I don't think gatekeeping is inherently bad, my issue with it is how people go at it. In my server for example, most organizers don't ask for gear-links, they ask for proof of completion, meanwhile big PVE companies charge a hefty fee to straight up carry players; this means there's people out there who have no idea of how things are done taking the place of other's who might fare better if given a chance. Of course, those players can always start their own groups, not doing so is entirely their issue. Personally I believe people should tone the gatekeeping down a bit, if we really enjoy this game, it would be wise not to sabotage it, at the end of the day New World isn't the most skill-demanding game out there, taking a noob or two shouldn't jeopardize the run, and if does... then some of those gatekeepers are noobs themselves.
Yeah proof of completion doesn’t mean anything I never understood that. Having a Gorgon token or one weapon doesn’t mean you know what you’re doing - after my first run I had gone through it yeah but mannn I didn’t have a firm grasp of it 😂💀

its not about you, its about what it applies, bow has empowering explosive shot and weaken on poison... its about the group not the individual, in a company gorgon last night i was on rend duty (spear), it does way less damage then me being on rapier/ bow or musket builds but for the group the dmg amp is better.
The fact that you say you outDPS people without seeing what they are doing while also not contributing all the buffs and debuffs that bow users do is why muskets are ignored.

I always described gatekeeping as a spectrum. I find the people requiring people running gorgon to have 710+, and/or only running the bleeding edge of meta (rapier & IG), and/or have the most perfect gear so they can run 5 con, etc. to be rather silly and toxic. I have had numerous successful runs where no one fell into those categories, sure it could have gone faster, but It certainly wasn't needed for success. Some things are fair like asking for trophies and consumables and ~700 GS. But there are levels of absurdity. I find the toxicity tends to be in the really extreme requests. In my eyes it is all about being fair with the request given the content. If its an M1 (or even M2), the bar is lower than gorgon, and of course something like wurm which has very specific needs, that's where it is understandably strict.
On our Valhalla server, those gatekeeper ask 200k gold from 5 people who want to join the Sandworm raid. This group earns 1 million gold per Sandworm raid. This is the ultimate form of gatekeeping. so Toxic
Yeah all MMOs have service sellers. We had people selling worm carries for 200k gold as well on Lilith for a long time. But that same group would also teach for free. Some people just don’t want to teach I guess 😓
How does that make them toxic for charging a fee for a service you can’t otherwise do yourself? You don’t dictate how or what they should do with their time. Some people who offer carry services spend hundreds of thousands of gold min maxing gear, for the entire purpose of carrying.
If you are running mutated Dungeons be sure you are prepared if not people can be tools they will expect you to be perfect even if you are new. I've seen some jerks. I use to be a hardcore raider back in WoW I understand the raiding culture I use to raid more hours than I worked my full time job. some of the way I've seen how toxic New World players have been to people has made me want to play less and less. One mistake and I've seen people get ripped. Can really take the fun out of something that is suppose to be fun. I dont mind gatekeeping to see if people are gearing correctly always bring the player and not the gear. On a side note gearing needs to be a bit simpler I think the Amazon Team has over complicated it you can have too many options and that can confuse a new player. Even good videos on gear can be confusing.
I think it can absolutely be super confusing with all the different build options 😓 I didn’t notice crazy bad toxicity until the NWA update but lately I’ve seen more and more arguing and toxicity especially in random mutations 😭
maybe your server is naive and people on there only ask for enchanted ward and protections. but in my server people ask for token they dont even ask for evade rapier bcuz if you are not rapier user you are kicked immediately. so we are doing 1st timers run on our server. helping people to get their token and gear so they can join other raids too.
Gatekeeping is always a bad thing in games. It means people are okay with just playing the game for the sake of playing which is the result of a bad design.
My server, Nysa EU, there are a couple of guys that run beginner groups for the Hive, Kudos to them to take the time out to teach people. (They do this for free and not a paid for carry raid).
That's what I would love to do, max out and help other newbies. "Be that change you want to see." Unfortunately I just started and am only level 45 with still a lot of the map to discover. 😂
I get wanting your raid group to have decent gear, but it's the people that want you to have the raid token, to join the raid. So unless you find a group specifically running it to learn it, it's like applying for an entry level job that requires experience. Like, I need to do this to get the experience? But again, wanting good gear is one thing, but wanting only well experienced players only is another. At that point just make your own company and run it with them, don't look for a pug.
