Something that a lot of people don't give the Henson company credit for is the fact that all their puppets never look uncanny or creepy. That's the type of vibe I got from the show through this video
With the Muppets, yes. With them, Jim Henson completely mastered the art of modern, non-uncanny valley puppetry. The Creature Shop stuff, on the other hand, is a whole different ball game. Just look at the Skeksis from The Dark Crystal in comparison!
@@AnimeGames16 I disagree to a minor degree- Skeksis were after all, intended to be scary 100% and with exception of the Emperor who dies in the first act, and the scientist, who is part cyborg, I would not call anyone 'uncanny', just creepy in a cool, menacing, intentional threatening way, they are very amazing puppets which for such a unique design, bear a striking amount of 'life' and personality in their faces. The emperor is supposed to be nearly dead, so it made sense for him to have that doll-like terrifying blank stare into the distance, while the scientist is probably supposed to the scariest one of all. The real culprit of Uncanny Valley syndrome, in my opinion in the Dark Crystal, would be the Gelflings, who are supposed to be the elf-like cute heroes, but have strangely the least expressive features, and their eyes hardly ever blink or change shape. They resemble stiff wooden dolls to me, where as the Skeksis have a lot more expressive movements in not just their facial structure, but their hands and body movements are extravagant and theatrical. There are many other Creature Shop puppets which are pretty awful in terms of Uncanny Valley factor. A lot are minor one shot puppets from tv specials or other children's shows.
@@avosmash2121 I totally agree with you on that actually! I guess I was just using the Skeksis as examples of notoriously creepy Creature Shop puppets, not entirely grasping the definition of uncanny valley.

Is there room in this sandbox for two? I loved this show as a kid as well! I remember the slightly darker-toned episodes and really enjoyed the slightly dreamlike creepiness. That bit's stuck with me since childhood, and I always think of it whenever I go someplace like the DMV.

honestly hearing these after so long put a tear in my eye. I remember watching this with my great grandmother and baking with her. it was so much fun. Well primarily the season 2 stuff. to be specific the cleaning one, indoor picnic and Terrence's birthday. I even once made a cake similar to that for my grandmother with my great grandmother.
i have such strong memories of the season two hello and goodbye songs. i had the dvds and i would watch them when i was a kid, they helped me through a rough time and gave me good memories even though there was bad.

Here are some good shows to be done for DefunctTV Fetch! With Ruff Ruffman Blues Clues Zoom Clifford The Big Red Dog The Magic School Bus Bill Nye The Science Guy
Do you think you could potentially make an episode covering Blue's Clues? That show was a major staple of my childhood, and, while it isnt going to be defunct for any longer, with the new show airing soon, it didn't have any new episodes for a very long time, but the show was so popular that they brought it back so many times, with the 10th anniversary episode, that live Nickelodeon music show, there were so many things that were made because of the sheer amazingness and staying power of the show. I think it could be a good example of a show that was so popular, that even when the show was taken off the air, and Nickelodeon wanted to try to move away from it, the fans made it so that this show could never go defunct.
An 'early Nick Jr.' episode as an overview would be fun. Partially because I swore Tintin was on that early block, but I had completely forgotten about the Nelvana cartoon until the 2011 movie adaptation came out and it brought back my memories of the show.
Brevin mime too. I’d love to see an episode on that, especially since it’s getting a reboot called blues clues and you. Also, how did you feel about them making her talk?
Aw I remember this show. I don't remember ever seeing the first season, but I do remember regularly watching the second season when it aired. My favorite part of the program was the transition effect when the Cat would look through the Wubuloscope. Whenever my family would go eat at our local McDonald's, back when most of them used to have indoor play places, I would pretend that the big tube slide was the Wubuloscope and hum that tune in my head as I was sliding down it. That was back when I was 4 . . . now I'm 24 . . . Good God I'm Old!

