My Love of Pitbulls never left. Even my dad loved them.
Sir Duke saved my life one day , so I’ve rescued in his honor ever since
Sir Duke is surely honored. Bless you Abundantly, my friend 🙏💌🕊️💟
Oh God, I loved Pete. He was one of the best things about the Little Rascals!
He's a great representation of how gentle pitbulls can be.
My uncle has his granddaughter i promise
He is so cute.............How can you not love that face!
Gucci Goldstein everyone loves Petey. I have a cat named after him.
There's a reason I have had Pit Bulls for over 40 years!♥️
This proves how awesome pit bulls are. They are easy to train because they are very smart dogs. Loyal, gentle and they love to please their owner. They love children too. My sisters and I had a blast growing up with our pitty. I loved my pitbull so much. She was the best thing that ever happened to me.
I love he looks towards the camera / cameraman while his Dad is talking to the camera. Very observant dog. And a real legend of cinema. RIP Petie boy.
Petey was awesome! My favorite movie dog!
He was such a good boy!! What a well behaved dog
He looked terrified really. Compulsion was the mainstay back then. Not exactly a “click-and-treat” culture back then. But he was a good boy.
@@matthewsinger4902 excellent point!
The sweetest and most intelligent dog ever!
Who didn't love Petey?
For those who are not aware, Pete was a Pitbull.
Such great dogs!
Steven Wilson he means that pitbulls are a misunderstood breed
we know.
Duurrr, no shit? .....
Omg
I knew a Bull Mastiff that would take you by the hand playing hide and seek also. Love you Petey. RIP
What a smart dog. It looks like they treated him very well.

I used to just love Petey their dog, he was a pitbull in those days they were beloved pets and sometimes called nanny dogs because they were good with kids and would protect them. Now some are bred for fighting and some have been ruined for being a family pet. Oh for the innocent days...
Pete was a good dog infact the kids on the set really loved him
I guess people weren't all hysterical about the vicious pit bull terriers yet because that is definitely a pit bull.
Pete/Pal was an AKC registered American Pitbull Terrier.
Who cares, you probably own a chihuahua.
There were actually a few Pete the pup dogs that were used by Hal Roach up until 1938 for various different stunts and tricks. The first full time Pete the pup was an American Pitbull Terrier named Pal that had a natural circle almost completely around his eye and Hal Roach used dye to complete it the rest of the way around. Pal passed away in 1930.
The second, slightly smaller and most filmed Petey that appears in the largest majority of total shorts after the original Pete passed, was indeed a Staffordshire Terrier. He is the one that is seen the most. Hal Roach used a permanent dye to replicate the circle of the original Pete to keep the magic of the character alive just as if he had never left.
It's not a vicious breed you dumbass
Wow, what a smart dog Pete was! 🐶😮😍
Pit Bulls are smart and sweet!
mmmm.. not all but yeah some are.
@@josephc981 every pit bull is naturally playful and sweet
Those old times when mentioning the word "pit bull" meant proudness, not fear...
love this love the show grew up watching this on my 13 inch b/w tv
OMG this is so sweet 🥰
Great for publicity. Loved Pete so much. TY for sharing this footage
We have a Pitbulll mix that our son adopted! He has become a loving, and devoted member of our family since!!!
Everyone's so obsessed with breed that people forget to comment on how amazingly well trained this dog is, no one is speculating about what methods were used to train him, and no one is commenting on how well behaved he is (as opposed to those neurotic dogs one meets all the time).
This is great footage. Enjoy!
dear pete:may you ride on Noah's ark all the way to heaven. you will be missed.
Back when people didn't fight and abuse these amazing dogs
I personally think it was around then too but not in the public eye like it is today.
Petey was AKC registered. That makes him an American Staffordshire Terrier.
+Derrick Ryan .... Petey was actually dual registered both UKC and AKC as LUCENAY'S PETER
That is very interesting since AKC did not even recognize the breed Am Staff Terrier until the 1960s.
