- I have no idea what the words in this song mean. All I know is every time I hear it I nearly cry it's so lovely. This is sung by Connie Dover and all the art is from the Deviant Art web site. Just type in "Celtic" in the search tool and they will all come up.
Dear Musicrain: Connie Dover here. I am so glad that you are enjoying Ubi Caritas. When I recorded this song, I added layers of voices in hopes of creating an enveloping sensation. I appreciate that you feel that. I would venture to guess that your inner light burns very bright.Thank you for writing.
Hi dear Connie, first heard Ubi Caritas in 1995 and fell in love with your pure angelic voice, i know and love all your work. words can't really convey the dept of what i'm trying to say but your singing helped me to stay balanced and comforted me in a very challenging times and i'm eternally grateful for that, till this day your Ubi Caritas is one of my favorite songs for a journey to the inner bliss of mystical union, it has that power (i'm Jewish but that's got nothing to do with it, the divine language of love truth and beauty is one). hope to see you in live concert some day soon. best wishes, God bless you.
Я тоже не понимаю о чем речь в песне без предварительного перевода. Но скажу откровенно, для меня это лучшее исполнение. Играя голосами, вы сделали шедевр)))
Loved this song many many years ago and still love it. Thank you❤
Your voice could charm the stars to come down from the sky, and dance with you.
The lyrics mean: Where there is charity and love, there is God. It is an ancient Christian hymn,
'caritas' really translates to 'loving kindness' not charity.
Catholics still sing Ubi Caritas. Different melody.
Where are the people who love this music as I do?
Riight here! Waving at you! :)
wishing you well
we sing it at Mass quite frequently...it is scripture ya know...
Here, my lady!
I am here. And though I'm Celtic I loved this song from the first time I heared it. It stii drives the tears in my eyes.
3. Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est.
Simul quoque cum beatis videamus,
Glorianter vultum tuum, Christe Deus:
Gaudium quod est immensum, atque probum,
Saecula per infinita saeculorum. Amen.
3. Where charity and love are, God is there.
And may we with the saints also,
See Thy face in glory, O Christ our God:
The joy that is immense and good,
Unto the ages through infinite ages. Amen.
Ubi caritas is a hymn of the Western Church, long used as one of the antiphons for the washing of feet on Maundy Thursday. The Gregorian melody was composed sometime between the fourth and tenth centuries, though some scholars believe the text dates from early Christian gatherings before the formalization of the Mass. It is usually sung at Eucharistic Adoration and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament and on Holy Thursday evening at the Mass of the Lord's Supper. The current Roman Catholic Missal (1970, 3rd typical edition 2000) reassigned it from the foot-washing mandatum to the offertory procession at the Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord's Supper
Ubi caritas et amor Deus ibi est
Congregavit nos in unum Christi amor
Exsultemus et in ipso jucundemur
Et ex corde diligamus nos sincere
Ubi caritas et amor Deus ibi est
Simul ergo cum in unum congregamur
Ne nos mente dividamur caveamus
Cessent jurgia maligna, cessent lites
Et in medio nostri sit Christus Deus
Ubi caritas et amor Deus ibi est
Simul quoque cum beatis videamus
Glorianter vultum tuum, Christe Deus
Gaudium quod est immensum atque probum
Seacula per infinita saeculorum
Translation from Latin to English
Where love and loving-kindness are together, God is always there
Since Christ's love has gathered us all together in one company,
Let us rejoice and take delight n Him, now and forever,
Let us now without any reserve or deception love one another.
Where love and loving-kindness are together, God is always there,
Therefore, whenever we are together,
Let us not be divided from each other in our feelings;
Let spite, quarreling and strife cease among us, and may Christ, who is God, be in our midst.
Where love and loving-kindness are together, God is always there
Bring us, in the company of the blessed, to behold Your great beauty,
To see Your face in glory, Christ our God,
There to possess heaven's peace and joy, Your truth and love,
Happiness of immeasurable excellence,
Through unending ages of ages, world without end.

Latin hymn. English translation.
Where charity and love are, there God is.
The love of Christ has gathered us into one.
Let us exult, and in Him be joyful.
Let us fear and let us love the living God.
And from a sincere heart let us love each other.Where charity and love are, there God is.
Therefore, whenever we are gathered as one:
Lest we in mind be divided, let us beware.
Let cease malicious quarrels, let strife give way.
And in the midst of us be Christ our God.Where charity and love are, there God is.
Together also with the blessed may we see,
Gloriously, Thy countenance, O Christ our God:
A joy which is immense, and also approved:
Through infinite ages of ages.
Amen.