Maybe it might involve more Dr. Seuss material as well. I don’t know how you could make a show just on a book that was made on bet on how little words can be used in said book.
Season 2 is the season that I remember the most. I remember the set design for Cat in the Hat’s lobby, the giant telescope and the map. When it comes to season 1, I have a vivid memory of the Grinch’s face in the intro, along with his evil laugh
i grew up with 3 eps on dvd, and only just found out it was not only a real thing, but also 8-10 years old when i was watching it... gonna have to refind that dvd
I still remember getting a VHS tape of a collection of episodes of this show from my late Uncle Roger. I also remember absolutely loving it, since I grew up on Sesame Street and was obsessive with Dr. Seuss. To this day, I still occasionally use the word "Wubbulous" just to confuse people. Thank you for this video, it really took me way back!
I loved this show as a kid, I wasn't born when it aired but I remember having the second season on DVD. I was confused with the first season's design since apparently I was familiar with the season 2 layout. It felt good seeing this :)
Ok, this is actually starting to get weird. I was just thinking about this show and if you guys made a Defunctland TV video on it, and here it is. STOP SCARING ME!!! 😂
Thank you Kevin for another amazing video of DefunctTV. Dr. Seuss is one of my personal heroes and has inspired a lot of my wacky humor. As for the show itself, having The Jim Henson Company make a show about Seuss was a perfect match as Muppets and Seuss have many similarities. Also, thank you for using clips from In Search of Dr. Seuss. I thought I was the only one who remembered that documentary.
THIS SHOW WAS MY CHILDHOOD!!!!!! I'm so glad it hasn't been forgotten! I still have my DVD that had several season 2 episodes. I distinctly remember seeing the season one intro, though, so maybe it was a mix of different seasons?
I speak for Harambe, I speak for SpongeBob, I speak for tea lizard (though he's actually a frog) The memes want us to laugh in the face our messes, And look at fools and say, "But that's none of my business".
I am not the only kid who watched this, this show always scared me especially the episodes with the Grinch he always got me with his weird evil smile and his gross yellow eyes I still watched it though. And didn't Netflix had this show on it
So, in case nobody died of pure childhood memories, here's the list of DefunctTV episodes in order... 1: Bear in the Big Blue House 2: Legends of the Hidden Temple 3: Zoboomafoo 4: Between the Lions 5: The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss(The subject of this video.) I don't know about you guys, but I actually grew up with 60% of these shows on a personal level. If that doesn't display how many of my feelings come back to me, then I don't know what else could.
Actually, what I meant to say was that, so far in the series, I have contracted 60% nostalgia, rather than the implied 40%. However, this might drastically change if "The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh" or "Dragon Tales" get episodes in the future. Whether it's for better or for worse is up for debate.
Big Comfy Couch was one of those shows I watched all the time as a small kid, that and Blues Clues were probably the ones I watched and then played the most. and Dragon Tales will always be a favorite from when I was a bit older. randomly get it's theme song stuck in my head out of nowhere at times.
Ever since seeing that hard work and passion that was put into the Jim Henson videos I can honestly say that this is one of the Best Channels on UA-cam.
OHHHH my god. I have a Wubbulous World DVD somewhere packed away. We bought it for my cousin when he was a little kid. He would watch ten minutes and walk away. Before I knew it, my mom and I would be watching the whole thing while my cousin played with his toys. I never thought I’d see a video on this! Love it.
Aahh memories! 😊 I still have my old Wubbulous DVD from when I was little. It contained episodes from both seasons and I loved it a lot. Heck, my older sister and I still shout out "BATULLA BATULLA" to this day. 😂
Everything on this channel is pure gold. The incredible production value and entertainment these provide is beyond me. Keep up your absolutely amazing work
Fantastic video! You always do a phenomenal job of covering every aspect of each show or whatever it is that you happen to be covering. Have you ever considered making an episode on The Book of Pooh?
Man. Got an ad right after one of the opening sequences. It flowed so seemlessly from the puppets to some Saving Private Ryan themed game I was like "I don't remember that Dr. Seuss book"
Hey Kevin! I'm a fan from Brazil, and as english is not my native language, I think you could let people contribute with captions, so it's going to be better for foreign people to watch. Keep this nice work!
There is this one show that I forgot the name of but would be a great DefunctTV episode. All I remember is that there were multiple people dressed in colored costumes, each character a different color. Every episode the characters tried to find the character named Moe, a yellow or green person that said, “Here I am!” He is the only character that I remember the name of. Also, I remember seeing an animated reboot of the show (like Wild Kratts). I saw the show in the early 2010’s, I think. Since the animated version looked more polished than the original, I am pretty sure that the live action show is canceled. I’m pretty sure this show aired on Noggin, but I am not 100% sure about it. If anyone can remember the show name, then that would be great.
i had the same memory for the longest time and i thought i had just dreamed it until my friend said she said she remembered it too. its called the doodlebops i beleive.
@PikaPlayer Gaming That sounds a lot like The Wiggles. A show where four male characters dressed in red, green, blue, and purple respectively. Their costumes weren't really that special, just plain matching shirt, and pants. The show would be them doing random things, losing Jeff (the guy in purple) and singing about it, finding him, and sometimes signing "hot potato, cold spaghetti" . Does this ring any bells?
I WORSHIPPED this show and own both seasons on dvd. The one episode I watched on repeat was the indoor picnic because to my 3 year old brain watching puppets smear paint onto craft foam was absolutely thrilling
I remember watching this as a kid as something I rented back in the early mid-2000's on either VHS or DVD. It had either just one or 2 episodes, maybe 3, on it and I remember kinda liking it. I had thought it was kinda strange seeing the Dr. Seuss characters in Muppet form. So far, so good. I'm loving this series. So far it's all been stuff from my childhood. I hope you do some other children shows I watched as a kid, such as The Big Comfy Couch, Wimzie's House, The Noddy Shop, and maybe The Toy Castle.
I saw the Seussical live back in the day. Starring Aaron Carter for some reason. I only remember two things about it: 1. That it mostly involved Horton Hears a Who and the Better Butter Battle, and 2. and there was a gag right before Intermission where the curtain fell during the final note, and then fell completely to the stage. That was my favorite part of the musical.
I used to read Dr. Seuss books when I was young! They were so fun to be read by everyone! There were rhymes in every page in a book to be read by kids of a young age! The ending was effective with great "wubbulatastic" perspective!
I was born in 04 and you just unlocked parts of my memory ! I vividly remember the entire second season of the wubbulous world, especially the sequence when looking through the telescope. I feel old 💔
You know even though dr.seuss never had children he some how did through his books. Like he secretly knew that even though he would not have children he some how would through his books and despite not liscencing his characters he knew that these characters will have to live on after his death and that much like with the shorts adaptations of his books he knew the books would one day be adaptated again but for a bigger screen and with some small to big differences from his original stories. In other words he was some how ahead of Hollywood and his own company beyond his books.
I had a first season episode on a Jim Henson DVD, which when I got older, I had vague memories of it, including memories of dreams after watching it to sleep, and after I found the case, it didn't have a DVD inside, and when I found the disc in a DVD zip-up thing. It was scratched up, but I didn't figure this out until it froze and glitched out after the Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss ended. It was protected from breaking by a DVD in front of it called Noah's Ark, which is broken in three seperate pieces now. With all that said, this video left me happy to see the Wubbulous world again.
And Eureka's Castle! I've heard that some of the folx that worked on one show, went on to work on the other. Kinda like how Bear from Bear in the Big Blue House, was originally Magellan from Eureka's Castle!
One of the comments reminded me of the kids show Doodlebops. IDK much about it, but that could be a good idea for another Defunct video if its history is interesting enough.
I remember getting this on Easter at age 6. I watched it heavily, I love the puppet stuff like this. I thought this was a straight to DVD show, it's cool to learn that it ran on Nickelodeon.
I have been watching the show and... I think that the first season holds up better as a family show and a faithful representation of Geisel's work because he can be dark when he needs to!
i had the wubbulous world season 1 on dvd and i honestly thought i was the only one who remembered it. my older sister put nail polish on it because she hated me and wanted me to cry. i used to play the dvd in the xbox 360. i am 15 now btw. jesus christ- i feel weird now
I only saw like five episodes of bear in the big blue house when it was on air. And it has never left my mind. Nothing compares to it. Nothing can, maybe wont ever again.