AKC recognized the AmStaff in 1936
Derrick Ryan back in those days the American pit bull terrier and amstaffs were the same breed. Petey was dual registered as a pit bull by the UKC and as an amstaff by the AKC. The reason is the AKC wanted to remove itself from dog fighting, a legal popular sport at the time.
Cathie Asti petey was a Colby pit bull, the oldest purest pit bloodline in the US. Petey was dual registered by the UKC as an American pit bull terrier and by the AKC as an amstaff who was trying to remove itself from dog fighting which was popular and legal at the time. Both amstaffs and APBT were the same dog back then, but over time the amstaff breed has been corrupted for the sake of dog shows (looks) while the APBT has remained unchanged and looks like he did 500 years ago. Speculation is tha mastiff was added to the amstaff to give it a bigger head and more square look. The so called "blue nose' pit bulls are actually amstaffs, whose blue or grey color comes from mastiff which was a popular color back in the 1800s.
Precisely! Cesar Milan had an article on his site saying the same thing. It says back in the 1980's, as the breed became popular as a guard dog, backyard breeders started breeding specifically for aggression. The pit of today may or may not be the friendly pit of yesteryear, because many lines have been ruined by bad breeding.
Brilliant post many thanks!!!
I remember Pete, loved him 😂
Pit bulls were considered very gentle family dogs long ago. They still are.
Wow! I'm impressed. My favorite actor.
So I guess Pete the pup coined the phrase " For Pete's Sake " 😉
Why the 31 thumbs down? Don't blame an entire breed for the ignorance, evil, and heartlessness of man"kind" :(
Wish I had a pooch like Petey
I love this clip. This shows the true nature of APBTs, sweet, playful and intelligent
Really cool seeing this footage.
Still love to watch them today.
THE BEST MOVIE DOG EVER!
very smart and passive. awesome kid dogs...let time prove this breeds worth ^^^^ Pete is a perfect example of what this breed is capable of ...being amazing! :)
Oh noes... a Dangerous pitbull
Oh I know he ferocious! lol!!
Travis Decker this dog is about 100 inbred generations removed from the modern pitbulls that so commonly meme passers by in the modern age. get a grip.
awesome!! made my day watching this!
My two favorite movie dogs from the 1920s are Pete the Pup from The Little Rascals and Luke the dog who was in Fatty Arbuckle's movies.
OK just to clear a few things up,...petey was a pit bull,...the American Staffordshire Terrier and American Pit Bull Terrier at the time of this film were one and the same breed...except the UKC recognized the breed as American Pit Bull Terrier and the AKC recognized it as American Staffordshire Terrier as a matter if fact in the twenty's and thirty's there where many duel registered dogs...petey was one of them,..also the dog used in 1994 was an American Bulldog
Pitbulls are the best!
@joeluis98 There were different Petes used throughout the series. The first Pete had the circle on the right eye. The second Pete (who came in after the first one passed on in 1930) is the one we're seeing here. He had the circle on the left eye. The third Pete came in after Pete # 2 retired in 1932. He had the circle on the right eye.
Everyone loved Pete the Pup!
Such a sweet baby!
My favorite Pit Bull!!
Awe love Petie ❤
So adorable
Amstaff actor Pete. Good work.
oh my gosh, i just loved Petey! he was the best and funniest dog there ever was! i miss him. when i was in high school, yes, high school. the little rascals was on from 3-4. well i would walk very fast from school, and i would catch the last 1/2 of the first episode, and the whole second one. i swear that is what i did my whole ? junior year....love that show. never saw the movie, ever it is not the same...not even close! Petey, and ??? whats that kids name, ahhh brain fart...well they were my favorite characters...
Stymie, ha and Petey were my all time faves....xoxoxo
It just goes to show how much this pitbull terrier luved those kids.
i never knew dogs could understand the concept of left and right idk why thats blowing my mind right now
Good 'ol Petey!
