Best lighting and catch fence I have run into so far. I am looking for catch fencing for my high banked AFX track and getting ideas. This is way above what I was looking for but very impressed at the detail and quality.
Man, I've designed my whole track around your series of videos. Can't tell you how many times I've watched these for reference as I build out my design. You make some really awesome videos and I wish you had more! Take care. -Matt
First off, thank you very much for all the work you did to show us how you built your catch fence and guardrail system. You did an outstanding job of thinking outside the box. Some of these items are no longer available but I'm sure it should be easy to find them. Anyway, I am most interested in the pieces you can't buy in the store. I do not have a 3D printer and have no desire to own one lol. I am new to this sport and just finished my 4th track last night and I am having power to the car problems now. Again many thanks, I will be more than happen to donate to your program after I figure out how I can get my hands on the plastic pieces manufactured by your 3D machine. Again, many thanks to you sir!!
Thanks for watching and the comment "MrBonger88". My hands, back, and every other joint in my body have seen better days also...lol. There is nothing available (commercially) that actually works that's why I developed this system. Let me know how many you need (what size turn with number of track pieces) and if you only want the support blocks (for the guard rail), with the Mesh Clamps (for the catch fence), and/or the post to USB housing and light housing (for the lighting). Here's my initial pricing (this is subject to change) $3 For a single support block $1 For (2) mesh clamps with a single post cap $1 For a single post-to-USB Housing adapter with a single light housing Remember that you don't need a light in every position but you do need a support block in every position. The prices above are for the unpainted 3D printed parts only. Understand that although I test fit every piece it maybe necessary to slightly trim the part of the support block that snaps into the track due to Carrera's tolerance on the opening in each piece of track can/does vary slightly. The aluminum tubing, KwikMesh, LED, USB Housing, M3x8 screws, and wiring can be purchased separately (see the links in the description of this video). Depending on the number of people that are interested, I will make another detailed video with the pricing information and different options. Cheers, Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)
Thanks for the comment Doug. Once I get a more familiar with my editing software, I will include details of the layout including the actual design from the track planning software that I use that has all of the pieces used, power tap locations, and table orientation. Cheers, Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)
Thanks for the comment "Ant1". I actually just finished all of the lighting and catch fence in turn 1 & 2 today along with cleaning up the wiring getting ready to start working on the scenery again. I'll be making another video in the next day or two. Cheers, Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)
Thanks for the comment Phil. I like the "Library Racing" on your channel. Whatever happened to the other track layout on your channel (~8-9 years ago)? Cheers, Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)
My old track is long gone. Had no one to race with, so I sold or gave away everything, and left the hobby for a few years. Got back in about 4 years ago. Mostly solo now, but hope to get a few guests now and then.
Wow! You came up with an awesome fence system! I don't have a 3d printer so I'm asking if you are selling any of the printed pieces because I'm very interested in buying some from you. Just the printed pieces not the lights, wiring, fence, etc...This is my 1st track that I'm building and I need lighting and would rather help an individual out than a big company. Not that big companies are bad per se. Just that it would help off set your cost for things you have bought. Well if your interested please let me know or even if you could steer me in the right direction on how to build a PDF file I might bite the bullet and purchase a printer!!! Lol I'm lucky to even be able to turn on a computer! Anyways, thank you for your videos they are inspiring me even more so to get into the hobby. Thank you and keep up the good work!
Hi Zak, Thanks for the comments. I am glad you are enjoying the content and even more glad that you are getting into 1/32 slot car racing. Slot Cars are such a great hobby. My only recommendation is to go with Carrera track (unless you're building a wood routed layout) as it is the only 1/24th scale track (used for 1/32 and 1/24 cars) it provides the extra room for the cars to get a little sideways and still stay in the track. The Carrera track has been made for many years and maintains backwards compatibility aka: I can still use my 20+ year old track with the new stuff from Carrera. Just remember to have fun, don't worry about being perfect, take your time, and enjoy. Cheers, Jeff (Garage Maker guy)
Hi Jeff, I downloaded your files, made a nice donation, and I am using your ides with some changes. I'm using a longer head with 3 lamps of the programmable 3 color LED's to change colors. They will be connected to a Arduino. I'll send you pictures soon.
