You go to heaven once you've been to hell. Greg Dulli pulling miracles out of the night air, Rolling Stone Magazine session. Used for promotional purposes only.
@heavenfunkfish69 I agree! Pretty much all his covers beat the originals. I love the Afghan Whigs covers of "Come See About Me", "My World Is Empty Without You" and "Mr. Superlove". Even his "Miss World" cover is pretty cool (though I love the Hole version too!).
Leonard Cohen is a great poet and songwriter. In fact, my favorite lyricist of all time. That being said, I find Leonard's versions of his own songs almost unlistenable. Leonard Cohen songs are best when they're done by someone else in my opinion. The arrangements are often scattered. A agree with the with comment that says that Leonard has a hard time conveying the emotion behind his own lyrics. And to the other comment about irony? Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar….this song…I believe was written in the literal sense.
+joseph harry Couldn't disagree more. Leonard Cohen sings them with conviction. Other's usually just put sugary show-biz professionalism and cliched singing. Case in point this version, belongs to somewhere between Las Vegas and some Nashville open mike night...
This still makes me cry. I can't listen to it without crying.
Those who know Dulli's work just know. Never ceases to amaze me.
Thanks for the download been looking for this to show up on here.
Dulli's cover is perfect. Almost too beautiful to listen to, it's a supernova of a song.
Not a fan of the original, but this is by far one of the most beautufully written songs of selfless love. Greg Dulli does an amazing job.

Greg's version totally beats the original in my opinion. Very fitting lyrics for Greg to take on too.
Not a patch on Leonard's original I'm afraid.

It's OK but take Cohen original everytime.
I know! This is horrible. The original was so much better.
Ugh...no thanks... back to Leonard Cohen for me!
