excellent inspiring and underrated video! Please upload more on classical guitar improvisation. There are merely precious few such videos online. Thanks for this
Thank you very much Lorenzo for your comments. I have more videos on my website www.keepingguitar.co.uk and on my You Tube page if you subscribe. I shall be posting more videos shortly. Glad they help, and good luck with your improvisations. You can also use some of the backing tracks i have posted to help you with your own improvisations.
when i use an accompaniment I arppegiate and also use different rhythmic patterns with some double, treble stopping too. When i improvise a melody over the top, I use a rest stroke single note melody around a scale/key.
I have to thank you for this because now I have a good reason to get off of my video game, plus my progress on guitar has stalled tremendously I subbed and hope to learn more
Very well thought out ideas on improvisation. I agree 100%. I have studied the rhythm playing of John Lennon. His rhythms were chord notes in a unique sequence. Think "Norwegian Wood" or " I feel fine." Very good ideas expressed in your video. Thanks
Hi ANDREW , I WAS TRYING TO FIND A REVIEW OF A QUALITY GUITAR SUPPORT, I am somewhat premature watching you give Progressive playing techniques. I know you acknowledged my previous comment but thanks for great reviews .Barry
thanks Farid for your kind words. With the Boss RC30 there is a microphone input for vocals, but you can also use it to mic up the guitar. This will allow you to create a loop on the guitar. Alternatively you can get a temporary pick up to stick to the guitar/body and/or attach in the sound hole. Hope this helps.
my favourite musician of all time improvises constantly with classical guitar and singing. Charles Manson (im serious when i say if you forget the reputation and listen to his music, it could blow you away)
Nice teaching by Ewan McGregor. As you mentioned, I found that a great deal of classical players are pretty bad at impro. A classical example is watching Les Dawson mess with John William's head & john is lost & tries to catch up.( youtube) I know a concert pianist who is also lost without notation & breaks out in a sweat if asked to "just wing it!"
4:05 It's not 'B Diminished'. It's B half Dim., or B-7b5. B Dim. has an Ab [or G#] in it which is not in the key of C.. Correctly, 'B half Dim' has an A natural in it and can also be looked at as a G9 [GDom9] minus the route G and is the chord built on the 7th degree of the C scale...
My guitar is a custom built Trevor Temple guitar with LR Baggs internal pickups. Takamine guitars are good. Just try loads of guitars to find what your ear likes most, then go with what looks pretty too!!
Andrew, Your lesson are just great, no convoluted explanations or long winded talking without hands on. But I didn't find any backing tracks in your website, were they removed? Thanks
Zakir Khan really? I know i am stating the obvious, but have you turned your volume up? It sounds ok on lots of different devices that I have checked. Friends that have checked for me also say it is ok.
Thanks Andrew. Really inspiring.
Glad you enjoyed it
i really loved every single note you mentioned here .. very easy and informative lesson , thanks a lot Andrew
Really cool, thank you so much for your work 🙏
No worries!

When improvising with classical guitar is it mostly arppegiations?

This is how I write my original pieces. Arpeggios first and then work the melody in.
Excellent, inspiring instruction!
Jud, thanks for your kind words. I am glad you found it useful. Happy improvising.
Hi....A K .....simply great explanation...thanks
Just what I was looking for~ You are a great inspiration ~

Thanks, excellent lesson! Any idea how to create a loop without the electronic pick up connection?

Ha ha. Great little anecdote. Must find a copy.

What about your guitar Andrew? Have you got any suggestion ? Is takamine good? Thank's for the video

But it's a very common example, Bach's prelude. You can find this sequence everywhere. People need some chord theory.
