One of my favorite songs from my all time favorite version of Scrooge. I just found out that the actor who portrayed Tiny Tim passed away this year. He was only 60. RIP, Richard Beaumont…
RIP Richard Beaumont aka Tiny Tim! Richard died from a short illness age 60, on 26th April 2022, according to Wikipedia. Many creatives from this wonderful film and musical have now passed, but I found it sad that I happened to come across the news of Richard’s passing 8 months later, and cannot find any News articles reporting his passing (apart from a post from singer Joe Longthorne on his website). “That the beautiful day that I dream about / Would be here and now”. !
Among all the Christmas Carols, this is one of the most accurate portrayals of Tiny Tim. In the Novel, he is portrayed as intelligent and optimistic and beyond his years. This actor gets it right as other adaptations make him too angelic.
I have this recording on a 45 rpm vinyl single pressed in Japan some 52 years ago. Oddly enough, it wasn't released on a single in either the UK or US.
Other versions are sung by adult females, and are cluttered by too many instruments. Richard Beaumont has the suitable, wispy, boy's voice, and the recorder (or flutophone) is the perfect instrument, to convey Tim's pure-hearted innocence. It makes me well-up with tears, just like the Carpenters version of "Sing."
An animation version of “Scrooge” featuring some of Leslie Bricusse’s original songs was released in 2022 (on Netflix). @MarianneLily -- Have you watched it/intend to watch it? It’s possible/probable that Bricusse died before completing his part as a Producer, and I’m not sure if he composed/co-composed ALL of the new songs (there is conflicting and sparse info online). I really wanted to like it, but I didn’t. I thought they did well with “Thank You Very Much” in both animation and song, and there are moments in the other songs that I liked. But I care too much about this Musical! I wished the team had treated it as well as it deserved. Maybe one day they’ll remake the whole original musical as another film...but the risk of butchering it is too great I think!
My eyes water every time I hear this when bobs at tiny Tim’s grave.
Me too.
Mine too...
I was in a Scrooge play I had to not cry and stay frozen
Why can't we have films and songs like this anymore
I love this song...really needed to hear it tonight. Thank you for posting this.
I hope you can hear my silent prayer for you x
Sounds like an sweet little angel singing

Que vontade de embalar essa criança tão adorável que está dentro de nós mesmos 🤗♥️🙏🏼🎁✨✨✨ Thanks 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 from Brazil 🇧🇷❤️
Please stop typing overly dramatic, over the top comments. You foreign trolls keep doing this, and us British are FED UP WITH IT!!!