Hi Jason, thanks for watching, the comment, and the request for more info on the track call buttons. Have you seen this video: ua-cam.com/video/mh7ZC5TjTyY/v-deo.html Let me know if you have any additional questions. Be safe and have fun! Cheers, Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)
Excellent design and engineering on the lights and catch fence. Beautiful product. What are you using for a power supply and how did you daisy-chain the LEDs?
Hi "Boiler Maker", Thanks for watching, the comment, and the questions. Checkout my tutorial video that covers the wiring of the lights and let me know if you have any other questions: ua-cam.com/video/q7ZB8Dni-d8/v-deo.html Cheers, Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)
That is a great set up you have, thanks for sharing! Could you or any one else suggest a good Carrera set to get a guy started in the hobby? I have plenty of space and would like something I can expand on easily.
Hi Chris, Thanks for watching and the comment. Sorry for the late reply. Talk to Lynn at LEB Hobbies (this is a family owned small business with great service - tell her you were referred by Jeff with the "Crowfoot Racers"): www.lebhobbies.com/ Here's my recommendation based on 30-40 years of slot car experience: - Basic starter set: www.lebhobbies.com/30008-carrera-digital-132-dtm-furore-wireless-p-8477.html?cPath=457_615_466 - A basic starter set is a great place to start but it will get boring very fast so be sure to purchase some extra track. Carrera has some "Track Expansion Packs" that are the best value: Example: www.lebhobbies.com/26956-carrera-track-extension-set-3-p-1133.html?cPath=517_518 - Don't buy too much track yet. - Once you are ready to expand further, invest some track planning software and create several layouts for the space you have and then pick one or two that you would like to actually build. - Refer to my first slot car video description with links to all of the gear I use: ua-cam.com/video/xfjrs3UwkQ0/v-deo.html - Most important: have fun and enjoy the hobby Let me know if you have any more questions. Cheers, Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)
Hi Jeff, This is great!! Are you selling the blocks? I'd like to buy only the blocks to make the low fence. If you aren't selling them, do you know anyone who is? Thanks a lot.
Hi Randy, Thanks for watching and the questions. I believe you are referring to the track "shoulders" (with the red/white striping). These are from Carrera and are readily available from your local hobby shop like "LEB Hobbies": www.lebhobbies.com/carrera-20580-r4-outside-shoulder-high-banked-curve-415-12pk-p-1108.html?cPath=517_518 You can make your own but for banked turns it is very tricky and the Carrera shoulders plug right in with no problem. Cheers, Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)
Great video and awesome looking track! I've been looking for a good fencing system/material. I like what you did with the quick mesh. My issue is, I want to add the fencing to an existing "wall" (primed wood trim) and/or around Carrera shoulders. Do you make anything or have a recommendation on best way to secure the mesh to the wall/shoulders?
Looking real good so far. Thanks for the in-depth info I've been waiting for. A bit of advice: don't let guests drive your modified cars unless you program them for a lower top speed, otherwise you'll be digging car parts out of your drywall. We always give guests our 'rentals' (old bashers like Nascar COTs and Ferrari 599s as there's nothing to break on them). Also, let me know if you decide to make those 3d print files available. Good stuff.