Thank you
Thank you 🙏
I was preveliged to hear Connie at an outdoor concert. Her voice is just as beautiful as this recording! It was a very beautiful thing!
Connie Dover and this song are an spiritual experience... ❤
I am not a Christian or a Catholic but it is still touching to hear such beautiful song. I am part Celtic (My great-grandmother is Welsh)
Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est.
Congregavit nos in unum Christi amor.
Exultemus, et in ipso iucundemur.
Timeamus, et amemus Deum vivum.
Et ex corde diligamus nos sincero.
Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est.
Simul ergo cum in unum congregamur:
Ne nos mente dividamur, caveamus.
Cessent iurgia maligna, cessent lites.
Et in medio nostri sit Christus Deus.
Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est.
Simul quoque cum beatis videamus,
Glorianter vultum tuum, Christe Deus:
Gaudium quod est immensum, atque probum,
Saecula per infinita saeculorum. Amen.
My grandparents were French so that is my first language.... then of course English and my parents used Latin when they didn't want us to listen in. so of course, as soon as it was offered in school, I was there... last time it came in handy was reading Augustine's CONFESSIONS after struggling with a bad translation... Spanish came volunteering and working on archelolgical dig & for a polo player. Been told I speak Spanish with a French accent.Ha! & ASL & SEEsign which aren't spoken.
I totally agree. Connie is a most precious gift. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us.
When Connie sings harmony with herself, it gives pretty much same feeling as takeoff under a hang glider did.
"Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est."
"Where there are charity and love, God is there."
@Gimmer3 I did go back and look for other versions of this song in here but none of them sounded any thing like this to me. But after someone translated this song to me and told me what it was about I thought it even more beautiful. Some day I'm going to take this video down and remake it. Its on my list of things to do. After this video I made sure that I learned the English translations of every other song I use in my vids that are in foreign languages BEFORE I make vids out of them.
Latin is a very beautiful language. Even if you don't have a chance to use it much you still learned a whole other language. That is a great accomplishment for any one who takes that challenge on. I only know one language. American version of English.
@Gimmer3 Yes I already acknowledged that in messages further on down. The song is in a language I did not understand and I just put images to what I felt as I heard the music. The sound. Sorry. I did not mean to offend any Christians when I made this video.
@Gimmer3 It is such a beautiful song is'nt it? When i first heard it I had no idea what the words meant but the way she was singing them, It brought tears to my eyes. Still does sometimes when I listen to it.
Rain thank you so much for your beautiful message reminding us of the most basic blessings we have but often take for granted. And thank you for taking the time to let me know you enjoyed this song I uploaded. And it is a very beautiful song. Connie's voice is how I imagine an angel's voice might sound.
Well you certainly have not wasted any of your life thats for sure! And from the sound of it I bet there were not many times when you were bored.
@acerb45666555 Ooops! Well she looked like a Celtic beauty to me! And her pic came up when I typed in the term "celts" in the image search.
@whatsyourname321 Well, to be honest, I've made some pretty controversial vids too. But these Celtic and meditation vids I make are mostly for fun and relaxation and escape. Not every one would agree with my personal political views. But I hope they won't hold those against me and just enjoy my "artsy" meditation videos. I have two play lists. One is peace and mediation vids and one is political vids. If you go to my channel you'll see both lists up at the right of the screen. All are music.
@fastwalker749 Tell her thank you for sharing her gift with us and please tell us when she is going to make another album or another song.
One of my favorite songs of all time...
I just love that version of 'Ubi Caritas'
You find the lyrics (latin and english translation) on connie dover's website. Just google "connie dover".
@flannelflan Wherever charity and love [are], there is God". Nothing could be more true than that.
@MrGurbhej1 Thank you for taking the time to let me know you liked my video!
This IS a beautiful song, isn't it? I love it too!
am muslim May God be pleased by me.and i love those lovely songs of Gaelic
Latin, my brother
Alder MoonOak the lyrics are Latin but the music is Celtic (Gaelic)
Well thank you Adela! But if you were going to show off one of my vids I think my more recent ones are better. Not as far as song wise though. This song is one of the best. But go to my channel, check out my play list called "peace and meditation vids by Bat". I think you'll like my vids I put in that one. I put some amazing art to some great music in all those vids. Over a hundred of them!
Connie is the most perfect, beautiful , talented person I have ever met in real life. Have you ever had a want, an urge, a need that has never been met.
Welcome to my world.

Beware, lest we be divided in mind.
Let evil impulses stop, let controversy cease,

@JosefRaddy Thank you very much for sharing that.
