There still learning English it looks like.
I like Russians
I think it's a little hilarious that so many of these non-native English speakers already use 'like' as a filler word
yeah, that's a bit funny! russians watch english video, series, films, interviews a lot. even if the video has russian subtitles, we still hear an english speach so we just copy it when we speak.
Some of them even said “you know I’m sayin?”! I remember that! 😅
There is a word "типа" in russian and it's the same as "like". Young people overuse it. It's nothing new for them, in my opinion.
I use like in every second phrase and I'm not a native English speaker
Actually it happens naturally, cause we just kinda bring our slang into language when speaking. For example, we have a word 'teepa'(типа) which we use all the time and in English it will be 'like', 'kinda' and 'sort of'. And we have lots of words for 'you know what I'm saying', for example 'ponimaiesh'(понимаешь), 'dogonyaiesh'(догоняешь) and so on. So we kinda just translate our slang.
But the funny thing is we do use lots of your slang (cause we watch eng youtubers, films, shows etc.), but we don't know what slang is considered to be 'black' for example. Or we can mix 'mate' and 'dude' and stuff like that
Oh, btw, some of your slang and usual words we already use as ours, for ex. 'okay', 'lol', 'lmao', 'dead', 'fake', 'fail', 'edition', 'come on', 'fxxk up', 'make up', 'forever' and many-many more. I'm not even mentioning 'fxxk' which we use nearly as often as 'bl**t'

Since English is not my first language, I can truly say that speaking is way harder than expressing your thoughts by writing. It takes a couple of seconds to prepare your phrase, set the words in right order etc. Also it’s about the psychological part while you’re speaking with native speaker, you become kinda nervous about not making mistakes, misspellings and looking stupid in front of him. It comes with practicing and I really enjoy speaking English with others who can understand me
Yes. That's nice. And yes writing English is way easier than speaking.
I am a native english speaker, and I experience that when I speak Russian.
True. Writing easier than speaking
Good for you for trying. I couldn't begin to speak you native language.🇺🇸 I noticed that in this video the Russian people were speaking American English as opposed to British English, albeit with a Russian accent.
Absolutely. When I speak Russian I have to consciously think out the order of words since in English and in Russian the sentence structures are so different.

Hey me too girl it's ok
As a native Russian, who lives in Germany, I could say that the most complicated part is switching of context! It is really hard to switch between different languages if you don't practice it on the every-day basis. I work with people from Germany, Spain and France and I have to switch German and English a lot during the day. But in the beginning it was extremely difficult.
You have my admiration. Being multi lingual is a desirable skill and a social benefit .
Haha nice. Did you ever answer in German when the question was in English and vice versa.
Согласен на 100%. Я сейчас живу в Швейцарии, и мне приходится изучать ежедневно учить немецкий, параллельно изучая английский в школе. If you've studied Russian, you can hear the Russian grammar being formed in their heads as they try to speak English
Very similar to how English speakers try to form Russian in their head with English grammar but we have to twist the grammar around for it to make sense in Russian
True
This is something that my English teacher tried to eradicate
A key difference between Russian and English grammar is that Russian is heavily dependent on word endings (cases and verb endings), but it is possible to shuffle the sentence's word order around very freely; English, on the other hand, relies on word order to mark roles in a sentence and has few grammatical endings (inflectional affixes)
Examples: In English, "The dog bit the cat" ≠ "The cat bit the dog"
In Russian, "Соба́ка укуси́ла кота́" = "Кота́ укуси́ла соба́ка" ≠ "Кот укуси́л соба́ку" = "Соба́ку укуси́л кот" (same meaning as the above phrases)
This is called language interference,i.e when you try to make a sentence by using word order of your native language grammar. We were told about it when I was in my first year at the university ( my major is interpreting and translation)
I'm from Scotland but recently moved to Russia last month. I want Vika to be my best friend thanks lmao

For real😂
Actually it’s hard to estimate the level. When I was studying in new york, before I got a test, and I considered myself as upper intermediate. But according to the test I was sent in proficiency group, cause I knew grammar well. But I had lack of speaking.
Imo these levels does almost nothing.
There are several abilities in any language: reading writing listening speaking. You can have one of them excellent but another not so.
In not native country it’s harder to develop speaking. Other options you can study by yourself.
UA-cam is great thing considering listening.
"hit on" is also an advanced vocabulary.
You're probably not being serious, but people do overestimate the importance of colloquial stuff like that. You can easily learn it from a song or a few cursory conversations on the internet. E.g., I still recall how someone was commended on sounding "near-native" for saying "I did it for the lulz". Nobody talks like that any more, but back then it seemed cool to native speakers. They have no clue.
Funny conclusion if this isn't a joke. Many my cheers and classmates (especially girls on instagram, use "vibe" in every second story although they barely can get "C" at english classes). Forgot to clarify. I live in 50k town in the vicinity of Ukraine.
So yeah, English cultural impact is enormous.