Great advice "Johnie". Being able to set a maximum top speed and many other options are some of the biggest advantages of the Carrera Digital system over analog. However, I'm still not a big fan of the digital controllers. I really miss using a good analog controller. Eventually I'll open a huge can of worms when I cover differences between analog and digital systems including how to correctly wire the track to support switching between analog and digital. This is probably the single biggest feature that is lacking in the Carrera system. As always, thanks for the comments (especially the one about the Xmaxx hitting the garbage can filled with empties...lol). Cheers, Jeff (Garage Maker guy)
Hello again "Johnnie", Re: the 3d print files (aka: the STL files). Sorry I missed this part in my previous reply. I am happy to support the hobby and provide the STL files so people can print out their own parts. This will be free (if people like it and use it, I ask that they consider a small donation of $5) However, I have a lot of concerns as 3D printing is awesome but it has a steep learning curve (which you may have already experienced) and requires a lot of 'tweaking' to get things right. The differences between 3D printer manufacturers, filament choices, and the countless number of print settings can also be an issue. I will post the files up on Thingiverse in the next few days and will be making another video to cover that and some purchasing options if anyone is interested in purchasing the 3D printed parts or complete kits (still working on pricing and different options that are fair...I am not trying to make a bazillion $$$ just a little beer money on the side :) Time to go make some empties. Cheers, Jeff (Garage Maker Guy) BTW: Nice modular table video...If I didn't have a ginormous pool table under mine, I probably would have gone that route.
Awesome light setup. When you have a price point for the light system where are you planning to sell them? I would love to buy a kit or complete light housing. Once again super cool design.
Hello David, Thanks for watching and the comment. I am currently looking at some online 3D printing services and injection molding options for production but these are very expensive. I have completed a few orders myself. I am happy to print some parts for you but understand that this takes time and I only have one printer. It takes me about 10 hours to print 10 sets (10 support blocks, 20 mesh clamps, 10 post-to-USB housings, and 10 light housings). Depending on how many you need will determine how long it will take me. My current turnaround time is 2-4 weeks depending on the size of the order. Let me know how many you need (what size turn with number of track pieces) and if you only want the support blocks (for the guard rail), with the Mesh Clamps (for the catch fence), and/or the post to USB housing and light housing (for the lighting). Here's my initial pricing (this is subject to change and does not include shipping) $3 For a single support block $1 For (2) mesh clamps with a single post cap $1 For a single post-to-USB Housing adapter with a single light housing Remember that you don't need a light in every position but you do need a support block in every position. The prices above are for the unpainted 3D printed parts only (they are printed with Prusa brand PETG filament in "Urban Gray"). Understand that although I test fit every piece it maybe necessary to slightly trim the part of the support block that snaps into the track due to Carrera's tolerance on the opening in each piece of track can/does vary slightly. The aluminum tubing, KwikMesh, LED, USB Housing, M3x8 screws, and wiring can be purchased separately (see the links in the description of my "New Track Lighting, Guard Rail, and Catch Fence for Carrera Slot Car Track" video: ua-cam.com/video/V8mZBIgiOAk/v-deo.html ). Let me know if you have any questions. You can reach me at: The_Def_J@yahoo.com Cheers, Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)
Thanks for the comment Matt. I'll plan on doing some more work on the track in the coming weeks so that means more videos soon. Let me know if there is something you would like to see. Cheers, Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)
Hello "Smugglers Run", Thanks for watching and the question. My table is 8' x 16' with extensions for the parts of the layout that extend past the table. Cheers, Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)
Hello Aamir, Thanks for watching and the question. The wiring is very simple and I am currently making a tutorial video and will have that posted soon. Be safe and have fun. Cheers, Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)
Hey Jeff, Great content on all your videos. I keep going back for more. Do you have any updates as of 2022 ? My plans are in motion to up my slot car game. I am not the most creative person but a machinist by trade so I plan on some scenery upgrades. Thanks Again
Firehawk153 Love the work you have done. I am new to Carrera, but have been buying used and new track, cars, & accessories for a month. Your 3D process for components is very well thought out and designed. Honestly wondered why no one or manuf. aren't making access. like these available. I'm also interested in purchase of some of your components or more. I will check back to your sight for a reply. You need to market and expand as $$ become available. Plan to contribute to your site. Thanks for sharing your talent.