I am so AMAZED at teens who say they are 'bored'.... Here I am approaching the end to my life here on Earth, and it's just like it's opening up for me....like a water lilly. After a bit over 10 years of 'chemo brain', it's like that part of me has not only healed but become remarkably sharper.... and I'm running out of time. I could use a 28 hour day. BINGO is NOT my forte. LOL Pax.
There are times when nothing says it better than the universal/catholic language of Latin... there are times when I hunger for the Mass in Latin again... but I was raised in a home where my parents actually used Latin when they wanted to keep a secret. Of course I took it as soon as it was offered in school and had 5 years of it. For me, it's no different than English, except I'm getting rusty 'cuz it's not used much any more.
@glvdtxn I find it hard for it to be Episcopal with being in Latin. The Episcopal denounces any Latin in its rites. It is a angelican religion that went away from the beliefs of the Church of England as well as the Catholic Church.Episcopal also does not believe in the prayer of saints as what is spoken in this hymn. This is 100% Gregorian 4th century Catholic prayer that was chanted all day long on Holy Thursday.
Where charity and love are, there God is.
The love of Christ has gathered us into one flock.
Let us exult, and in Him be joyful.
Let us fear and let us love the living God.
And from a sincere heart let us love each other (and Him).
Where charity and love are, there God is.
Therefore, whensoever we are gathered as one:
Lest we in mind be divided, let us beware.
Let cease malicious quarrels, let strife give way.
And in the midst of us be Christ our God.

Music is a comforting light in a cruel, lonely world. I say this because I am totally blind. I face darkness each day, but I am a person who accepts all challenges. Music helps me through my day to do life; I can't function without it. This song is one of my favorites, I almost feel like I'm in someone's arms and having this song sung to me softly and sweetly. It automatically makes me cry. I love it so much
@batlady2 No problem!! Im just glad noone gets into dissagreements over justin bieber and starts cursing at each other!! why couldnt everyone be so peacful and welcoming and make great vids?!!
All you who talk about it being Anglican or Episcopal back up and regroup. Eus Catholic est! Yep we Catholics lay claim to this buddy. But hey Noone does it like Connie.
Connie Dover has a beautiful voice. If she put the telephone book to music it would be worth listening to. Who cares what the translation is????
@Gimmer3 Its okay Gimmer no worries.
@Jarrahnut Thank you so much Jarrah!
Beautiful effort all round. Greetings to one and all from Mundlimup Forest. Give Logging the Chop!
Celtic? that’s medieval church Latin the last thing I associate with the proud pagan Celts.
@batlady2 You're welcome :) and I very much agree. Thank you too for uploading the song :)
Connie Dover is one of America's most precious gifts to the world. And this is a wonderful example of her artistry.
Where are charity and love, there God is. This is such a beautiful song. I fell in love with this song the first time I heard it, and it is the only version of 'Ubi Caritas' that I like. The church versions I have heard suck in comparison to this.
The melody, that's it "Scarborough Fair".
The melody, that's it "Scarborough Fair".
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubi_caritas for the full text and what each line means. It's from the late 8th century and Connie's music really does justice to the text about when a community of faith is united, God is with them.
Where there is love and love there God
the love of Christ has gathered us together
Let us rejoice and in him let us rejoice.
We love you sincerely and wholeheartedly
Where there is love and love there God
Therefore together we come together
let us not divide our minds, let us beware
Let bad strifes cease, let strife cease
Let bad strifes cease, let strife cease
And in the midst of us, Christ God
Where there is love and love there God
Let us see together even with the blessed
Your face in glory, Christ God
The joy that is boundless and right
through endless ages
This is so beautiful and healing...I have no words.
A very nice piece of music, but hardly Celtic, its sung in Latin and is a religious hymn
Absolutely beautiful. Praise Him with music. Praise the Lamb who is the great I AM. Thank you for sharing this beautiful usic.
@yannorene I agree!

I think my father used to sing Thais song in Portuguese when i was achild.
@fredheidrick Hi Fred! Nearly all the images I use in my vids come from the Deviant Art Web site. If you type in the word "Celtic" in their search tool all these images should come up. Also type in "eyes" or eye make up. Different terms like that. I use so many different images from D.A. that its very hard to keep track of the exact artists names. But all the art does come from there. They have tons of different "eye" images like that. Absolutely beautiful!
It reminds me of Scarborough Fair by Simon & Garfunkel
batlady2 this sound is beautiful transports me to something beyond...tkx for sharing
Hi there dear Caillean! Always good to see you again. And I'm glad you are still enjoying my videos!
