Georges market is a great place to visit. It’s open Friday & Saturday, Great food and loads of goods to pick through.
It’s not far from the fish 🐟 you where at.
Enjoy 😉
Oh LOVE that place David!
Great stuff Steve informative never been to Dundee airport reminds me a lot of smaller airports in Ireland were I visit a lot keep these great videos coming sir
Steve that was brilliant im from Dundee and that's the first time I've seen inside the airport also never knew Dundee did direct to Belfast either so happy I watched this might book myself a little flight thanks so much for this
So glad you enjoyed it, thanks! The fares from your wee airport can be crazy, but well worth looking out for a bargain occasionally, and hopefully it will double up as a sightseeing flight of Dundee on a good day :)
Good to know that LoganAir appreciate your endeavours
Loved the 40 shades of green when you hit the NI coast :)
So true Terry! Stunning :)
Excellent video. Not the usual stuff, so all the more enjoyable.
Fame at last! I was in Northern Ireland for the very first time just a couple of weeks ago. Ferry ride was fairly smooth both ways but the onboard catering left a lot to be desired (I queued an hour for inedible sandwiches on the way there). I wish I wasn't so scared of flying though, then I could save some time and not have to take the ferry.
Thanks for this. Your mention of inedible sandwiches made me think of Ringo doing his incognito walk about in London in film hard days night: barmaid says “those sandwiches were fresh this morning!” ;).
Hi Sue, I'll have a wee ferry video from the way back coming soon, but my food sounded better than yours!
@@steve-marsh To be fair to them the ferry was exceptionally busy with coach parties (ours included) and everywhere was queued out so there wasn't much left food wise by the time we got served. We did manage to get chips snd soup on the way back which was better but we actually binned thosr sandwiches!
@@xr6lad Alas we were with a coach party so we couldn't do that. Next time we're definitely bringing our own food!
Great vlog Steve, love NI. Worked there for a few years. Note the new gas supply going into Kilroot power station at 6:43 (the tracks in the fields) another dirty oil station finished. (Although it’s been closed a while) Hoping for more NI vlogs soon 9/10 😜
Cheers John! :)
Bit a change from "you can turn THAT off" on the short island hop you did a whle back. Great video 2x👍
Haha so true mate! Like chalk n cheese!
Great video Steve! Belfast City is one of my favourite UK Airports, you got to try out the Airport Lounge on your next trip out of there. How cool is that you got a mention by the flight crew during the welcoming!
Cheers JT! :) Oh will need to try the lounge next time!
Ahhh - memories! When I first moved to Warsaw I was given a project to work in Gdynia (2001/2) and I used to fly an ATR42 operated by Eurolot. Left for Gdansk at 7:30 a.m. and got me to my desk, by taxi from the airport, by 9:30. Were it cheaper I could have commuted every day, but hoteled it for 4 nights every week. Did that for nearly a year. Noisiest plane I've ever flown in, and the only one where Business Class was at the back (close to the door for priority boarding and exit.). Good times - thanks for that reminder, Steve.
Cheers for sharing this memory Bob! That's pretty unique to have Business Class at the back eh! Wonder if any airlines still do that?
As a Belfast local, BHD is incredibly easy to planespot at. The IKEA cafe looks directly over the runway. Would highly recommend.
@@xr6lad not much, also you can refill drinks for free if I remember correctly.
Top info, cheers for this! Will 100% be trying it!
@@steve-marsh you can also watch planes coming in and out from Victoria Park, just across a small river at the other end of the runway. They come down nice and low which is fun if you've kids with you.
@@alastairward2774 yea didn’t know how to explain it, thanks!
I really loved this video Steve. The view from the plane was amazing. 🛩
Steve - It really must have windy up there to give your plane that much lift. Look at that. your propellers stopped moving in mod-flight like @ 04:50. How cool is that?
Haha if only I could get the frame rate on my camera set up correctly! :D
Cheers Poppy! :)
Talk about stunning !
That "patchwork quilt" of fields and hedges, on the approach to Belfast !!! Wow 😁
Getting to go into the cockpit, too , congrats 👏👏👏
The ATRs have such a good workhorse reputation, and can seemingly land anywhere ( based on all the Vlogs I see 😁)
Cheers Heather! Northern Ireland was so much more green than I imagined it would be, but not sure why I thought it wouldn't be!