Hi Terry, Thanks for watching , the comments, and the compliments. I completely agree about wondering why no one has tried to provide a guard rail/catch fence/lighting solution that works on banked and flat track (that also looks good). This is why I designed my solution. Re: Marketing and Expanding I am currently working with some injection molding companies to handle mass producing the parts. The initial investment is several thousands of dollars for the mold(s) but this is the best way to go for consistent product quality, high volume, quick turnaround, and my current pricing would not increase by more than a dollar or two. I was entertaining the idea of having online 3D printing services i.e. ShapeWays but the cost per part was 500% higher than my current pricing. i.e. I charge $3/support block and online 3D printing services want $15/support block. It is very important to me that this solution is affordable to everyone. For ordering the 3D printed parts or other questions: Send me an email: The_Def_J@yahoo.com and provide me with some information about your layout and where you would like to add the catch fence, guard rail, and lighting. I will get back to you within a day or two of receiving your email. Be safe and have fun. Cheers, Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)
Hi Ron, Thanks for watching, the comment, and the question. Send me an email: The_Def_J@yahoo.com and provide me with some information about your layout and where you would like to add the catch fence, guard rail, and lighting. I'm in the middle of finishing up the terrain on my layout but I will get back to you within a day or two of receiving your email. Be safe and have fun. Cheers, Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)
Hello Antonio, Thanks for watching and the question.
My platform is the same size as yours. I was leaning more toward the landscaping and I've been non-stop printing 1/32 buildings for a couple of weks. I attempted to work with track planning software but found the learning steeper than I wnted to deal with at my age. I like your track layout. Any plans to post your track plan in detail with parts list ? Currently I'm using Carrera's power supplies and since I run both 1/32 and 1/24 I've ben switching out power supplies. Any suggestion for a setup using one power supply with switchable voltage ?
Hello "4lanerider", Thanks for subscribing, the comments, and the great questions. Re: Any plans to post your track plan in detail with parts list ? Yes and Yes. This is something I wanted to with all of my track layout videos but it requires a bit of video editing which I've been trying to avoid due to the time it takes and it makes my hobby more like work which just isn't a lot of fun. But...You are not the only one to ask this question and now I have a purpose for doing this and I like to help people :) So the track layout detail for the "Crowfoot Raceway 03 Rev B" will be the next video I shoot. Should see this next weekend. Re: Any suggestion for a setup using one power supply with switchable voltage? In my first slot car related video "Slot car track....the beginning...." (ua-cam.com/video/xfjrs3UwkQ0/v-deo.html) I list all of the stuff I use including: Power Supply: 0-30 VDC 10Amp from Amazon: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07ML2MP9Q/ Adapter cable for a "real" power supply: www.professormotor.com/product-p/pmtr1400w.htm: Note: Since you already have Carrera Digital power supplies, you can save a bunch of $$$ by cutting the end off that connects to the control unit, add a little wire, a fuse holder, and connect to the aftermarket power supply. Although Professor Motor is a great resource, paying $50 for that Carrera plug with some wire and a fuse holder is a little much. Hope that helps. Cheers, Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)
Great work! By the way, how do you make the track lighting and the catch fences, please? I want to make a race track for stop-motion animation and I want to know how to use the lighting lamps and catch fences for my race tracks!
Hi "1989worms1", This video pretty much shows how I put the parts together and the description includes links to all of the parts, materials, and tools I used. I'm not sure what else I can tell you? Cheers, Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)
Maybe it's me, but I didn't get to see what I was really looking for . The lights: their name, what size, power, where do you get this type of light etc.
This is fantastic. I see you had mentioned that you were possibly looking into selling these. Have you figured out a cost etc? I would be very interested in purchasing, if so.
Hi Joe, Thanks for watching, the comments, and the question.
