      ***** Rape is not a wonderful thing in life, it does "allow men to have their with beautiful women" but that sentence itself proves Rape is wrong sex should not be a way for a man or women to have their way with someone. Sex is a way to show love, Sex is a beautiful thing if there is consent. Rape does not bring peace it does not bring happiness, it brings sadness and pain. Why should we celebrate something that is wrong, why celebrate someone or people taking over someone, why should we celebrate someone who takes away someones rights. We shouldn't celebrate taking advantage a someone, we shouldn't celebrate your stupidity or any ones who think Rape is wonderful thing.

      Rape is not fun, rape is the exact opposite of fun. There is nothing fun about taking advantage of someone, or ignoring her/him saying no.

      +Enlightened Idiot ok you picked the last part of your user name correctly because you whoever the hell you are.. You disgust me. Never think of a women as a tool or a break from whatever you are suffering. I get it. Some men (and women) are desperate, they feel unloved and they want something to prove themselves wrong. Hurting someone else is not going to make them feel better from their own pain. Rape is not a game. It is disgusting.

    This is the same way I feel about poems that talk about racism. I've heard and read critics whine about how contemporary poets are all lamenting the same thing - rape, racism, gender issues, wars, etc. But poets will keep on speaking about all of these until they end. Artists give voices to those unheard.

      *****
      So the poems, the art, the music, the charities, the key speakers, support workers and every other part will keep coming too. None of these things will likely ever end but for every person who can find a way to express and release their pain and help others in return is another small battle won.

      ***** It's attitudes like that that don't get anything done. Yes, it's hard to see an end to discrimination and other issues. It may be far away because these views are so deeply ingrained into people's minds that it'll take many generations of unravelling to change it. But that doesn't mean it can't be helped. Things are happening. Art and music and people are standing up against these views. There are poems like the spoken word in this video. People who want something to be done "I'm tired of hearing rape poems".
      Awareness is key for starting change. Yes, maybe rape and racism isn't going to go away any time soon, but at least with movements and art, people will have the confidence to stand together against the injustices in the world. If someone makes another rape joke or makes another racist comment, maybe people will start calling them out. Telling them it's not right.
      The fight is not for nothing. It is for the better because people can change things. Sitting back and saying 'well that's just the way it is' doesn't help. If you see injustice, it is your duty as a human being to stand against them.

    • @amyc8908
      @amyc8908 10 років тому +10

      Yes, it's unlikely that these things will just go away because some people can't be changed but I think it's important to stop normalising racism, sexism, rape culture etc. To stop saying it's how it's always going to be because that doesn't help. Believing things can be changed is the first step to changing it, in my opinion.

      That was me.
      Oddly, the sexual abuser never did anything in my bedroom.
      I always took the knife out from under my pillow and hid it under the dresser on laundry day.
      I often wonder what the woman who raised me thought when I ran away for good and forgot to take the knife out from under my pillow.

      +Strawburry643725 I had a professor awhile ago that told us that writing poetry is a lot like photography... it can take writing many, many poems to create one that you're proud of, just like it can take a photographer many attempts to take the "perfect shot." You already know how to write poetry, you just need to get out there and write it. :)

    Another rape poem which serves as a reminder that the world needs rape poems and rape poems need listeners so that maybe one day we will stop being so afraid to go out alone at night in our own neighbourhoods or people will stop asking the victim 'what were you wearing?' As if that supposedly explains anything at all about such a heinous and disgusting act was inflicted, insinuating that the victim got what she deserved and rape is justified. It's disgusting, we need rape poetry. amazing poetry, I really liked this one.
