Owner Sandy Blaser talks about his pristine 1993 Cobra R with only 500 original miles at the Mustangs at the Queen Mary show 2013.
That fog light bracket delete saves about 40 lbs because it runs the full width of the front end. But the crap lx seats and radio delete were not a significant weight savings. I'd rather have a regular cobra and drive it all the time.
I got a fox ad before this video
Thanks for watching and commenting. These are very collectible already and this one at 250 miles is exactly what they would have looked like on the showroom in 93.
no 351... its RARE! that's why the high price!
Awesome,so rare too. I actually saw one back in 93 at the Ford dealer once.
Nice to see such a beautiful car like this one, but only 250 miles.....take it out every now and then and put your foot to the floor. Those cars have one purpose in life, and it sure isn't to sit in a garage it's whole life and not ever be driven. I have an 03 cobra with only 7800 miles on it which is still VERY low, but I have to take it out sometimes and go through those gears....does me and the car some good....lol
You have a good one and this example seems to be more of a "wrapper" car. The '93 Cobra R's aren't really built for the street, no a\c and no radio as delivered and no creature comforts.
Put the foot through the floor. Rushing had that
this place near my home called Gateway Classic Cars and it has two Cobra Rs and one has 61 miles on it the other has 63, the both cost a little under $100,000
also neither have ever been outside
Jonathan Long Wow hard to believe that have two of the 103 at their dealership. I can imagine it is going to take a certain type of Mustang to just put them on display again after that much of an investment. Thanks for stopping by Jonathan.
The 1993 SVT Cobra's short block (cylinder block, crankshaft, rods, and pistons) was carried over from the GT model. Google it. I found this on wikipedia. This means its a 302.
Ya 93 is street legal but with only 100 of them made they are super rare, never seen one actually being used on the street just shows and auctions.
Sold at auction
Seems this was the record setter at Barrett-Jackson last week at 135k
Nevermind. I just googled it. the 351 wasn't introduced to the newer mustangs unitl 95'. I guess the rarity, suspension and bracing is what you are paying for. Very unique car. I've seen a few 2000 Cobra R's but not the 93'. Is the 93' allowed to be driven on the road?
Cobrafanatik22 it’s a production car so whada u think
This Cobra R is now for sale on eBay for $65,000 obo with 522 miles on it.
Probably not the exact car but one like it as the owner Sandy only trailers his cars and it only had 250 miles on it 3 months ago. I am pretty sure he still owns it.
MustangConnection1 Heck of a coincidence that a guy named Sandy who lives in SoCal with "Viila Ford" license plate frames(like this car has) is the person selling a Cobra R on eBay.......
Well then that would be him, guess he decided to sell it and drive it a bit before he
moves it along. He must be on the hunt for another limited edition car.
I saw one last weekend here in Texas! For sale it also had under 300 miles
Maybe the same car ? !
That is a sweet car. I would keep the mileage under 1000 too cause it's just THAT nice.
My dream car was a 2004 azure blue Mach 1 mustang.......it's now in my driveway......
I do love this car tho
What do you think about the rumors that Ford is bringing the Mach 1 back for 2021 to replace the Bullitt ?
I know its a 302, Sorry to be confusing, but I was replying to your post, telling you that "no its not a 351". And that the reason for the high price of the car ( weather stripped down or not) is because they only made 107 of them compared to 4993 regular cobras.
so the cobra R is basicly the super racing version of a normal cobra ?
Yes it was purpose built for the track but many of the 93 Cobra R's ( they only built 103) ended up in collectors hands.
5 lug bolt pattern 94 GT 17.. The 93 standard Cobra has 17 wheels except they were 4 lug bolt pattern.. Wheels painted black chrome centers rear seat delete carpet over full size spare fog light delete for air duct cooling radio delete.. Best brakes offered on a factory ford mustang to that date... suspension mods & strut tower brace, cooling solution unique to the R.. 2 sat at Marshall Mize Ford for almost a year 93/94 because the window stickers had been jacked up on both to over $30 grand each.. I waited to see if they wouldn't try to rob me blind but they wouldn't budge so I went with a Black Cobra from John Bleakley ford in Douglasville GA ... BTW JBF had 2 Saleen SA/10's on the lot that day.. 1 was the owners personal car & the other was for sale on the showroom floor... Pictures & videos don't do the SA/10's justice...
It sucks that these cars are used as an investment and not for enjoyment
Shame because in order to buy one you had to have a valid and active racing license because this is the exact thing Ford wanted to avoid.
+84Bronco351 It happens every time, racers buy a certain number just to flip them down the line. They end up as rolling museum pieces.
What a beautiful car.
+Jeff Froment No argument there.
This is my dream car, im a simple man who cant afford one! Just awesome!
You and me both brother...lol
I am happy to own a vibrant red 93 cobra 100 percent stock with just exhaust with 20thousand original miles. Going up in value every day.
A 93 R just sold on line for a 132grand.
Its not a 351?
? The 1995 Cobra R was the only 351 car made.