Love you Petey ❤
sad to find out that this show dog was poisoned and died. Very sad indeed.
Not true. Pete lived to an old age and died of natural causes. These stories get around, die out and then show up again.
no he wasnt i just looked it up. the original died of old age related issues.
The father, "Pal", was poisoned. "Pete" and subsequent offspring, took over the role.
is there a story behind why the dog was poisoned
Europa H2O Alien I read that the first Pete (Pal) was poisoned and only lived for six years and one of his offspring was used as Pete and he lived for 17 years. You’re telling people not to believe everything they read on a smartphone, then how did you get your information?
Pete the pup rocks!!
Now that's a good boy!
his made me happy
This
Spanky, Alfalfa, Stimie, Porky and Buckwheat and all the rest of the Our Gang actors were friends to me. Everyday I would tune in to visit with my friends and see what kind of adventure they'd get involved with.
I love him!
Nice Bully Breed Dog!
I would say AMERICAN BULLDOG.
But they used several different dogs, and many of these "bully breeds" are so similar. Important thing is how well this guy behaved and how he was easily trained!!! He should be a "good dog poster child" for when people say the breed/s are impossible / no good. I do admit, there are bad / evil dogs out there. Seems some humans make them that way.....
235chuck He was 100 percent American Pit Bull Terrier/American Staffordshire Terrier, and yes, you are right in that they used several different dogs over the entire period of filming Little Rascals.
BTW, there was no such dog recognized as American Bulldog during that time.
+235chuck American Bulldogs had not been developed/recognised at that time.
He was a Pit, not American Bulldog. They only used 2 dogs. This one for most of the years and then a 2nd.
loooove petie!
A very smart good boy 👍
Pete stymie and spanky the best team ever!
I love petie
1:15 playing in the background "Good morning Glory"!
😍😍😍😍 miss him :(
Hey! That's my great granpappy!!!
Part Pit Bull, Petey is a great example that they are not bad dogs.....
Smart Dog
RIP my little dog
what bloodline was pete from?
Even as a big fan of Our Gang, it is a wonder at least who the real Pal the Dog, and Petey the Pup were. One has thew ring on the right side, and the other, other one has it on the other side. It doesn't matter. It was still Petey !. Look up the short called " when the wind blows " Utter classic, and hilarious....
I miss ol' Pete :(
Awwwwwwwwwwww sweet dog
@AcrossTheBIGPond The dog in this clip was not the original petey. The original petey was named pal the wonder dog, and he was out of Earl Tudors Black Jack. And this petey and the original petey were both american pitbull terriers. The breed wasn't separated between american staffordshire terrier and the american pitbull terrier until 1936.
The original from 1922 to 1930 was a Staffordshire terrier. He was poisoned by someone who had beef with Mr. Laceney. After that it was American pitbulls. Something like that.
he's sooo obedient
beautiful pit bull
petey is so cute! 🐶
Looks like my razors edge dog Max. R.I.P...
No treats for performing?
Treats are not always needed for training dogs appreciate simple loving praise.
RIP Pete.
Long may you run
sweet Pete
I liked him .he was a cutie
I remembered they featured this dog in Ripley's.. the ring was considered an oddity.. for tv.. they filled in the ring on his fur with ink .. I thought that was pretty cool
was the ring around eye painted on or natural I wonder?
Paul Warner majority of the ring was about half lets say and they filled in the rest
The first Pete was poisoned in 1930
Pete the pup- 1922- 1965
yeeeah man, I always recognize Colby's pits. Amazing dogman, amazing dogs
That voice over guy sounds like a stereotypical 1930s narrator, it's like a modern video trying to be 1930s
Very intelligent dog #😀
My pitbull looks just like him.. Like seriously reincarnated!🐶
Pete was great.
What a smart and beautiful animal !!!!
Rip pete
