On the sky sports youtube highlights they always just flash over any contentious decisions, it's weird. The Diaz offside was shown once at normal speed and then the slow motion replay was shown right up until the point where it should pause and show the evidence and then it's like "nothing to see here, moving on"

I strongly believe when it is found that a VAR/referee mistake that results in the gain/loss of a goal, said goal should be rescinded or given back whether it be during or after a game.. Same goes for cards that were improperly given/not given.
Said for ages that a cricket style DRS is the way to go, each team has 2 appeals per game to then be referred and reviewed 'upstairs'. It would stop teams legitimately feeling hard done by if it's the players who get to choose what is looked at instead of the official

VAR technician here. For context i dont work for the VAR , am with the production crews and am responsible for setting up the VAR in the stadiums and the referee's communications. All decisions that have anything to do with the VAR happen directly in the said country's HQ , either the FA HQ or the League's HQ , by authorized referees specificly selected by the continents federation so for europe its UEFA .For some more context while working there is 2 of us , 1 in the stadium and one back in the van , the guy in the van can listen to all referees (thats in case comms go down and we need to get them back up). Now here is the interesting part , the VAR does not i repeat it does NOT assist the referee's decisions , they can either overrule or dispute of a decision that was made by comms prior to any actuall decision being given. In simple words the ref on the field might be right but while he is talking with the other refs he gets called to the VAR were the refs in the HQ can either validate his desicion , overrule to one of their own or most commonly refs argue and what usually happens is that the decision with the least consiquences to the match gets selected (that usually happens for fouls were cameras dont catch all the angles) in order to avoid backlash. Yes for those who dont know 80% of the time its not the ref on the field who requests a VAR but the refs of the HQ who request the on field ref to come to the VAR , and for even more context that doesnt happen because they want to make a correct decision it happens because if they dont a club may be eligable to sent them to court for not doing due diligence over every situation. In simpler words atleast from what i know and have been told by people who work here before VAR was a thing VAR was mainly created to avoid legal troubles , not to assists with Refs on field , if that was the case the refs could go to the production crew and see replays from about 10-12 diffrent camera angles and make the decision themselves without having another 3-7 people more in their ear arguing.

But the officers are there for a good reason.! At least now a days, there are training for the commander to be as a part of group to fly the air plane., then they can avoid so many accidents . It just goes to show that even though we have the technology and computing to help solve problems such as determining offsides with accuracy, human error will always be an uncontrollable risk of uncertainty. Just like there is in natural sciences such as Chemistry and Physics.
Ok I get that it would be unprecedented but when the organisation that governs the all the referees in the league have conceded that it was an obvious and fatal error not to allow the goal, what is stopping the premier league from awarding the goal in hindsight? Just employ a committee of unbiased professional referees to take a look at the decision and decide whether to overturn it or not. It would surely reduce the impact of human error in the game.

I think that VAR is one of the best things introduced to football in years but something has to change.Going back to the World Cup in Russia the reason for VAR working so we’ll is that the ref would go to the monitor(if it was a decision as big as the Diaz goal vs Spurs)and make the decision himself.This is what we need to see more of in the premier league.

I had no idea about that statement from Mike Dean not calling the referee to the screen for the Cucurella penalty. That is INSANE. That is OUTRAGEOUS. That is EXTREMELY serious and concerning. Like, how can anyone trust any referee after that?! That man needs to be severely punished for that.
Speaking of being severely punished, that's what should happen to the entire refereeing team that officiated Tottenham-Liverpool. Those guys can never work on a football match ever again and need to be punished in whatever way is best. That was one of the worst performances by a refereeing team I have ever witnessed. Liverpool were completely robbed. It was so bad that it makes one think of shenanigans going on.

This incident remind me of many air crash. The pilot(commander) often ignores the second or third officer’s advice or corrections. You can imagine how they are easily intimidated . But the officers are there for a good reason.! At least now a days, there are training for the commander to be as a part of group to fly the air plane., then they can avoid so many accidents . Nobody wants challenge an authority but unfortunately it results to unnecessary accidents. The mistakes of ref and a VAR in football doesn’t kill anyone but ref. and VAR should take time to assess the situation and they must all agree to a conclusion.
now they've released the audio, it's a lot more understandable and was clearly just a miscommunication brought about by the VAR not paying proper attention. They realized the mistake pretty quickly but weren't allowed to correct it because the game was restarted. Argument the VAR did it with malice but seems more like incompetence

every once in a while, sure. but when it gets too often you gotta something about it before it's too late. Also, it's more than just miscommunication, especially when you know this is how they communicate week in week out.
they were allowed to stop it, it has happened before, and the assistant var, and 4th official both said to delay/stop the game, but the ref on var was so caught up in covering his ass, he just said he can't do anything

As a Tottenham supporter, I must say, we definitely didn't deserve the win! Yes we played well, but the mistakes from the referees just ruined an amazing performance by Liverpool that could've possibly seen Liverpool win the game!

It just goes to show that even though we have the technology and computing to help solve problems such as determining offsides with accuracy, human error will always be an uncontrollable risk of uncertainty. Just like there is in natural sciences such as Chemistry and Physics.
Ok I get that it would be unprecedented but when the organisation that governs the all the referees in the league have conceded that it was an obvious and fatal error not to allow the goal, what is stopping the premier league from awarding the goal in hindsight? Just employ a committee of unbiased professional referees to take a look at the decision and decide whether to overturn it or not. It would surely reduce the impact of human error in the game.
Instead of just 1 VAR team there should be 3 who then vote on the outcome with the majority vote being used

I think that VAR is one of the best things introduced to football in years but something has to change.Going back to the World Cup in Russia the reason for VAR working so we’ll is that the ref would go to the monitor(if it was a decision as big as the Diaz goal vs Spurs)and make the decision himself.This is what we need to see more of in the premier league.
This is the argument I have had on twitter. VAR was supposed to reduce/remove human error and not supposed to add an extra area where human error can occur. Kompany explaining ref’s make mistakes we should forgive them, makes no sense.