I know someone that had one with only 25 original miles. That HAS to be the lowest mileage cobra r in existence!
invcable7 Probably so, this one is pretty perfect too.
Definitely a beautiful car but its crazy that the price is higher than the the original cobra. It's stripped down. I'm assuming that it has a 351 in it? and a T5?
Breaks my heart to hear "Regular Cobra" and just to rub my plums a bit, my #666/4993 Black Cobra would erase this R !
Love the post though Foxbody 4 life
Julian Johnston I realize the drive train is the same for both, it's just the fact they only built 103 of these makes it a rare example. Still love the '93 Cobra a great Foxbody for sure.
Totally agree pal, and the Cobra R is a car I would of loved to have owned!
Congrats Sandy! very nice find there!
Yeah one just sold for $135,000 I believe it may have had 500 miles on it, but i could be wrong on the miles may have been less. 🇺🇸 MERICA
I think this may have been the car, Sandy Blaser shown in the video sold this car about 3 years ago.
Aside from the collectable value, I'd rather have a regular Cobra. Same great engine plus radio, air conditioning, and better seats.
True, they didn't have any more HP that the standard Cobra, it is really about the rarity as you noted.
Its a shame its not driven but at least it's shown off.
+HashBang It seems many of these ended up being preserved rather than raced as initially intended.
HashBang can’t drive that thing it’s too rare come on!!
MustangConnection1 well when it’s one in 107 and costs $130k+ you would do the same
I dont see anything really special about this compared to the more common cobra in that year.
Why couldn't Ford do a 351w option!
Eric great question, too difficult to engineer for just 100 cars and have it pass smog. That being said by 1995 they did put the 351 in the 300 Cobra R's that year.
Bro people that know every fact about there specific car pisses me off. I don’t understand why, it’s what you do. You should know your stuff. But it annoys me so much for some reason and Idk why. I’m not jealous. (Well I am but like it isn’t the reason I get annoyed) if it’s a beat up piece of crap it still annoys meZ
Awesome car , but can't stand when cars like that are owned and never driven, might as well have the engine and transmission removed so they don't get dirty too, it gets as much road time as a car that does not work , what's the point
A certain number of this limited edition cars do get saved , most were used up so it is kinda nice to see an original example all these years later.
Real cobra r had 351w
I have 1
1995 only on the 351 pretty rad car though!
Announcer in background is very annoying
love the car, but they should have put some different wheels on that car....for such a badass car, those just don't go with the car at all imo.
With only 500 miles, it's safe to say that he has not enjoyed this car much at all.
+nateyzf Yes that is for sure.
How much hp and tq some one knows
ALL 1993 Cobras came with 17" wheels. The Cobra R is not this first Fox to appear with 17's...
Get the facts straight!
+SVT FOX Yes you are correct these are the first of this kind to appear in advance of the SN95. I should have noted the standard Cobra had the other 17's that only appeared on the 93. I do my best to remember most details about 50 years of Mustangs at the various shows. After 4 to 6 hours of show coverage I do miss a small detail here or there. I am the one filming, narrating, interacting with the owner and crowd and later editing the videos so there are times when semantics or specifics are omitted or overlooked. Thankfully the internet is full of people to nit pick each and every one of them even two years after the fact.
this thing is worth about $80,000. its one of the top ten rarest stangs
Aaron McConkey Agree with you completely the upside of these Cobra R's and their collector status should only increase over the coming years.Very rare.
4:09 that fro
That car's such a beast! Just once though, I'd love to see a 'hammered' '93 Cobra R in a mall parking lot, covered in faded paint, nicks, dings, belching smoke, with over 100K miles. I think it would be nice to find one in that condition, since you KNOW the owner probably wouldn't have a clue what it was, and you could get it for a steal.
It's funny you mention that as I have yet to see any '93 Cobra R that was actually raced back 20 years ago. I am sure they exist and that would be cool indeed.
a whopping 235 hp @ 4600 rpm and 280 ft lbs @ 4000 rpm doesnt sound all that impressive . But their suspension and handling was their claim to fame. The red only paint , boring cheap plastic interior and hideous wheels dont do them justice either. But I guess if someone wanted to pay alot more for a lot less in 93 then buying the R over the standard Cobra was the way to do it .
It's all relative was nearly 25 years ago . Pretty cool to send out the fox body platform with such a cool limited edition of the regular Cobra.
Your missing the point buddy. It’s the same car as the 93 cobra minus 100 lbs. where it is missing creature comforts and acquired a few parts generally never included in a street car. The cars were meant for SVT testing. Also have you never driven a foxbody? I think your a little confused.
What's the song at the end of the video?
Lorenzo Flame316 your mom
That's lame just to let them sit and rot like that.
Mr. Krinkle they’re not rotting but it does suck that these cars are used as an investment and not to be used for enjoyment
How much hp and tq some one knows
Jose Matias Jose in 1993 the Cobra R had the same engine as the regular Cobra 235 HP, 285 TQ. The Transmission, rear brakes, suspension, and wheels and tires were all upgraded. They had a bunch of weight saving measures too.