@@zbroadcast3414 Nope, Apperently Sam and the other dude are on thr run
they’re making a WHAT now
Season 2 is the season that I remember the most. I remember the set design for Cat in the Hat’s lobby, the giant telescope and the map. When it comes to season 1, I have a vivid memory of the Grinch’s face in the intro, along with his evil laugh
Despite not growing up with this show, I still feel like this was an important part of my childhood and I don't know why, which is disturbing to me.
I remember watching this all the time on Netflix. It was a great show.
Same
My oldest use to watch it on Netflix he loved it as a toddler
Superstar Candy I grew up with this show and I still love it! It was one of my absolute favorites.
In its day, they aired it on Nickelodeon in prime time. They aired a Nick Jr. show in the wrong time slot.
i grew up with 3 eps on dvd, and only just found out it was not only a real thing, but also 8-10 years old when i was watching it... gonna have to refind that dvd
So very well done!! You have a talent in making engaging content.
I literally was thinking about this show a day before this came out, what are the chances.
What the heck, I was as well???
I just look for this show a week ago to see if it was real or not i am so glad it was
I WAS TOO
I still remember getting a VHS tape of a collection of episodes of this show from my late Uncle Roger.
Same. I’m pretty sure I randomly remembered this show yesterday.
This series is my absolute favorite thing ever thank you so much!
THIS SHOW WAS MY CHILDHOOD!!!!!! I'm so glad it hasn't been forgotten! I still have my DVD that had several season 2 episodes. I distinctly remember seeing the season one intro, though, so maybe it was a mix of different seasons?
This show has no fanbase? *Let's make one*
Welcome to The Internet, where it is a rule that EVERYTHING has a fanbase, and if it doesn't it will soon be made.
An old cancelled show! I'LL FANBASE IT! *NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW!!!!*
With blackjack and hookers.
I AM the fan base

