    It's not too bad for a cheap projector, I expected worse as far as image quality. Good cooling as well by the looks of the heat pipe. Honestly it's kind of amazing how far/cheap this technology has gotten, It's a sign that was have become so good with putting things together that now we can get reasonable outcomes with the bare essential parts.

      I've always had pretty low expectations for projectors in this price range but I'll admit they don't perform half bad once you calibrate the colors (pretty much all of them come way oversaturated from the factory, but luckily allow software adjustment). I'm used to being spoiled by dlp projectors, so when I say this about a cheap lcd projector it's a substantial praise.

    This projector has a native resolution of 800 X 480. It looks pretty impressive if the image is that good with such a low native resolution.

      Given I watch pretty much everything in 1080p now I was surprised that wvga looked as good as it did. Sure it's definitely noticeable that it's not hd, but it's still definitely enjoyable.

    Mine has developed a brown smudge across my screen. So I took it apart and the first glass filter right after the lamp is embedded/burn-in I guess... with a brown spot that is not removable. I can not find a place where I could order one. That glass filter has a subtle grey tinge to it , which looks like it was applied in the factory. It is lighter than what regular glass would be. Any idea what kind of glass I could insert there , and would not get too hot to be dangerous??

    • @sjm4306
      @sjm4306  Рік тому

      Sounds like it's a polarizing filter stuck to the glass. You can buy replacement filters meant for phone displays. You may be able to peel the burnt one off and replace it with the new one. Just be careful not to crack the glass.

      @@sjm4306 thanks for reply, but it is not something that got melted to the glass, but instead the glass itself that got heated up by the emitting light. I tried cleaning it with alcohol and windex ; but no luck. I've had the projector since 2020 june. I re-assembled the unit without that filter; but now I have no signal going to the display screen inside...just the bright light comes on... I may have compromised the very thin wire strip that connects the display to the mother board...LOL time to upgrade to a brighter unit I guess

      What I meant is usually projectors have separate polarizing filters mounted to glass to make replacement easier. The heat over time will damage the polarizing filter layer on top of the glass. Also removing the filter entirely will make the lcd image invisible as the lcd needs the filter to function.

    Thanks for your review. I got gifted one of these and thinking of adding to my "youtube studio space" but do you think I would be able to see it in medium light conditions?

    • @sjm4306
      @sjm4306  3 роки тому

      Under ~35" with medium lighting should be fine. It's better the darker the room is though.

    Good video
    How small can it project?...I wanna use one to project images to sketch out on various size canvasses....

    • @sjm4306
      @sjm4306  4 роки тому +1

      I wouldn't push it much smaller than around 25" diagonal or the image gets out of focus.

    Cool video as always!
    Since I can't find anything online, can you tell me a couple of values?
    I need to know the refresh rate and the maximum keystone angle of this thing; I'm searching something for my flight sim rig which has a short throw distance and runs smoothly without having like 1 whole second of input lag.
    Thanks man.

    • @sjm4306
      @sjm4306  4 роки тому

      The keystone is +/- 15 degrees, and in use allows a bit of adjustment but not quite as much as I had hoped. As for refresh rate looks to be 30fps from the wifi interface (but difficult to tell what the direct wired source to panel latency is with wifi adding a much larger latency), but I'll have to test over hdmi with a 60Hz source to know if it can do 60fps and what the latency is over hdmi.

      @@sjm4306 If you plan to do a testing video, that would be cool! Maybe testing input lag, audio lag among others.

    • @sjm4306
      @sjm4306  4 роки тому

      Might be kind of difficult to quantitatively test lag. I'd have to set up a high speed camera and I guess test using the button register method in a game so I can count frames between a press and the action occurs. Wont be perfectly accurate but should still give a decent idea.

    • @MarcoMazziniYT
      @MarcoMazziniYT 4 роки тому +1

      @@sjm4306 Oh yeah that's what I meant, nothing extreme, just to see the lag between the button press and the Mario jump. I think that outside hardcore fighting gamers we can all tolerate a couple frames of lag.

    Aye I have a bunch of old gameboys, advances, SPs, a color I think some where, and a whole bunch of just electronic stuff that I’m sure an electronic engineer like yourself would find usable, any interest in taking some stuff off my hands and building something cool? I stumble upon your videos all the time and I thought it would be cool to see someone re use something I personally can’t reuse anymore.

      Unfortunately it doesn't have bluetooth so you are stuck with wired speakers via the 3.5mm aux jack.

    I have a 3ds xl with a power light and no backlight on either screen also no sound. I've tried the button resets removing and replacing the wifi card with no success. I've read it could be a lower lcd but I dont know anything for sure would happen to know more. Any advice would be much appreciated.

    • @sjm4306
      @sjm4306  4 роки тому

      When you first try to turn it on do you see either or both screens flash quickly, if so which one? The 3ds will try and flash both screens for any boot fault so that if one of them has an issue it can indicate that for the one that doesn't flash (basically a bad top screen means only the bottom flashes and vice versa).

    How do you go on netflix with this projector?

    • @sjm4306
      @sjm4306  4 роки тому +1

      Your options are to cast from your phone (if the netflix app allows that idk), use a miracast dongle to output hdmi, or hook up a wire over hdmi if your phone supports outputting video via an hdmi dongle.

      Yeah it's no comparison to a high end or even midrange projector but at the pricepoint your options are limited to begin with.