Many people know these specific words of self introduction when learning a second language, even at beginner levels.
Now go to england and ask random people if they speak another language 😂
no it’s not lol
English is probably one of the easiest languages to start speaking basic sentences but extremely difficult to master and be precise with your words.
I've noticed while learning Russian. Their language is very straight forward. Instead of saying "I am a firefighter" they would just say я - пожа́рный = I firefighter. English has a lot of filler, but Russian seems to be more direct and straight forward.
English is also a collection of various languages jammed together. Thats why there are so many stupid rules and exceptions. Truly even a lot of native speakers mess up a lot of proper grammar and definitions
I've discovered the same from learning spanish. Tons of goofy filler words in english. For example "hablas ingles?" = "Do you speak English?". There is no "do" or "does" in spanish. It's unnecessary but it sounds incorrect in English without it.
Same in spanish...."soy (firefighter)" (i am a firefighter)
thats so true, but guys think of german language, additional to filler words we also have dumb things such as articles 😭i speak russian, english and german and german is seriously the most messed up one from those 3.

@@mallory6599 hmm, actually yeah hahah
Damnnnn there all so good at speaking English. I’m trying to learn Russian atm and it’s super fucking hard... :( but I love the language so much.
Also I love the CCCP jacket of the interviewer! Keep it going Товарищ ✊🏽
Thank you haha, glad someone noticed my cool jacket 😎😎
Russian is super beautiful and cool, I just don't have time to actually learn it...
Lilly Modge Omg tbh
It isn't a fair comparison. Russian is considered to be the second hardest language (with Chinese being the most difficult) for a foreigner to learn (and with the quality of our education system - for a native speaker as well), whereas English is one of the most learner-friendly languages in existence (though considered more difficult to learn than German, funnily enough). So don't feel disheartened and keep on learning!
You got this!!! I believe in you!!
I taught English to Russians who came to live in England. I told them to not worry if they thought their English is bad, their English is better than my Russian.
"My name is Vika and I'm a little bit stupid"
Yes,we have that one friend in the group that somehow makes us feel bit more smart than we know😂😂😂
We can practice English speaking
Your page is dope. Never really think ab the Russians but found this really interesting and kind of funny
Same here...
Omg please please ! do more! I will support my part, I never or we barely get to see the Russian perspectives from a UA-camr. Especially one who puts subtitles. ! you're a rarity.
Thanks for these videos
I wanted to visit Russia and hope I can go in the next 8 years before I am too old to travel. I’m 73.
thats wonderful, good luck!!
Удачи!
*sounds of disappointment because I wasn’t there to show off my /useless/ C2 level when they were shooting this vid*

1420 done huh. you had a great start with these videos, love it
Didn't know that B2/C1/C2 scale is applicable to English, I thought it's more about Deutsch.
Eugene Filippov Nah, it’s applicable to most of the languages you can think of. It was not even a German thing initially, I suppose :)
Don’t you think that rating your knowledge of English via C2 is a bit over the top, just to clear it up that would mean that you’re better than a native speaker and that you’re fully capable of teaching english at schools.
Coming to Russia in June to watch Russia v Finland in the Euros!

i love it when they get the tense slightly wrong 🤣 they’re amazing tho
Every single one of them should be very proud of themselves for at least trying to speak English. Its really appreciated when you go to a different country and even say a couple of words. So well done to them for learning some English.

Aw this is awesome to see! Even though it’s broken English it’s still crazy impressive
Speaking a second language is a valuable skill. As an American, at one time I was fairly fluent in Spanish. But if you don't constantly use the skill, you quickly lose the ability. I admire the ability of these folks to speak as well as they do. I sort of love Russians.
Do you love Russians now?
@@whether1548 the people of Russia are suffering because of the decisions of their government. I guarantee you most of them want to just live a life u bothered by war and bullshit. I hate what the Russian government is doing but that has no bearing on its citizens.

Damn, they re all good!!! Ask us Americans to speak a little Russian or any other language and we would fail. Great job!!
They're so good at speaking English! I'm learning chinese at the moment and omhdlsvslwgs it's difficult. Im trying my best though.
Fantastic video!
Am I the only one who's noticed that the interviewer has a Russian accent himself? Not a native speaker for sure
Damn this channel was so innocent back then
"I don't understand what you said......but I teach English in school" what?
he likely mixed up "teach" and "study/learn". I think in some textbooks they often mention "pair words". Like antonyms cold/hot, light/dark and pairs like patient/doctor, teacher/student => teach/study
He meant to learn. It's a typical mistake for Russian native-speakers, there is only one word in Russian language for both these activities.
Currently learning Russian in my spare time, I have to say these people's English is WAY better then my Russian! Very impressive! 👍