Looks like you're in the Dr. Seuss spirit, it seems.

And look at fools and say, "But that's none of my business".

Thank you for the ♥️, Defunctland
I am not the only kid who watched this, this show always scared me especially the episodes with the Grinch he always got me with his weird evil smile and his gross yellow eyes I still watched it though.
And didn't Netflix had this show on it
I really want that grinch puppet
I wan't the turtle puppet.

I would like Sam-I-Am or Horton! Maybe we can do replicas!
Can you please do any episode featuring The Busy World of Richard Scarry? I think it'd fit nicely in this series.
This series is so nostalgic to me. I remember watching it nearly everyday on dvd.
This and "Allegra's Window" had some solid puppetry. Now can we get a defuncTV on Adventures in Wonderland?
Well that's my fever dream show, Alongside eureka's castle.
Both were quite rather underrated, too.
So, in case nobody died of pure childhood memories, here's the list of DefunctTV episodes in order...
1: Bear in the Big Blue House
2: Legends of the Hidden Temple
3: Zoboomafoo
4: Between the Lions
5: The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss(The subject of this video.)
I don't know about you guys, but I actually grew up with 60% of these shows on a personal level. If that doesn't display how many of my feelings come back to me, then I don't know what else could.
What is the 40% of childhood nostalgia.
Will Dragontales or Big Comfy Couch be next? :D
Holy shit I remember Dragontales
"With Loonette and Molly, a girl and her dolly, on the big comfy couch!" Still trying to do the damn clock stretch!
Big Comfy Couch was one of those shows I watched all the time as a small kid, that and Blues Clues were probably the ones I watched and then played the most. and Dragon Tales will always be a favorite from when I was a bit older. randomly get it's theme song stuck in my head out of nowhere at times.
I really want an episode on Big Comfy Couch!
Oh my God big comfy couch was my jam at age 3
Ever since seeing that hard work and passion that was put into the Jim Henson videos I can honestly say that this is one of the Best Channels on UA-cam.
THIS is how you should pay tribute to Dr. Seuss, Universal.
Thank you so much! I legit grew up on this show.
Bonus points for using footage from that "In Search of Dr. Seuss" movie. If you're a Seuss fan, that's a must-see.
i have that on DVD with a few other animated shorts! I should pull it out and watch it again..
I still have my old Wubbulous DVD from when I was little.
Rachel Ross that would be interesting. I used to watch that show when it was on, and I had a few episodes on VHS. I wonder why the show was canceled.
Man. Got an ad right after one of the opening sequences. It flowed so seemlessly from the puppets to some Saving Private Ryan themed game I was like "I don't remember that Dr. Seuss book"
the butter battle reboot looks great
4:11 Sid the Science Kid before he had his own show
I noticed that the Lorax never appeared in the series.
Garth Davis same here!!
I think that yellow creature in the season one opening was the lorax
KamenCJ no it wasn’t.
@@georgerobertson7010 I think it was it looked like an altered version
KamenCJ no it was Alvin the alien, he’s a completely original character
Hey Kevin! I'm a fan from Brazil, and as english is not my native language, I think you could let people contribute with captions, so it's going to be better for foreign people to watch. Keep this nice work!
I had a DVD for this series. I can still vaguely remember the premises and episodes, it’s nice to remember the past every now and then
DALEJRFAN88 (: did it have the big red thumper bumper
The Otter Animator I dunno its all a blur
Sometimes it's best to forget.
I knew I wasn’t the only person to remember this!!!
I've only seen 1 episode when I was younger
Doodlebops?
i had the same memory for the longest time and i thought i had just dreamed it until my friend said she said she remembered it too. its called the doodlebops i beleive.
@PikaPlayer Gaming
That sounds a lot like The Wiggles.
@@thepuzzlemaster64 no its the doodlebops I doubt any of the wiggles are named Moe
Holy shit I remember that. I'm 90% sure that that was a British Kids show that was on Time Warner Cable's On Demand. That's how I saw it, at least.
I WORSHIPPED this show and own both seasons on dvd. The one episode I watched on repeat was the indoor picnic because to my 3 year old brain watching puppets smear paint onto craft foam was absolutely thrilling
I loved the tunnel you always went through in the show. The sets were my favorite part of the show as a kid.
Please do Gullah, Gullah Island next!
Man I remember renting these on VHS from my local library when I was a little kid. This’ll always hold a special place in my heart, so nostalgic.
The description of The Cat In The Hat as a trickster god is shocking, yet accurate. A bold move from you, DefunctTV.