You are such a good bloke. All power to you.
Thanks so much Tim!
Aww, Steve - you'd have thought they could have moved those clouds for you - it'll be another Fife Council cutback, I expect...🤣🤣
Awesome descent into Belfast though - many thanks for sharing!
Haha I know right!? :D Fun flight none the less :)
Oh to be so famous Steve 🤣. Great video. Thanks x
Haha and even 2 wafers! :D
Beautiful aircraft
Islandmagee with the Gobbins Cliff path. Well worth a visit
Great video Steve. Really enjoyed it. 🙂
I really enjoy the mix of plane, train/boat and automobile Steve.... 👍... always enjoy ure vlogs. Fantastic
Cheers Alan! Back on a boat for the next one! :)
Another great video Steve , loving them all, thanks. 👍
Cheers Martin mate!
Cool announcement and I love the tartan tail on the plane.
Yeah me too! Loganair have some great wee touches!
I forget how close Scotland and Ireland really are. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah, the flight was over too quick!
On yersel’ Steviebhoy. You don’t hear of Noel Phillips, Sam Chui, etc getting many mentions from the captain. Sounds to me like you’ve definitely made it. Had to smile when the captain called out your name :)
famous at last steve, about time, your one of the best..... brian d.
Haha cheers Brian, gone are my days of going under the radar :D
Always love a little bit of aeroplane geekery :)
Haha cheers Jonathan!
I spent my undergraduate years moving between Belfast and Dundee but always via Stranraer and then the train north or the plane to Glasgow/Prestwick. Flying directly to Dundee in 40 minutes seems a very civilised way to make that long journey. I'm sure that wee plane could be filled many times over at the start and end of university terms, although student luggage might be a challenge.
(Glad you got a coffee. BA sometimes can't serve me one on an A319 between BHD and LHR before we're over Birmingham.)
Enjoyed both the flight and visit to Craggy-sorry I mean Rathlin Island films. When I used to work on Islay, I used to occasionally see the lights from Northern Ireland!
Haha cheers David! Lights from a distant land are always very magnetic to me!
Careful now and down with this sort of thing🙂
@@alansimpson596 "Would you like a cup of tea, father? Go on, go on, go on...." One of the best comedies ever!
Brilliant - love the old-school trip report, and some in flight footage. Nice to see you recognised as a celebrity you tuber as well now!
Haha cheers mate :) Another wee flight one coming soon :)
Great wee video, You famous!🥲
So sad I waited a whole day to find the time to watch this, loved the announcement! Getting famous! 😄
Haha glad you got round to it :)
Awesome, Lord Steve. Loved coming along especially now that you're on your way to becoming Scotland's very own Rick Steves 😉✈️🚄⛴️🤩
Haha I have a lone way to go :D
Rick Steves is always predictable and a little boring. Steve March and Alicia travel to places you would'nt think of. Alone at night on an ampty road in the woods of Latvia!?
The ultimate shout out! Lovely video as per usual. Dundee Airport is very much of the HIAL brand. Looks like a cracking wee airport. Thumbs up for Loganair and Tunnocks too.
Cheers Tim! Was so happy to finally get the chance to fly from Dundee :)
Hi Steve, thank you for all of your travelling adventures and highly watchable videos, please "keep them coming". Here are some suggestions for more adventures in Northern Ireland ... 1. Dunseverick Castle to Portbraddan; 2. Benevenagh Forest to Benevenagh Lake; 3. Portballantrea to Giant's Causeway; 4. Castlerock to Mussenden Temple to Downshire Beach to Benone Beach; 5. Carrickfergus to Whitehead to Blackhead; 6. Larne to Islandmagee to Brown's Bay then back to Islandmagee then to Ballygally and on to Glenarm Castle; 7. Hazelbank to Whiteabbey to Jordanstown to Carrickfergus. Very best wishes for more happy travels, William.
Cheers William, I've snapped a wee photo of this comment to keep on my phone for next time I'm over! Thanks so much!
Welcome to Northern Ireland, hope you have/had a great time.