Hi Dermot, Thanks for watching and the question. This could be a very long reply and at the end, all I can offer is my recommendation. There are a lot of good printers out there and there is also a lot of junk. Ask yourself: “What do I want a 3D printer for?”, “What do I want to make?”, “Am I willing to put in the time required to learn this technology?” Short answer: Prusa MK3S (this is the printer I have used for over a thousand hours) shop.prusa3d.com/en/51-original-prusa-i3-mk3s Note: There is a kit version ($749) that you build yourself and will give you a lot of knowledge about how the printer works and there is a pre-assembled version ($999). Long answer: I have an advantage of having a fairly extensive background in mechanical design, precision machining, electronics, and computer software but that is not necessary to be successful with 3D printing (although it is very helpful). Patience, practice, and persistence. I spent months researching and learning about 3D printing before I received my first printer and many more months learning how to use Fusion 360 (CAD program), Simplify3D (slicing program), and how to use the printer itself. There are a lot of UA-camrs out there that cover nothing but 3D printing and here are some of my top picks that helped me learn about this great technology: Makers Muse: ua-cam.com/users/TheMakersMuse 3D Printing Nerd: ua-cam.com/channels/_7aK9PpYTqt08ERh1MewlQ.html Thomas Sanladerer: ua-cam.com/users/ThomasSanladerer Prusa 3D by Joseph Prusa: ua-cam.com/users/prusajr If you’ve never 3D printed before, and all you want is to make the 3D printed parts I have on Thingiverse for the Carrera slot car track then you may want order them from me directly or you can order them from an online printing service (i.e. Shapeways which will charge you 500% more than what I charge). Feel free to send me an email at: The_Def_J@yahoo.com I will usually get back to you within a day or two. Be safe and have fun! Cheers, Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)
Just Awesome. Are you selling the 3d parts for the lights. Also have you thought about making the Carrera clips to hold the PVC barrier or inter-grading the green posts you made with the availability to hold the PVC barrier instead of the wire. I would be most interested as i think a lot of people would be. You truly have a product that is needed and you could make some good cash.$$$$$$
Thanks for the comment and great questions "Silver Cobra". Answers to your questions: 1.) Are the 3D printed parts I designed for sale? They will be soon. I am just trying to figure out a fair price and different purchasing options i.e. 'paint them yourself', different colors, individual pieces or kits, with or without the LEDs, wire, USB housing, etc... 2.) Have I thought about making my support brackets work with the Carrera PVC barrier (I think you're talking about the red and white guard rail stuff from Carrera)? This is a great idea and I did originally think about doing this. However, the Carrera PVC guard rail/barrier (and pretty much every other available option currently available) only works with flat pieces of track and does not work with banked turns. I wanted a single universal solution for any track piece flat or banked so I designed my own :) It's funny how the only factory guard rail that worked with banked turns was the "Red Licorice" stuff from Carrera that you can't find anymore and the clips were easy to break and did not stay in place. Thanks again for the comment. Cheers, Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)
Here's the Power Supply I use: Power Supply: 0-30 VDC 10Amp from Amazon: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07ML2MP9Q/ See my first slot car video "Slot car track....the beginning...." for a complete list of all the gear with links that I use: ua-cam.com/video/xfjrs3UwkQ0/v-deo.html Cheers, Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)
Hi Chris, I designed this from scratch and I have posted the 3D printed part files to Thingiverse: www.thingiverse.com/thing:4262123 Thanks for watching and the comment/question :) Cheers, Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)
Hi Scott, Thanks for watching and the question. Great video..... I did a fence system for my track (I thought it was nice) but after seeing what you did....wow..... Be nice to have the lights like you have.....I'm not much of a video guy myself but if you want to check out what I did go to "my carerra slot car track"cheers Randy Ps....whereabouts are you, I'm in Toronto, Canada
Thanks for the comment Randy. This was not my first track lighting attempt. I went through several iterations over the last 20+ years. It wasn't until LED lighting and 3D printing became readily available that I was able to do this. I spent most of 2018-2019 learning how to use 'Fusion 360'(CAD software) for designing parts, 'Simplify 3D' ("slicer" software) for converting that design into something that could be 3D printed (aka: "G-code"), and finally how to use the 3D printer itself. This was a steep learning curve initially but UA-cam is a great resource for learning (see some of my 3D Printing video descriptions for details on the resources I use). Canada is a great place with great people...haven't been to Toronto yet. My shop is located in the state of Maryland, USA. Cheers, Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)

There are 3D printing services available for a reasonable price.
