I think all northern european men were as tough as the Vikings were genetically speaking. Large pale men of northern europe were bigger and stronger on average than Mediterranean people.

@peterwhitaker4038 The Romans wrote down lots of accounts about how tall and terrifying the Germans looked to them, and Rome only ever managed to conquer parts of Britain and Germany, despite the fact that Northern Europeans were shockingly primitive and unsophisticated at the time. I think their physical superiority played a big role in being able to mostly hold off the way more disciplined and organized Legions.
Remember, The Byzantines eventually insisted on making Scandinavians into their own special forces unit after observing their size and physical power. Those special forces obviously didnt look quite as impressive to the other pale men in the North. Harold Hardrada got destroyed by the Anglo Saxons and William the Conqueror struggled alot with them soon after.
