16:50 wow!
Thank you! Excellent info. 😊
Amazing info. Thank you.
You mentioned 1200 - 1500 calories a day. What if your TEE is more calories? Love this video, great information!!! Thank you.
Thank you!!!!

Thank You so Much - I am subscribed and explaining transition is not as hard as I expected.
Very helpful info.!!
Thank you! How are you doing now?
@@Gwen_Peterson_ I'm doing very well. On maintenance now and have lost a total of 64 lbs.
Gwen - LOVE your youtube channel. I'm a fellow coach and I love how you explain things. Keep up the amazing work and thanks so much!!!
Oh thank you so much for the feedback. I appreciate it. I just try to explain things the way they make sense to my brain. You’ll have to let me know what you think about the video I’m loading today. I know it’s a little on Orthodox but I’m just trying to speak to the people that keep failing over and over again.
Agree! Thank you!!
It’s nice to hear the difference with the energy bars. Having energy is important to me. ❤
I can’t find the podcast you were talking about! Feb 5 2023
Did you find it?
THANKS!! The pairing makes SO MUCH SENSE!!
You bet!!!
thank you for doing this video. You're very easy to follow. I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos.
Thank you for explaining this in detail that makes it easy to understand! I’m starting my 2nd week of transition and I’m much less stressed now about the process!!
So does that mean you are now going to eat a Twinkie with four cheese sticks? LOL. Just kidding. But making that weird of an example completely makes sense doesn’t it? I’m glad this video made sense to you because you’re so close to being in optimization, but now you’ll have one more piece of knowledge in your toolbelt of information to help you keep the weight off.
Hi Gwen, your video has helped me understand maintenance and I thank you for this. You mentioned a link to Jan Paxman who goes into more detail. I’m not finding it, please help. Thank you.
I am doing a macro course that will explain this! ua-cam.com/video/h4yw-3TlGOM/v-deo.html New video loaded about my mindset and macro courses! More info at www.gwenpeterson.club ~ Courses Start Friday!
Really helped me to understand transition
Awesome. Are you through transition already?
Thanks so much for the video. This really helps drive home how we can be successful in maintenance.
Very helpful information. Thank you!
You bet!!!
Oh my gosh, thank you!!! Starting my transition next week, and I was petrified until I watched your video!!
CONGRATS on reaching transition!
very good topic thanks
You are welcome. Glad you liked it.
I feel so much better about maintenance with this explanation. The challenge for me will when I make a salad or wrap and add up the protein and carbs in each ingredient. I do use My Fitness Pal and that will help.
This was great and helpful
Great info! You made it very easy to understand. I'm 15lbs from goal, am/was a little fearful of transition. Putting it into practice will be a challenge, but definitely doable. Thank you so much!
Oh my. You are so close to your goal weight. Impressive. I know this video kind of going in circles but I wanted to really explain how you just do the math and keep everything balanced. Make sure to watch the first video I link in the about section of this video to show the mechanics of what you do each week
Where’s the link of your coach, Jan Pacsmons video and the cool tracker
My coach sent me your link to better help me understand transition & your explanation really helped!
Did you make it through transition ok?
Thank you so much!!🙂

Awesome clarification!!!! I'm still about 20 pounds away from transition but this makes it less scary
OH I'm glad it makes sense! Transition by the New Year???? You can do it!
Wow!! I accidently came across your channel - I absolutely love your videos - I was very anxious about starting transition and I love how you explain how this phase should be and what is the optimal way to maintain it. Please keep posting these absolutely amazing resources. I'm a new coach and I already want to refer to you my clients. Go Bless!!
I’m so glad you stumbled on it and it clicked. It’s so funny how freaked out people get about transition and maintenance but the truth is, if you know how to do second grade math and put some thing on a food scale and plug it into my fitness pal, you can kill it in transition and maintenance. Ha ha. How far are you into your journey?
I am definitely nervous!
So helpful thank you!
Thank you thank you!! This is a VERY HELPFUL video to guide us thru the ‘scary’ reentry phase!! 💜
I’m just starting my program but I’ve been curious how this works down the line. This totally made sense and doesn’t sound too scary! Thanks for making this video!
You are welcome!
Awesome explanation
Glad you liked it
Thank you so much. I have been afraid to go on transition because I was afraid I would start gaining the weight again.
You are welcome!
Very nervous
Lightbulb 💡💡💡💡💡 Topic from you Gwen👌Even though I've got quite a ways to go for transition to maintenance this helps me prepare for what's coming sooner than later❣️
Wonderful!
I’m a bit nervous

wow! thank you so much!! just what i needed!
You're welcome!