Yeah I personally have never minded taking learners to anything because once they learn that just means you have more people to play with! So I’d never ask anyone to link the token but I’ve def seen some people doing that 😞 I wonder if it’s a server thing because on my FS server I see that way more than on my legacy server. The entry level job comparison is spot on 😂💀
@AshShleyScape You're one of the good ones. I'm also on a FS server and I see people asking for token more often than not. Granted I have one because my buddy brought me along with his experienced group amd taught me the raid, so I really appreciate people that are willing to take newbies along and show them the way.
Best guy Ive seen on my server: Lfm gorgon (exp players only!). If u die more than 3 times, kicked. Nice example of sb with a very sad life taking Mmos way too serious 😏🤙
nothing wrong with that, they want a fast run and you dying over and over means you dont know the mechanics, essentially slowing the run down, they set the expectations, if you cant fulfill them, dont join.
Know your role and gear according to it. Most range builds arent good for PVE..bows,firestaffs etc are for pvp. If you're a weaken build ,build it correctly weaken build so on and so on. Just throwing pieces together to make a gear score you are only hurting yourself and the group. Perks own gear score if you 650+ score with the right perks there isnt anything you cant breeze through. The company I am in we run everything and haven't not bumrush through it. I want to say maybe 2 or 3 people are over 700. This is a easy game and the machinics are light compared to others.
I’ve been level 65 for quite a while, gear score 715 and yes have been frustrated that gear is locked behind these raids and only 1 gold coconut a week! But the main thing has been not knowing what gear I need. My thought was higher gear score = better but I’m starting to see that’s not exactly the case. It’s been very difficult to tell between really good 650+ gear and not great 700-725 gear. I’ve just not known what to look for and in general, what pieces I should be holding onto or dismantling. Also the thought of spending 2-2.5 hours in one raid is really daunting. And I don’t want to be the one holding back the group. But I also want to continue to progress in the game. Also, I hate pvp. Not interested. I hate that the direction the developers want to go is focusing on pvp. I guess that’s what the majority want? Anyway that’s just some of my thoughts.
Hey! Yeah that’s something I’ve noticed as well and it’s a lot of information to try and figure out without a great guide and 0 guidance from the game. I was actually thinking about making a perk video next. If you can find some of the ones I mentioned for your armor - enchanted ward, refreshing and health / weapon perks - you’ll have a really solid setup! There’s more to it but that’s a good place to start 😊❤️
Simply ask those tryna join “what class are you running?” And then recommend what’s needed to have a successful raid. Straight up send me your loadout is essentially gate keeping.
Sometimes you have to show them what you mean if they don’t want change for the team raid, try have 8-9 strong players let 1-2 players join & show them. 1-2 players might need to be carried a little but they would have a better understanding, also appreciate what was asked & it’s good to show new players (haters) why you asked 😂
The design of these raids is just terrible. There should be difficulty levels with matchmaking. This way, pros could farm in their own groups, optimize their times or profits, while casual players could try their luck with randoms, maybe learn something, and with a bit of luck, even get something valuable. The current system only leads to exclusion. And how is it possible for someone to be kicked from the group at the final boss? Who came up with such nonsense? It doesn’t get more antisocial than this. There should be a rule: after a certain point in the raid, it’s “all in this together.”
I do think overall having different difficulty levels is good because it gives people a good challenge if they want it. I also have never understood kicking people at the final boss of anything. The only time I saw it and agreed with it was when the guy kicked afk’d from the start then followed behind us and refused to help the team 😅💀
@ I’m not trying to accuse you of anything - this is only about the game. But there are many casual players out there for whom it’s just too hard. It would be better to offer a scaled-down version for them. Everyone would benefit from this, as there are tons of ways to make the game appealing for everyone. What about the new Xbox players, for example? Most of them don’t use Discord. Pro players do speedruns, get everything done in two weeks, and then complain on Reddit about how broken PvP is. Casual players, on the other hand, take two months and often enjoy the little things in the game. We need both, and there should be opportunities for everyone in PvE. In PvP, people can have their ego contests. I just don’t want the game to die.
Join a company there are so many that help ppl my company and other help ppl for FREE and then agin if you don't wana join discord or have a build then no one will let u in or kick u especially if u have a bad attitude
Overall, I don't think the "gatekeeping" in New World is as bad as people make it out to be, most servers if not all will have discords attached that'll more often then not have avenues in which you can access the raids by simply signing up after getting a "verified" role that you have the correct gear for your chosen build. I think the people that complain about gate keeping want to run their random build that serves no purpose to the group and honestly thats on them if they dont get invited. It's a very common thing in New World, some content certain weapons and perks provide better utility to the group, however this content isnt ALL your invested time, my advice most of the time to those complaining is, play the build for the content, then go play your own build with your own time, no harm in playing something that gets you the content for a 30min-60min stretch, whether thats war (attack), war (defence), invasions, worm, gorgon, opr or even mutations. We are in a fortunate space with New World where we dont need to level a new character to play multiple builds, we simply change our loadouts, change perks on weapons and blast.