That is awesome. Very well done. I’d love to buy something like this pre made. My hands have seen better days lol
Here's my initial pricing (this is subject to change)
$3 For a single support block
$1 For (2) mesh clamps with a single post cap
$1 For a single post-to-USB Housing adapter with a single light housing
Remember that you don't need a light in every position but you do need a support block in every position.
The prices above are for the unpainted 3D printed parts only. Understand that although I test fit every piece it maybe necessary to slightly trim the part of the support block that snaps into the track due to Carrera's tolerance on the opening in each piece of track can/does vary slightly.

Depending on the number of people that are interested, I will make another detailed video with the pricing information and different options.

This is really cool. You can use some of the empty spots to put an LED to indicate track conditions like a marshal post waving a flag
Hi Geoff, Awsome setup for the fence and Guard Rail. and definitely like the lighting combo.
Looking great and fun to drive. I especially like the greater than 180 hairpin! Will be designing that into my next layout.
Thanks for the comment Doug. Once I get a more familiar with my editing software, I will include details of the layout including the actual design from the track planning software that I use that has all of the pieces used, power tap locations, and table orientation.
Cheers,

Great looking track and a phenomenal job on the lights, loooooove them 👍🏼!
Thanks for the comment "Ant1". I actually just finished all of the lighting and catch fence in turn 1 & 2 today along with cleaning up the wiring getting ready to start working on the scenery again. I'll be making another video in the next day or two.

Extremely awesome idea and design bud
Hello...Jeff and thanks for the video... Loved it...That was Awesome
Great looking solution. Nice work!
Thanks for the comment Phil. I like the "Library Racing" on your channel. Whatever happened to the other track layout on your channel (~8-9 years ago)?

Wow! You came up with an awesome fence system!
I don't have a 3d printer so I'm asking if you are selling any of the printed pieces because I'm very interested in buying some from you. they are inspiring me even more so to get into the hobby. Thank you and keep up the good work!
Man this is Awesome! Im just getting into 1/32 racing, and you have a nice setup and looks fantastic and functional!
Hi Zak,
Thanks for the comments.

How do I order guard rail system fro you
Nice video thanks for sharing the components parts list 👍👍👍
Did you consider using black strimmer line in between the posts, might be a bit more forgiving than steel wire.
Wow! do you make and or sell the railing parts that clip in the carrera rail slots
Awesome, looks great.
Can you run cars that do not have magnets on banked turns?
awesome, simply awesome !!
Like to do track goodies myself. Good explanation and video.
Thanks for the comment Pieter. Share some of the "track goodies"..I'd like to see them.

Great arrangement can you provide usb housing and led part number
Excellent design and engineering on the lights and catch fence. Beautiful product. What are you using for a power supply and how did you daisy-chain the LEDs?
Hi "Boiler Maker", Thanks for watching, the comment, and the questions.

Hi love the video and would like to buy the 3D pieces if you are available to produce them?
That is a great set up you have, thanks for sharing! Could you or any one else suggest a good Carrera set to get a guy started in the hobby? I have plenty of space and would like something I can expand on easily.
Hi Chris, Thanks for watching and the comment.
Sorry for the late reply.
Talk to Lynn at LEB Hobbies (this is a family owned small business with great service - tell her you were referred by Jeff with the "Crowfoot Racers"):
www.lebhobbies.com/
Here's my recommendation based on 30-40 years of slot car experience:
- Basic starter set:
www.lebhobbies.com/30008-carrera-digital-132-dtm-furore-wireless-p-8477.html?cPath=457_615_466
- A basic starter set is a great place to start but it will get boring very fast so be sure to purchase some extra track. Carrera has some "Track Expansion Packs" that are the best value:
Example: www.lebhobbies.com/26956-carrera-track-extension-set-3-p-1133.html?cPath=517_518
- Don't buy too much track yet.