This is so helpful
Hi Gwen, although I’m nowhere near transition, I was thinking about food in the context of their inflammatory capacity, and decided I would come see what transition was about! In the meantime I discovered that you have a beautiful office!
awww thank you! How are you doing on program?
GREAT INFO~!! VERY HELPFUL!
Glad it was helpful!
This is so helpful thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it
I’m nervous !
Hey Gwen - I absolutely love your videos!! I'm a coach myself & enjoy sharing your videos with my clients ❤️ Question for you: I listened to the first few episodes of the podcast you linked (love it, btw) and she suggested pairing carbs with equal protein, fat or fiber. Is there a reason you're suggesting only to pair carbs with equal protein? I also looked in the HOH book in the chapter you mentioned & couldn't find that there either, so I'm just curious on the reason for your recommendation.
The goal is never to eat more protein than carbs because when you do, you spike your blood sugar which causes your body to release insulin and then you store fat. The more podcasts of hers you listen to, you’ll understand the science behind that and here is a podcast that explains the same science behind the fueling‘s as well. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/optavia-habits-of-health-community-time-podcast/id1072258963?i=1000474379429
Then also here’s a really great document on fat burn basics and how it works. drive.google.com/file/d/0B8WS8XVd5FDXRHNZTTA3UkpOVkk/view?usp=drivesdk&resourcekey=0-4HitqfnyIYTPeDkeP1Ntcw
@@Gwen_Peterson_ thank you!!!! ❤️❤️
I am already in week 3 of transition. In week 2 Dr A’s plan states to take away an Optavia fueling and replace with fruit for one of the meals. Why does he state to add a fruit and not pairing it with a protein?
I understand the whole pairing cabs with protein and have done this for years. What I did not know was the pairing should be the same amount, Thanks for that info on that. So it was very foreign to me in week 2 to eat fruit without protein. I even questioned my coach about this process as I thought I was missing something. I was told to follow the plan as it works.
So.....I've wondered why when they add in the fruit or the grain, they don't suggest to pair it. I don't know why but since you know what the end game is....which is balance....I'd do what you think is best!
I was wondering the same thing! I love how you explained this, Gwen. Just wondering why the plan doesn’t say that.
Thank you for simplifying this, However, numbers are haaard!🤪
Definitely am concerned about successfully transitioning to maintenance and keeping weight off.
Did this video help you understand the process a bit more?
I am SUPER Nervous!.
You've got this!
Do you have a video of how to break down leans and leans in maintenance?
Sorry lean and greens*
I'll be discussing this in my courses! ua-cam.com/video/h4yw-3TlGOM/v-deo.html New video loaded about my mindset and macro courses! More info at www.gwenpeterson.club ~ Courses Start Friday!
I am vegetarian transitioning off Optavia. Thank you for this detailed explanation but what about the Carbs in the protein? We don’t count that? So if I have green yogurt with fruit, I only look at proteins in Yogurt and ignore the carbs there but match it to carbs in fruit? I follow the vegetarian options soy based ones more often for my proteins and sometimes they are high in carbs to ignore. Would love to know your take on this.
All the carbs count. So let’s say you have a yogurt that has 25 g of protein and only five carbohydrates. Then you have the wiggle room of adding another 20 carbs for the carbs to total 25 and the protein to total 25. You want them to be equal or a little less than the protein every time you eat.
@@Gwen_Peterson_ thanks Gwen for your quiz response! Appreciate your feedback.
i have been a bit nervous
I don’t see the links to book and podcast you mentioned
Thank you Gwen, so helpful. What about fats? I love the easy equal protein and carbs six times a day on my maintenance , but do I need to consider the fats or will they be ok if I just do the pro=carbs?
Do you know which episode on her podcast talks about the apple ? She has so many! Thank you
so I would suggest to start at her very first ever podcast because they kind of build on each other. I want to say it was number four, five, or six but you’ll want to know what she was saying in the first couple of them for it to actually compute correctly. Once you get through the first eight, I’d love to hear your feedback on if you like them. I am hooked!
In transition/ optimization can I have a sugar free gin and tonic? Does it need to be paired with protein 🤔
Yes and yes!!! This is exactly what I was trying to explain and I’m so glad you understood what I was trying to say. So once you start into transition you’re not in fat burn anyway because you’re getting more carbs. So as long as that gin and tonic is paired with the correct amount of protein, you should be fine. But if you drink five in one day, now your calorie count will go up and it still comes down to calories in, calories out
OK I not as uptight about transitioning after listening to you. 👍🏼
Haaaaa!!! I am so glad to hear that. I don’t remember if I said it this way in the video but legit, if you can put something on a food scale, if you can plug it into my fitness pal, and then you can do second grade math to see if you have let’s say 27 g of carbohydrates in an apple, then you can do the math and add 27 g of protein and equal it out and Bam, you’re good to go for the next three hours
I am concerned but this helps.