It was a FUCKING crime that they didn't include the Lorax, i actually falsely remember him being in the show

I did this musical in high school! :D
@@SEGASister I'm *doing* this musical this year in high school!
Cutest show ever!!!! How could anyone dislike this adaptation of Suess?
elflvr04 I love this show as well.
At 4:50 I really thought the cat said "I'm a god here" for a second
Anyone else here agrees this is probably one the best dr.suess adaptations out there
I was convinced I made this show up in my memory because I had never seen anyone talk about it so thanks for reassuring me that I'm not crazy
With all that said, this video left me happy to see the Wubbulous world again.
don't forget the green eggs and ham show, the most expensive cartoon netflix has ever made
Can you please do the History of Allegra’s Window?
And Eureka's Castle! I've heard that some of the folx that worked on one show, went on to work on the other. Kinda like how Bear from Bear in the Big Blue House, was originally Magellan from Eureka's Castle!
One of the comments reminded me of the kids show Doodlebops. IDK much about it, but that could be a good idea for another Defunct video if its history is interesting enough.
Doodlebops! The show whos theme still pops in my head every now and then to this day.
As soon as the season 2 theme song started playing, I was singing "Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Big Blue House".
I remember getting this on Easter at age 6. I watched it heavily, I love the puppet stuff like this. I thought this was a straight to DVD show, it's cool to learn that it ran on Nickelodeon.
I loved The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss as a kid, and I still do! I'm glad it still airs on Starz Kids & Family (I have Optimum).
TOMM MY BOYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! HOW YOU DOOOOOOINNNNNNG?

Wait till nostalgia critic comes to the show
I wonder he thought of that at the time...
Thanks for making me remember how much I loved this show - fantastic work as always. Keep it up!
I have been watching the show and... I think that the first season holds up better as a family show and a faithful representation of Geisel's work because he can be dark when he needs to!
Oh my gosh! He made Nord VPN have the orange splatter background because it kind of sounds like Nickelodeon.
I loved Yertle The King! The song was funny! I also always thought that the cats were the cat in the hat’s kids.
GOT HERE AS SOON AS I SAW THE NOTIFICATION. I miss this show ❤️
i had the wubbulous world season 1 on dvd and i honestly thought i was the only one who remembered it. my older sister put nail polish on it because she hated me and wanted me to cry. i used to play the dvd in the xbox 360. i am 15 now btw. jesus christ- i feel weird now
I only saw like five episodes of bear in the big blue house when it was on air. And it has never left my mind. Nothing compares to it. Nothing can, maybe wont ever again.
