This is my second time watching this because I am scheduled to undertake this hike next month. I am dreading it because I am not at a fitness I should be and suffer altitude-sickness, but the details you put in the video and the fantastic views have inspired me to push on and spend the next 5 weeks getting fit. Thanks for this video and best wishes for now.
Wow , I’m so jealous of you guys. You guys hiked the most amazing volcanoe in Central America . Being from Guatemala , I have never hiked any of the volcanoes . Your wife is such a trooper , she didn’t give up.😃
Thanks Raul. You have something very special to look forward to for sure when you decide to go! She fought so well, I am very proud of her. Thanks for watching :)
Felicidades escalaron uno de los volcanes más altos de Centroamérica, experiencia extrema, valió la pena el gran esfuerzo, al ver el espectáculo del volcán de fuego y las vellas vistas de la caída y puesta del sol,
Wow ! Christina you are such an inspiration, thanks for letting us see your vulnerability and resiliency even though you were clearly beat up physically and mentally. You never gave up and it gives me hope that I'll conquer this volcano too by having a tiny bit of your positivity and perseverance. You are a beautiful gritty woman! Kenneth must be super proud of you. Greetings from California!
When Christina read your comment, she completely teared up :) Thank you so much for giving us and her this feedback. It is always difficult to show yourself when you are struggling. She is such a wonderful spirit and I am very proud of her
Your wife is such trooper, I’ve done the hike many times and seen so many people turn back down. If you ever go back to Guatemala I recommend to you guys to do the new route to the water volcano from Ciudad vieja, a little more challenging then Acatenango but we’ll worth it
Thank you so much Pavel, she was so close to turning back down but she pushed through all the pain, tears and struggle. Thanks for the tip, we will definitely be going back to Guatemala again. We also need to do the Pacaya hike, although that should be faily easy compared to Aca ;) Thanks for watching, we really appreciate it :)
El mejor video de subir el Acatenango que he visto hasta hoy. He subido el volcan varias veces y se que es dificil. Me impresiono mucho el trabajo en equipo, y a pesar del padecimiento de Chris lograron la meta. Felicidades.
Thank you so much Ricardo :) It means a lot to us, we are very happy how the video tuned out, showing the good, the bad and the very difficult challenges. Most of all, we are so thankful we got to experience Acatenango and De Fuego in all their majestic beauty
Congratulations!!! Thank you for sharing, Heading out tomorrow, I have picked up a few tips from both of you, and mostly I was amazed/envious of your team/relationship 😀
Guys I am someone who is so nervous about this hike, Im doing it next week and seeing you guys struggle and say its worth it makes me want to get after it too!
Hey mp. That is so cool to hear. Thank you so much for watching. You can do it, being nervous is perfectly fine. Just means your mind and body are preparing. Just take it easy, trust your guide and enjoy it immensely when you reach the summit. We hope Fuego will give you a magnificent display of eruptions. Let us know how it goes ;)
Yeah, nature is just awesome. And for a couple like us, coming from one of the most flat countries in the world, mountains and volcanoes are just amazing to experience up close :)
Gracias por vicitar mi pais Guatemala hermano de Costa Rica los quiero los Amos aunque otros hermanos Centro americos no entendenos pero igual hay que tener paciencia bay
What a fantastically nice "hiker guide" you guys had :D. Also, thought that you brilliantly encapsulated the struggle and incredible inclination of the hike in this video, especially at 15:10... Btw did some of the others bring the dogs along or were they brought by the guides? and WAUW 25:56... what an amazing moment to capture... Also, Also, 28:03 and 29:01 was the city below right? because those were some great views... All in all, by FAR your best journey so far! What a spectacle of a video :)
Thanks buddy! Yeah, there were more tears than we had the heart to show in the video, but she didn't give up. The dogs were actually semi-wild dogs that just lives in the area. They decide to follow a group to the summit and they slept next to the fire and our tents. Of course, they get all the leftovers from the dinner and breakfast so we guess its kind of a lifestyle to them. Btw, breakfast was banana bread, nutella and Guatemalan coffee. Yummi!
This is so helpful! I’m hiking with them in a few weeks on the same trip. I’m really surprised about the lack of masks by staff though...(at the office) Did you do much training to prepare? I’m so excited! I live/hike in Costa Rica so the terrain is similar, but that’s a higher elevation! CONGRATS! You seem like such a great couple.
Hey Maria. Great to hear from you :) If you have been hiking and live in Costa Rica, you should be fine without any training preparations. Just take it nice and easy going up, especially during the first part. It is a benefit to stay in Antigua for a few days before the hike to climatize to the altitude though. You are in great hands with OX. We hope you will have a fantastic experience and thank you so much for the kind words
Thanks for watching! Yeah, above 3,000 meters you could definitely feel the thinner air. At the summit, around the 4,000 meters, there was around 40% less oxygen than at sea level. Fortunately, neither one of us was seriously struggling with the altitude. A couple in our group had headaches. Quite the experience! 😁
This episode is a bit longer than usual, but this amazing hike really deserves it, and we have been dying to share this video with you guys!
Amazing job!!! Im happy u visited my country, hope to see u back soon...
Chris, you are so blessed to have a man that shows you love and kindness. Kudos to you, Ken.
Aw, thank you dearly Catherine