- Once you are ready to expand further, invest some track planning software and create several layouts for the space you have and then pick one or two that you would like to actually build.
- Refer to my first slot car video description with links to all of the gear I use:
ua-cam.com/video/xfjrs3UwkQ0/v-deo.html
- Most important: have fun and enjoy the hobby
Let me know if you have any more questions.
Cheers,
Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)
I like those guard rails lights!
Are you yet selling any of the parts from your 3d printer?
Great video. Looks awesome. I’d like to get some of the 3d printing parts if still available to buy. Thank you.
Hi Jeff, This is great!! Are you selling the blocks? I'd like to buy only the blocks to make the low fence. If you aren't selling them, do you know anyone who is? Thanks a lot.
Nice job!! What material do you use for the outside of the track where the cars slide? Is that cork?
Hi Randy, Thanks for watching and the questions.
I believe you are referring to the track "shoulders" (with the red/white striping). These are from Carrera and are readily available from your local hobby shop like "LEB Hobbies":
www.lebhobbies.com/carrera-20580-r4-outside-shoulder-high-banked-curve-415-12pk-p-1108.html?cPath=517_518
You can make your own but for banked turns it is very tricky and the Carrera shoulders plug right in with no problem.
Cheers,
Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)
Are these still available for purchase?
Looks great well done 👍🏻 🏁
very impressive and subscribed. gonna browse around your channel! :) Also, what is the red button on your table for ? Hows it work? etc ... thx
Cheers,
Jeff (Garage Maker guy)
Hello again "Johnnie", Re: the 3d print files (aka: the STL files). Sorry I missed this part in my previous reply.
I am happy to support the hobby and provide the STL files so people can print out their own parts. This will be free (if people like it and use it, I ask that they consider a small donation of $5) However, I have a lot of concerns as 3D printing is awesome but it has a steep learning curve (which you may have already experienced) and requires a lot of 'tweaking' to get things right. The differences between 3D printer manufacturers, filament choices, and the countless number of print settings can also be an issue.
I will post the files up on Thingiverse in the next few days and will be making another video to cover that and some purchasing options if anyone is interested in purchasing the 3D printed parts or complete kits (still working on pricing and different options that are fair...I am not trying to make a bazillion $$$ just a little beer money on the side :)
Time to go make some empties.
Cheers,
Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)
BTW: Nice modular table video...If I didn't have a ginormous pool table under mine, I probably would have gone that route.
Here's my initial pricing (this is subject to change and does not include shipping)
$3 For a single support block
$1 For (2) mesh clamps with a single post cap
$1 For a single post-to-USB Housing adapter with a single light housing
Remember that you don't need a light in every position but you do need a support block in every position.
The aluminum tubing, KwikMesh, LED, USB Housing, M3x8 screws, and wiring can be purchased separately (see the links in the description of my "New Track Lighting, Guard Rail, and Catch Fence for Carrera Slot Car Track" video: ua-cam.com/video/V8mZBIgiOAk/v-deo.html ).

pretty well? dude.. that shit is awesome 😎
Re: Marketing and Expanding
I am currently working with some injection molding companies to handle mass producing the parts.

But...You are not the only one to ask this question and now I have a purpose for doing this and I like to help people :)
So the track layout detail for the "Crowfoot Raceway 03 Rev B" will be the next video I shoot. Should see this next weekend.
Re: Any suggestion for a setup using one power supply with switchable voltage?
In my first slot car related video "Slot car track....the beginning...." (ua-cam.com/video/xfjrs3UwkQ0/v-deo.html) I list all of the stuff I use including:
Power Supply: 0-30 VDC 10Amp from Amazon:
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07ML2MP9Q/
Adapter cable for a "real" power supply:
www.professormotor.com/product-p/pmtr1400w.htm:
Note: Since you already have Carrera Digital power supplies, you can save a bunch of $$$ by cutting the end off that connects to the control unit, add a little wire, a fuse holder, and connect to the aftermarket power supply. Although Professor Motor is a great resource, paying $50 for that Carrera plug with some wire and a fuse holder is a little much.