@midwife2thesoul Yes I know what the song is about now. I just wish I had known before I made this video, if I had, I would have made it better. Now there is no way to change it unless I delete it and make a whole new one. I might do that in the future but do not have the time to now. It takes time to make these videos. But now I try to do more research before making them if I'm using songs that are in languages other than English. A lesson I learned after making this video.
@LCarterDotCom I watched it! OMG it was FANTASTIC! Thanks for sharing it with me. I've subscribed to your channel and sent you a friend invite because you shared that. I LOVE Connie Dover. I messed this particular video montage up on this song though because I did not get the English translation before i made it so the images don't go with what the song is about. But any way, this song breaks me up in pieces no matter how any times I listen to it because of the way she sings it.

Oh I love that song too! I have another version of it I put in a video. Look for my Angel's of Venice Video of Scarborough Fair. Its all instrumental though with lovely images to go with it. Go to my channel and scroll down my "peace and meditations vids" play list till you come to it. A.O.V. music is fantastic!
Mom2caims... you have a remarkable way of looking at life and an excellent example of a fantastic attitude that all humans should emulate. You are a strong wise soul and we are ALL running out of time here. But the next life has no time limits on it. May we all meet up there in that place where all sorrow and pain is no longer.
@Gretchen785 Wow! Thank you so much for that great feed back and all that information you found about the history of all of this Gretchen! I always thought the word Pagan meant believing in nature or mythical gods instead of the one singular God. "Country dweller" is far from that meaning. We learn something new every day here on UA-cam.
@LCarterDotCom Share as many Connie Dover videos as you can. Its a treat for we out here who just absolutely love the sound of her beautiful voice. She sounds like what I imagine an angel's voice to sound like.
Yes and her beautiful voice in this song gathers people together and makes them be quiet and listen. And after listening they are able to talk to each other with kindness and understanding. Every song she sings is lovely beyond words but this one IMO is the most beautiful one of all.
It's One of the most beautiful songs in the cosmos ever.
I think Cantus is every bit as beautiful myself
1:50.....shes Slavic! ***** :)
@alrchaplain Your claim has been noted dear Chaplain! Its a beautiful song where ever it comes from. I'm not even Catholic and I totally love it!
@btschappat Isn't it wonderful how songs can make us re live wonderful memories like the one you just shared? I'm glad you enjoyed my video and thanks for taking the time to let me know you did.
@whatsyourname321 You are welcome! And thank you for taking the time to tell me how much you liked it!
And a big shout out back at ya to all the great people of the Netherlands!
@midwife2thesoul I'm glad you feel that way midwife. Besides its the song and the images that make it even if they don't fit together absolutely perfect in every place in it. Maybe one day I'll make a part two video of it using the same song with other images I find. Or I'll just use another one of her songs. I love them all. But this one is my favorite.
Thank you Med for all your positive feed back. I am thinking about remaking this video and just deleting this one. Its on my list of things to do. Its a beautiful song that deserves the right imagery to go a long with it. I wish I had kept it in my Imovie but I don't have it any more so editing it now is impossible. I'll just have to re make it.
@glvdtxn Thank you for sharing that information with us about this song. The words match the lovely sound of it.
It is the most beautiful song in the cosmos ever.
I'm glad you liked my vid and thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts and letting me know you liked it.
Thank you Adela for taking the time to let me know you liked it. But now I feel I could have done better with my choice of art for this one. Because I should have taken the time to find out what the words meant first before I put it together. Its really a religion Christian song. Some of the images do not go with it. (sigh) one of my earlier ones where I was to excited and to in a hurry to make it. I've since had more practice and take more time and research better.
@LoneChief25 Thank you so much for taking the time to let me know you enjoyed my video.
@4EMF I'm so glad you enjoyed my video and thank you for taking the time to tell me so.
My father used to sing this song when l was a child.
Beautiful words. Thank you for sharing that translation. Now I see some of my Celtic pagan images may not have been the right choice for this particular song. (oops!)
@midwife2thesoul Oh I wish Ms Dover could read this so she could see how much her gifted art means to you. This was a very nice message you sent. Thank you.
wiki pedia had full translation.
This kind of sound is exactly why I associate Ireland with fantasy and adventure.
@lowlandpark Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and comments.
I have always been so admirable.
You are very welcome and thank you for taking the time to give me your feed back.
Спасибо за видео.
Thank you verickson for taking the time to let me know my video gave you joy.
@pookiebayrock Yes its such a great song. It gives me chills its so beautiful
@Nymwe Thank you for sharing that translation Nymwe! The words are very beautiful.
Where can we find the sheet music?
So Beautiful ❤️
I live in goddam Kolari.
