Magic Johnson 1991 Playoffs: Series Highlights vs. Golden State Warriors

- Magic displaying his all-around excellence against the Golden State Warriors. Although he didn't shoot the ball particularly well in these games, Magic still contributed by getting his teammates involved and dominating the boards. This series marked the fourth time that he averaged a triple-double for an entire playoff series (most all-time) in his career. He's one of only five players (Oscar, Wilt, Fat Lever & Kidd being the others) to accomplish this feat in NBA history.
Series Averages: 25.8 ppg, 10 rpg, 12.8 apg, .8 spg, .415% FG, .313% 3P - Спорт
Magic made everything happen for them.. what a player. The highest Bball IQ of any player I've ever seen.
Bird had a better basketball IQ
OSDCrusher LoL.. sure he did.
@@OSDCrusher I'm a Celtics fan but even I gotta call bullshit on your comment. Bird had a great Bball IQ but Magic's court vision was unlike anything I have ever seen in this game. To this day there has been no one as good at the PG position.
@@dociebiemowie915 he only had good court vision because he was 6'9
OSDCrusher Dude stop trolling. Seriously. You’re not making a shred of sense, instead you are proving my point for me. His court vision was great because he was 6’9”? So as long as you are at least 6’9” you have court vision like that? Where are all the other 6’9” players who run the point and have court vision like this? Think about it I’ll wait.
magic is the greatest player ever
Magic has a funky release on his 3. It went in, though! A lot of hard work put in. He, Larry, MJ, JW, Hakeem all worked to expand their games.
he was playing so great before he had to retire
One thing Magic doesn't credit for is that he could score at WILL!! Insane how well he could score especially when he was posting up!
Magics A Beast
That man Magic Johnson was playing like a young man!! Intensity of a young lion....that was until he came across the newer and younger lion of the Pippen and Jordan dual of the Finals that year.
That Run TMC (Tim Hardaway, Mitch Richmond, Chris Mullins) era for the Warriors was a fun team to watch
My goodness that first game, I can't think of a single way he didn't beat the Warriors there. Absolutely MURDERED them.
Simply Incredible
How u average a triple double in 4 playoff series thats unreal.
Tall as a point guard he's scores and rebounds dang.
this is great and rare footage. keep it coming, youre doing good work
He's like the king go passing
Crazy to think Kobe was a rookie just 5 years later.
They only lost cuz worthy and scott got hurt
It's crazy that he played in 9 nba finals
Bulls 3-1 before Worthy and Scott so called hurt
Byron Scott has a history of being so called hurt when he knows the Lakers arent gonna win series
Everyone has and excuse when they lose instead of just taking it like a man
Bulls was gonna beat Lakers in 1991 any way you slice it
Bulls better then Lakers 1991
Jordan the best player in series and Lakers had nobody to stop him
Jordan or Pippen defense could slow Magic down
@@sdawg4834
Its BS and a excuse lol the Lakers couldn't beat Bulls in 1991
Bulls 3-1 series lead before Byron Scott and James Worthy so called hurt
Byron Scott history of faking injuries when he knew Lakers had no shot to win series lol
@@johnnyjust6623 that's a lie sir. If you go look at he last game of the Portland series worthy was limping badly and shouldn't have played. Byron Scott did not have a history of being hurt. As a matter of fact the only time he really got hurt was the 89 finals. They could have won with everyone healthy. Stop it.
@@johnnyjust6623 magic was basically playing 2 against one.
Nice!
Why didn't he do that against Pippin this game was 1991 the same year the bulls beat the Lakers 4 to 1
Probably because Pippen was possibly (and in my opinion is) the greatest defensive swingman in NBA history and the Bulls were one of the greatest defensive teams in NBA history.
Magic averaged 19 points, 8 boards, and 12 assists against the Bulls, so it's not like he had a bad series. In fact other than Vlade he was the only bright spot. But the Lakers were a veteran team that was beat up by the time they got to the finals while the Bulls were young, healthy, athletic, and hungry.
Worthy got hurt (sprained ankle) in the conference finals against the Blazers and although he tried his best wasn't himself in the finals. With Pippen on Magic, he normally would have been able to take advantage of the mismatches that created to score over Jordan or Paxson, but he couldn't. He looked stiff and slow, especially as the series moved to Los Angeles. Meanwhile, Byron Scott had an absolutely terrible series by his standards, and like Worthy couldn't even play in the deciding game 5 after hurting his shoulder.
With Worthy and Scott not playing well, the Bulls focused their defense on forcing Magic to work hard to even get the offense set up because they really weren't scared of any of the other Laker players offensively. Starting in game 2, the Bulls put Pippen on Johnson and basically dared any of the other Lakers to beat them. Nobody else was able to step up and the Bulls basically kept up the same game plan for the rest of the series. Honestly it's impressive that Magic was able to put up the numbers he did with the pressure they put on him.
jordan's skill level is far ahead of lebron and in order to be like magic you need intense concentration
Never force a game 7. Hah!
Too bad these Lakers would move on to the Finals only to lose to Jordan's Bulls in 5 games... but that would give Jordan his first ring anyway, while at that point Magic already had five.
It's a travesty that LeBron is always compared to Jordan when he really should have spent his career thus far trying to be like Magic. It's too bad his Cavalier teams had to rely so much on him to score the basketball.
Magic was A LOT faster than people thought....
Gr8 stuff. Still haven't seen a player like magic to this day
You never will.
Magic avg 21.8 pts per game, avg 8.1 rebounds per game, and 12.6 ast per game during the '91 playoffs.....what an Magical performance throughout the playoffs.Considering who the Lakers were facing during these playoffs.
Oooooohhhhweee!! That scoop shot at 2:12. WOW..... That's MAGIC!
great!!! more magic johnson
Magic avg 26ppg &13apg with 10rpg this series.. SmH what more can 1 man do in a payoff series..
these lakers were way past their primes
and yet they still made the Finals
true but they were dominated by a young Bulls team in the final
Magic Johnson 31 years old
James Worthy 30 years old
So try again you acting like they 40 years old
Jordan won 3 titles ages 33, 34, 35 years old in 1996, 1997, 1998
Magic dominated the 1991 Western Conference Playoffs
glad to see more videos, keem em coming.
91 Magic was like 2020 Lebron
Best iso ball players are Magic, LeBron, and Harden
Ever hear of Kareem Abdul Jabbar? Larry Bird?
Joe Johnson, Kyrie irving, Michael Jordan, Shaq, Kobe, Melo
Kareem and Hakeem were SCARY in iso. The Skyhook and the left block turnaround were pretty much unstoppable. You had to hope they missed. Elvin Hayes high post turnaround. AD rocker J. MJ turnaround right block and dotted line. JW running lefty hook. Magic baby hook. Dr. J baseline drive. Reggie Miller and Rip Hamilton curl and jumpers off the screen. Karl pick and pop. Charles jump stop and power through in the lane. So many!
Upload some recent championship documentaries like 2004, 2005, 2006 & so on please. Great channel!
man i love watching and learning the history of the game
Michael is 6-0 in the finals and won 6 finals MVP!!!