I know it’s just foreign to even think about the math of it but when you really break it down to basics, you Can do it. You can put something on a food scale, figure out how much it weighs, plug it into my fitness pal to then no how many carbohydrates it is then no how many grams of protein to match it with and as long as you can do second grade math and put some thing on a food scale, your golden
Thanks so much for this video. What was the name of the Chasing Cupcakes podcast episode you were referring to? Thanks in advance.

Primal Potential! I forgot I hadn't linked it yet! HAHA
@@Gwen_Peterson_ Thanks for the reply. Do you happen to know the episode number? She has over 900 episodes. Sorry to be a bother.
@@jaygerber2767 Oh I know. She’s the bomb. So one of my clients turned me onto her last week and luckily my client suggested you just start all the way at the bottom with her first podcast and work my way up. So I think it’s podcast number three is the one that I’m referring to but you won’t be sorry if you start with the first one like I did and slowly work your way up. I am currently on her eighth podcast I am loving it!
@@Gwen_Peterson_ Awesome. Thanks so much.
@@jaygerber2767 you are welcome!!! If you start listening to her podcast, let me know what you think. I’ll be curious to hear if I’m the only one that absolutely loves her or if you resonate with her as well
Thank you for this great information! I am a bit confused. My understanding is that week one and two you add vegetables and then fruit. You’re not adding a protein to help balance that insulin response. Am I missing something? Or are you talking about transitioning to the 4/2/1 plan? Thank you!
Did you watch the links in the about section below that explains this? It kind of walks you through step by step.
Gwen, your link for chasing cupcakes doesn't take me to thee exact epidose, can you supply me with the episode#? I can then find it on her channel/page-thanks
What you want to do is go subscribe to her podcast channel and then click all episodes and scroll all the way to the bottom. You’re going to have to do that sometimes I try to default back up to the top anyway and you’ll have to scroll all the way to the bottom one that you’re on
I need a good coach and I’d like to be a coach. I’m a RN.
Hi Ginny! Are you currently working with a coach?
@@Gwen_Peterson_ no I’m not.
@@JoyfulJenn why don’t you shoot me a text so we can connect? My cell is 8013474444
On week 1 of transition is the additional 1 cup of vegetable from the greens list on 5&1? Or from starch list ?
I am so sorry that I never saw this comment. Did you end up figuring it out and you’re doing well and maintenance?
Scared to transition
Everybody is scared to go into transition until they really understand the mechanics of it. How did you feel about it once you watched this video?
Gwen, this was an amazing help as both a client and a coach! You rock!
Oh I’m glad it helped. I know it was a little long and drawn out but I know these type of examples and explanations are what really helps translate what’s on paper into real life
Where do I find the podcast?
Sorry! I'm just seeing this! Did you find it?
@@Gwen_Peterson_ Hi! Yes, I found it, thank you!
Neevous
I get it!!! You can do it!
Stumbled across this video. I used to do Optavia but transitioned off now I’m gaining a little bit and I don’t want to and I was trying to figure out the balanced nutrition I’m trying to figure out like if I had 15 g of protein in yogurt how many grams of blueberries would I need? I was plugging it in and it seem like a lot to make the blueberries equal 15 carbs. Where would I find this information in the book. I pulled my book out and I’m just trying to possibly make myself get back into fat burn without using a program and then maintain again.
Scared
How are things now?
Feeling better about transition and taking it slow. I’m enjoying your content and listen to your UA-cam’s on my daily walks. Thank you!
Nervous
Have you started transition yet?
You keep saying 12 to 1500 cal, what about TEE. If somebody is exercising they need to get enough calories to account for the exercise as well. Somebody can be in maintenance and still eat 1800 to 2000 cal.
Haaaa! It’s because my BMR is 1438 so that’s why I say that. You are correct that when people go through transition, they get to go through the info in the book that gets them to first calculate their BMR and their TEE and they should know those numbers. Also….because TEE varies SOOOO much depending on the exercise they are choosing, it’s easy to talk BMR numbers because I don’t want to throw out those higher numbers and have people think THOSE numbers are their BMR because they’re not reading the info and then can’t understand why they’re gaining weight at that higher caloric intake because they’re not exercising.
This helped me so much! I'm on week 7 of transition of the 4&2 and think I've been doing it wrong. This makes so much sense. I didn't see the attachments if the video, tracker, and podcast. Is live those as well.
