US soldier Bradley Manning has been convicted of espionage for leaking thousands of classified documents. Some 700,000 documents were passed to the anti-secrecy site Wikileaks, including US diplomatic cables and classified battlefield reports from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Is the court ruling a curb on freedom of speech or defending national security?
On March 16, 1968, during the Vietnam War, United States troops under the command of Lt. William L. Calley Jr. carried out a massacre of about 500 unarmed men, women and children in the village of My Lai if the public did not find out about that the Government would have covered up that war crime also. No difference just Government upset at getting caught!
When a soldier or anyone exposes war crimes it is not a crime it's bring evidence to justice
This government seems to operate under the misguided idea that whatever "they" do is justified but if anyone else does what they have been doing.....they go to jail! What is wrong with that picture?? Peverse bas-----!

I don't get it... most of the discussion is about the danger for the soldiers on the ground, while Bradley is found guilty for everything but 'aiding the enemy'...

it's not classified to protect foot soldiers, it's to protect politicians.
Get serious. Are we forgetting that the entire Iraq war is a complete disaster? That we've accomplished nothing there? That we've wasted over 4,000 of our own young men's lives? Doesn't this deserve an urgent reaction that might be considered fanatical in more normal times?

One thing he is Not is a coward. Bradley Manny did a Very brave thing by releasing those tapes to a publisher who could get them out. Chelsa Mannning did a Very Brave thing when she refused to Be America’s liar. Yes this Manning person is a Very Brave soul. We could all learn from His experience And heros.

THESE ARE THE REASONS THEY USE WHEN THEY KNOW THEY ARE GUILTY!!!! NO ONE WAS HURT BECAUSE OF THIS.
It's the very soldiers out there on the BATTLEFIELD who don't agree with the USA "strategy ". Those men are coming forward and sharing the true horrors of the pointless war. The USA is not at all concerned with it's soldiers and putting them in very dangerous positions.
Manning showed how American soldiers play and happy when killing the innocent civilians in Iraq .
In that sense the military is private armed security force for the government. That being the case the right to citizens to arm themselves to be strengthen not weaken.
The public needs to see the truth , then they can get answers from congress, if the public never see then there are no questions about the military actions to be asked and that is what they want. ( no questions)

You just stated the catch-22. Military law isn't the same, is it? Thus you can be tried and convicted in association to which is most relevant. Disobey orders? Okay. Federal offense for sharing classified information? Oops. Manning was F'd either way.

A lot of youtube comments that I have made disparaging the U.S. military and intelligence have been censored. Is the U.S. the land of the free? I think not. However, Chelsea Manning and many others are working to make it so and I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that the majority of the international community applauds her.