Hope that helps.
Cheers,
Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)
Great work!
By the way, how do you make the track lighting and the catch fences, please? I want to make a race track for stop-motion animation and I want to know how to use the lighting lamps and catch fences for my race tracks!
Hi "1989worms1",
This video pretty much shows how I put the parts together and the description includes links to all of the parts, materials, and tools I used.
I'm not sure what else I can tell you?

Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)
@@garagemakerguy1808 Thanks for the help!
Are you by chance marketing and selling these?
Are you selling the fence as a set?
Maybe it's me, but I didn't get to see what I was really looking for . The lights: their name, what size, power, where do you get this type of light etc.
This is fantastic. I see you had mentioned that you were possibly looking into selling these. Have you figured out a cost etc? I would be very interested in purchasing, if so.

Very impressive! Would you be interested in providing me with some 3D printed light pieces and catch fence pieces? I really dig your design.
what 3 D printer should one be looking to purchase?
Hi Dermot, Thanks for watching and the question.
This could be a very long reply and at the end, all I can offer is my recommendation.
There are a lot of good printers out there and there is also a lot of junk.
Ask yourself: “What do I want a 3D printer for?”, “What do I want to make?”, “Am I willing to put in the time required to learn this technology?”
Short answer: Prusa MK3S (this is the printer I have used for over a thousand hours)
shop.prusa3d.com/en/51-original-prusa-i3-mk3s
Note: There is a kit version ($749) that you build yourself and will give you a lot of knowledge about how the printer works and there is a pre-assembled version ($999).
Long answer:
I have an advantage of having a fairly extensive background in mechanical design, precision machining, electronics, and computer software but that is not necessary to be successful with 3D printing (although it is very helpful). Patience, practice, and persistence.
I spent months researching and learning about 3D printing before I received my first printer and many more months learning how to use Fusion 360 (CAD program), Simplify3D (slicing program), and how to use the printer itself.
There are a lot of UA-camrs out there that cover nothing but 3D printing and here are some of my top picks that helped me learn about this great technology:
Makers Muse:
ua-cam.com/users/TheMakersMuse
3D Printing Nerd:
ua-cam.com/channels/_7aK9PpYTqt08ERh1MewlQ.html
Thomas Sanladerer:
ua-cam.com/users/ThomasSanladerer
Prusa 3D by Joseph Prusa:
ua-cam.com/users/prusajr
If you’ve never 3D printed before, and all you want is to make the 3D printed parts I have on Thingiverse for the Carrera slot car track then you may want order them from me directly or you can order them from an online printing service (i.e. Shapeways which will charge you 500% more than what I charge).
Feel free to send me an email at: The_Def_J@yahoo.com I will usually get back to you within a day or two.
Be safe and have fun!
Cheers,
Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)
@@garagemakerguy1808 Jeff thank you! I will reach soon.
Just WOW. 👌🏻
Answers to your questions:
1.) Are the 3D printed parts I designed for sale?
They will be soon. I am just trying to figure out a fair price and different purchasing options i.e. 'paint them yourself', different colors, individual pieces or kits, with or without the LEDs, wire, USB housing, etc...
2.) Have I thought about making my support brackets work with the Carrera PVC barrier (I think you're talking about the red and white guard rail stuff from Carrera)?
This is a great idea and I did originally think about doing this. However, the Carrera PVC guard rail/barrier (and pretty much every other available option currently available) only works with flat pieces of track and does not work with banked turns. I wanted a single universal solution for any track piece flat or banked so I designed my own :)
It's funny how the only factory guard rail that worked with banked turns was the "Red Licorice" stuff from Carrera that you can't find anymore and the clips were easy to break and did not stay in place.
Thanks again for the comment.
Cheers,
Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)

Ps....whereabouts are you, I'm in Toronto, Canada