Its normal for people to want efficiency when dealing with their time. Im the same way to a point but i think the onus is on AGS to nake a matchmaking for raid, that entices veterans to run new people through. So its essentially the bonus gold chache from matchmaking for expedition with healers and tanks, but with the raid. The only other option is to not hide your max GS stuff behind something that is fundamentally out of reach for id say the vast majority of the daily players. So an example for expeditions, M1 drops 700, M2 drops 710 and 3 would drop 725. And another easy way to entice players to enjoy the open world is to have rotating world boss attunements, so that a rotation of bosses can drop up to 710 named items but they have a slew of buffs and debuffs attached to them to make them slightly harder to handle. Anyway, thats mostly besides the point here. Ive managed to get into raids a few times in leaner runs but we mever get past the second boss. I dont hold it against anyone for not picking me when they can grab someone whos tried and true with it. There just needs to be an avenue for new players and motivation for veterans besides "being nice"
Hey! They are planning on giving us more ways to make/get max level gear - hopefully they'll be more accessible so people have options and don't feel stuck! I think the different levels of mutations dropping the different tiers would be nice and rewarding for people (also give M2s and M3s more incentive)
How about the folks complaining start their own group, get nowhere, then come back and explain why people want to check gear. It's more toxic to not work on your build and expect to be able to join, than checking gear so you don't get your time wasted. I had a void blade dps say he is "carrying the raid", until I asked why I got aggro and he didn't when the tank died. Freaking dilusional people.
Who checked the gear for the first groups that cleared the raid? They didn't have experience, or the right gear, yet they expect everyone new to the raid to have it now. And that's the main issue.
@@delunk5906 you will literally not get an invite if you don't have the exact gear and spec they are looking for. Newer players will not have that gear within a week. Thanks for proving my point.
Purple gear golding in m10s and m3s is all I can say... Gear checks are crutches for weak groups. SoloEli has proven this time and time again. If he can do the whole m3 alone, your group demanding gear is a sign. If everyone has to be on meta for your raid, you can't play the mechanics. I keep hearing the words "DPS Check" regarding bosses. It's silly. Again, how much damage can a solo do in an M3. Every additional new world raid/expedition starts off the same. People doing gear/weapon checks, only to find later on that no-one knew wth was actually going on, and it's 10x easier than anyone thought it was. Our company at least lets people try, even if they don't have a fully skilled weapon. You can have titz gear, and zero skills, or zero time in the instance, and be an absolute failure. This is why queuing for M3s is painfully long, everyone underscores to get 2s or 1s. . The truth about MMOs gatekeeping, is people don't want to play with people they don't know, so they ask for NPCs that fit their needs. How do you accomplish that? Ask for linked gear/weapons/skill tree etc... Want another evade rapier, request one in chat, healer, tank, etc. Want one that you know has at least seen the entire raid? Ask for an item dropped at the end. . WOW was the absolute worst. I was in raids that kicked people for low DPS, then I felt bad for being associated with that raid. People could just walk up to you, and see what you were all about instantly. There was no mystery about heals or DPS, or who's applying what, it was all displayed on the baggillion stat bars you had to run to keep track of it. . New world, has been the absolute most social mmo (in game) I have ever been on. I never have, and never will link a dayum thing. I have done every piece of end game content with exception of worm, not because I couldn't get into one, but I just never had the drive to be in one. Never been meta, don't think I ever will unless it's by accident. . People are thinking to much. If someone doesn't want to play with you, play with people who do, and fug those guys.
Ultimately yes - if someone doesn’t want to play with you (and you don’t want to change your setup) move on and find people who do there’s always more people 😎 I wouldn’t want to play with anyone who doesn’t want me there anyways 😂💀
Sorry, but when you need to put out a certain amount of DPS (ie Boss 2), have enough survivability, so you DON'T WASTE NINE OTHER PEOPLES TIME, then you will need to deal with it, show your gear and that you know the mechanics. People who whine about gatekeepers need to learn one thing ... Go whine somewhere else. Oh, and for the record, I find it laughable that people whine about how Gorgon and Wurm are blocking them through gatekeeping and yet don't say squat about how companies gatekeep for WARS!
