Symphonic soul at its very best from the greatest ever of the Marvin - inspired crooners. Al goes even one better two years later with a re-visiting of this epic soul moment on his 'Back For More' set recorded in 1980 for Norman Connors.
Bumped into this one about 15 years ago on Big Cheese Records - "The Smoocher" compilation. Love it to the bone. It's one of those tracks that has everything. I used to play it to my girlfriend at the time, she loved it too. Now we're married with three children. Nuff said.
Man, I hear a lot of Marvin Gaye in this song. Oh man as I hear more of it he really loved Marvin!!! I mean the inflection is totally Marvin, but it takes a good vocalist to be able to capture those notes and tones.
Al sounds familiar because he's don't so many works over the years. Not sure if his start was here, but he was the lead singer for the group the Unifics (early 70's). Court of Love. He continue to work behind the scenes with artists like Norman Connors throughout the 70's when Norman produced his two albums of the early 80's. This one and Peaceful
Sorry I did not see that you had said Marivn inspired before I posted. I just heard it and wrote it down did not know you had covered that, but it feels really good to know I was not trippin, but that my ear is on point when I pick out when one artist likes another so much they use some of the tone inflection and feel into tracks they make Big up Sorry for the overlap!
This album ... Dear god 💓🤤🙌🏾
Love his Music ... COURT OF LOVE ♥️💯💯♥️

good song

@catsduke Credits list 4 players: Guitar - Leo Nocentelli , Rodney Brown , Teddy Royal , Theodore "Sugarbear" Jones
Is that George Benson on that guitar?
Good gracious! 🎩
great
Reminds me of Mr. Gaye.
I use to think Marvin Gaye was singing this song years ago. I even typed the title with Marvin's name and it led me to this page.
Good question! Not that I'm aware of, though. Would be nice. ;-) Bernard Purdie's like butter on them drums on this track.
When I hear Kem I think of this guy who beat him by 20 years with a similar sound.
Charles Thompson b.
@TheFreshPeddler lol!! that's hilarious!
Ah I see. Does an instrumental version exist?
❤️
@6XstringXsamurai - you mean al johnson has never heard of al johnson lol
It's the same song - just an instrumental intro.
Sorry but not a patch on Tata Vega. Dx