Cheers Audrey! :)
Love the pilot announcement!!.. I bet you felt world class!!..seriously, though that was nice of the pilot to do so !!.. I think I would of been embarrassed..but hey Steve ..you deserve it!!.. you do a great job and put in a lot of effort ..thank you from me ..Tom Doc !!
Thanks so much Tom! :)
@@steve-marsh I always spread the word of your UTUBE channel in the states Steve ..Americans need a little Scottish Culture!!
nice song at the end
Great video Steve.....I've never flown any of the ATR products yet but most all of the Dash "Q" series ones being as that is what most of the Canadian airlines choose for their regionals. From videos I've seen the ATR's seem a little more quieter than the Dash series. Seems like you're now a Logan Air celebrity!! Having the invite up to the flight deck was a really nice perk also....those are nice people who run that airline!
Cheers Bob, they really are a cracking wee airline - look out for another flight with them coming soon! :)
Somehow missed this video. Great video. Real shame they cancelled the route hopefully back during summer. Bring that and Amsterdam route.
The announcement of the pilot was vey cool Steve!! The famous Lord Marsh!!
Sitting there in my throne at the front :D
I do miss taking a Plane.... I must have taken Hundreds of Flights.... But I never got a mention over the tannoy!!!!!! Great vid Steve..... :-)))
Haha it was a wee bit unexpected for me too :D

Another great video Steve, your in good company, King Charles flew into George Best Airport today 😀 when I was working I used to fly regularly to Islay and Tiree with Loganair the only inflight catering was a boiled sweet 😀
No way! I didn't realise! Haha perfect catering :)
A Tuesday night surprise. Congrats on making the in-flight announcement and the double wafer snack. You got the royal treatment! So, those TAYTO's, interesting flavors they offer. Need a pint to wash those down. Regarding the ATR-42, there is a FEDEX regular service between ONT and SBA, then SBA to ONT around 1745 weekdays, usually it's at dog walk time. We call it 'the Molly plane'. So, ATR's are cool, compare with the Twin Otter? I'll close this comment with, 1) Those cliff's in Ireland, very nice. 2) Nice video, a Steve Marsh Classic!
Cheers Frank! It was a really fun flight, but the Twin Otter will always be the winner for me :)
Always passed that wee airport when travelling to Aberdeen to go offshore, never actually thought it was a public airport if that makes sense mate haha!
Yeah I was the same mate!
I hope you managed to get to see her ,I got out our street to see the plane flying over ,love from England.✈️💗
I did indeed - went up to the side of the road near home. Heavy but precious moment!
Those reverse seats in front look very interesting, reminds me of the Air Canada Jazz Dash 8-300 which also has the reverse seats in front!
If one is really lucky one can end up playing kneesy with an off-duty stewardess ;-)
Try flying in the upper deck of the C5 Galaxy, one of the largest US military cargo jets. You have to climb some shaky aluminum stairs - www.spacea.net/images/c5_ladder.jpg - to get up there and all of the civilian-style seats face aft -- www.spacea.net/images/seats_c51.jpg.
@@mstrdiver The C-5 reminds me of the Antonov An-124 and 225! The cockpit of those aircraft is also accessed by stairs like those!
I should have sat in the opposite seat! Never experienced flying backwards before!
@@naturallyherb - It should as they are based on the Boeing airframe if you look at the fuselage, etc. There's a long story to it but basically there was a major scam that was pulled on Boeing and they fell for it.
First time viewer. Very much enjoyed the video as I'm from Belfast, and went to uni in Dundee. Back then I had to book a train and boat combo ticket to get home for holidays. £35 return if booked in advance which included 4 train and 2 boat trips lol. A flight would have been so much easier!!!
Cheers Paul! Haha that sounds like my kind of trip :)
A new subscriber to your channel Steve. Really enjoyed the video. I look forward to catching up with the rest of your adventures now that the nights are drawing in 😄
Thanks so much mate, welcome aboard! :)
Another cracking flight review Steve! Do love Loganair and completely forgot they flew from Dundee. To be honest, completely forgot Dundee had an airport! Thanks again Steve.
Me too until very recently! :)
Nice, I hope the other passenger's did not get too excited when they knew who you were!
Haha strangely quiet :D
You can catch the train from the local station which is through the car park and over the footbridge. But no signs in the airport for the railway