There are a lot of toxic people but there are also a lot of good ones too! I honestly find the most toxic people running random M1s not when I’m in Gorgon 😂💀

I think it can absolutely be super confusing with all the different build options 😓
I didn’t notice crazy bad toxicity until the NWA update but lately I’ve seen more and more arguing and toxicity especially in random mutations 😭
maybe your server is naive and people on there only ask for enchanted ward and protections. but in my server people ask for token they dont even ask for evade rapier bcuz if you are not rapier user you are kicked immediately. so we are doing 1st timers run on our server. helping people to get their token and gear so they can join other raids too.
I wouldn’t say looking for good armor perks is naive 😅 it’s just good practice
Gatekeeping is always a bad thing in games. It means people are okay with just playing the game for the sake of playing which is the result of a bad design.
My server, Nysa EU, there are a couple of guys that run beginner groups for the Hive, Kudos to them to take the time out to teach people. (They do this for free and not a paid for carry raid).
I love that ❤️ I’ve met a group on Maramma that was willing to teach anyone willing to learn with half decent gear and the vibes are unmatched 😎
How to get in touch with them? I have obtained some good gear now but no one is wiling to accept me to the raid if i dont have a set per boss 😢
That's what I would love to do, max out and help other newbies.
"Be that change you want to see."
Unfortunately I just started and am only level 45 with still a lot of the map to discover.
So I’d never ask anyone to link the token but I’ve def seen some people doing that 😞
I wonder if it’s a server thing because on my FS server I see that way more than on my legacy server.
Best guy Ive seen on my server:
Lfm gorgon (exp players only!).
I’d be kicked from that group real fast those corvids and reindeer mobs stay messing me up 🤣💀
I wonder if he dies 3 times and that’s why he set that threshold lol.
Just place raid in lfg finder like expedition and take away power from elites easy fix
Starting your own group is a super valid option 👍🏽
Know your role and gear according to it. Most range builds arent good for PVE..bows,firestaffs etc are for pvp. If you're a weaken build ,build it correctly weaken build so on and so on. Just throwing pieces together to make a gear score you are only hurting yourself and the group. Perks own gear score if you 650+ score with the right perks there isnt anything you cant breeze through. The company I am in we run everything and haven't not bumrush through it. I want to say maybe 2 or 3 people are over 700. This is a easy game and the machinics are light compared to others.
💯
@ nice! Thank you, I look forward to the next video.
Simply ask those tryna join “what class are you running?” And then recommend what’s needed to have a successful raid. Straight up send me your loadout is essentially gate keeping.
What would you do if the majority of the team doesn’t want to run builds recommended for a successful raid?
It's TOXIC AF !
👀
frijoles?
🫘 you’re the only one who’s said frijoles 😎
Join a company there are so many that help ppl my company and other help ppl for FREE and then agin if you don't wana join discord or have a build then no one will let u in or kick u especially if u have a bad attitude
Discord is so great for learning!
Very well said! 😊❤️
I just don't bother. It's not worth worrying about for me. Yeah I'll never have hoplite oh well.
Why do you feel like it’s not worth trying? 😞
@AshShleyScape I don't want to bother anyone. Leave it to the pros, lol
Yeah I couldn’t imagine trying to do end game content if my setup wasn’t at least kind of prepared 😅
Who checked the gear for the first groups that cleared the raid? They didn't have experience, or the right gear, yet they expect everyone new to the raid to have it now. And that's the main issue.
@daniel-ym9un It literally takes 1 week to get geared enough to toast any end game content.
@@daniel-ym9un They figured it out, so we don't have to.
@@delunk5906 you will literally not get an invite if you don't have the exact gear and spec they are looking for. Newer players will not have that gear within a week. Thanks for proving my point.
You don’t gate keep to keep the riff raff out, you gate keep so you can clear early and go to bed.
Amen 😂🙏🏽
Yeah wars are the same 😅 I think maybe people might see wars as something too far gone to care about but idk 😂💀
Quit being passive-aggressive. Literally throwing 50 warning shots at your viewers 😂
It’s fun to have a little laugh 😉
New world is toxic af. Good luck getting pass 704 gs. 80 percent of people in pve are toxic af
There are a lot of toxic people but there are also a lot of good ones too! I honestly find the most toxic people running random M1s not when I’m in Gorgon 😂💀
I can't believe you are a gatekeeping elitist, first the trim cape and now this. smh. 🤦♂
Toxic elitist strikes again 😭😭😭
