I'm so happy Mel is back. Say what you want about his personal life, but this man is one the best director and actor of our lifetime. I am confident in saying that.
I tend to be pretty ok with separating peoples art from who they are in life. Like, I can still watch and enjoy The Cosby Show even though Bill Cosby isn't that great of a guy. I mean sure, it's still in the back of my mind but I'm not going to place blame on the show, just the man.
8bit-Corbu But everyone has different opinions on what and how important those isssues are. That's why reviews have such variety. He wanted more from this movie in the end, warranting his A rating. He got everything he wanted from his A+ movies.
+Tristan Ludwig its stupid.... because he took down rating because something what he wanted wasnt in the movie.... for example i wanted LOTR one more scene but i didnt get it so i wont give it an oscar?.... its really childish of him
Zoltan1251 Seriously? Comparing getting an Oscar, that gets voted on by many many people, to getting the second highest rating a movie can get on a review channel run by one single person? I'm pretty sure that alone makes the point you're trying to make less than valid. Does this movie have 100% on any review site (which is what you should be comparing it to, not an oscar)? No. Because SOME people may have given it a perfect score, but MANY people, like Chris, wanted just a little more, so they gave it a CLOSE to perfect score. Saying he's childish for giving a movie an almost perfect score is pretty ignorant.
As soon as he said Hacksaw was about as good as Braveheart, I literally dropped my phone and went to the theater. I didn't even bother calling for show times.
@thi tran Look onto the history of the real William Wallace. He seems more a myth than a man. He stood as an idol to the Highlanders. So much was made up that Gubson had a hard time making historically accurate. So Gibson opted to portray Wallace as a man that was surrounded in myth and controversy. I think Gibson did an amazing job at portraying who Wallace might have been like.
This movie is only 2 months old and I already believe this one of the best war movies ever made. Say what you will about Mel Gibson as a person but he's clearly an artist at his craft.
The real story was Hitler allowed those troops to retreat. If he wanted to he could have blown up the whole beach with bombers. He let those men escape as a gesture to us to make peace with him.
Blazed Duck well thats a good thought. And I know about the world war 2 a litel bit, but to actually se the hool event in a movie is awesom. Even if the battel in the movie may not have been the same in the reality.
Desmond T. Doss has been my hero since I read this book in 1971. The book came out in 1969. I was eleven years old. Desmond was a living testimony to his faith and will continue to inspire millions, even after his passing. God bless him.
This film is so amazing. I saw it yesterday and I was blown away! It is such an emotional film and gives such a powerful message. I highly recommend it to anyone
That would be fascinating, but tough to bring to the screen. For a start, David's story overlaps with the stories of Saul and Samuel, and then with the reign of his son Solomon, so finding a definitive starting point would be difficult, as you need a lot of Saul and Samuel's backstories to explain what's going on. Also, there were several different battles, and the most famous ones (including his encounter with Goliath) happened before David became king. A fair amount of David's time as king was actually spent in hiding from his son Absalom, who staged a coup. It would take a very deft director and scriptwriter to make it work.
Yeah, difficult but not impossible and if done right, it'll be great. Not every bit of his story has to be shown and it doesn't have to capture his whole life. I'm sure a very good director would know how to skip time and emphasis on important and interesting parts of his story to produce a good movie out of it.
Daniel Salisbury I think Peter Jackson can handle that very well too but I doubt he'd be willing to show as much gore as Mel Gibson would. The gritty depiction of those wars would go a long way to enhance the experience.
It just feels sad that most people who made reviews on Rotten Tomatoes gave this film a very low score just because of Mel Gibson's past. What's the point of rating a movie if you're just going to be biased
Bill 'I Did Not Bang That Woman' Clinton Bullshit, its not a good movie and i love Gibson as a director and actor. Its funny how people like Stuckman just think everything is good and beautiful and walk in line with a crowd instead of having balls and being honest for once. Did he ever totally destroy a movie that everybody loved? Nope
Martynas Blažaitis With both Horror movies and serious drama movies, he is by far a lot more strict with his grading criteria...He gave 12 years a slave an A as well
We just came out of the screening and we only have good things to say about it, but it's still not worthy of a perfect score. It's the kind of movie that's as good as it could be (which is truly excellent), but by it's surface-level nature it cant be ranked as high as films like Saving Private Ryan or Apocalypse Now, which truly deserve an A+
Kristian Andreasen Yeah we gave it a bit lower, but hey, more about the words than the score right? It's current average from critics is a 6.8 anyway, so Chris was very fair to it :)
Breaking Banter yeah but metascore does not really justefice most movies from what i've seen atleast. 8.8 on imdb and 94% on rotten tomatoes. so in therary it should be good; )
Gosh, even your review got me choked up, and teary eyed... chills just from remembering watching the scenes in the theater. So, so good. Impactful. This movie will change a person's life.
Devin Symonds ok lets not slander moonlight. It’s not my favorite of those films nominated but it’s incredibly directed and acted and also it’s super culturally important
@@ronaldmcdonald2817 Damien Chazelle gives one of the best directing performances of the decade with La La Land. He 100% deserved the Oscar, way above Gibson
@@micahadamson4309 Chazelle did a great job directing La La Land but Gibsons direction on Hacksaw Ridge is simply better. How he directed the war scenes is incredible and honestly better then just getting people to dance.
I know the word hero is thrown out a lot these days, but Desmond Doss truly defines what it means to be a hero, and his story is truly inspiring. The part at the end of the trailer where Doss is asking God to help him 'save one more' is such an emotionally powerful scene, and it honestly brought me to tears. This movie was one of the best I've seen in years, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Andrew Garfield and Mel Gibson both at least deserve Oscar nominations for this amazing film.
Ofer Mizrahi nah man. He pissed off the jews after his anti semetic rant against his ex jewish wife oksana. He is never winning an oscar again.. Hollywood is a jewish harem.
That scene in which Desmond attended his first casualty who had had his legs blown off and the other medic told him to leave him while the guy was pleading for Desmond not to abandon him. That was so powerful becuase I actually exspected him to do it as an lesson in the reality of the situation, but he stayed anyway.
He kinda did. And there is also a great scene when he doubts himself. So in a way he must also prove to himself that he is not a coward and that he is not wrong for staying true to good beliefs.
I bought it today with Apocalypto. I just like how it made Jesus seem more like a man than as the son of god. Also, his whipping scene is absolutely brutal but so well made, you can tell there was a great director behind it.
Hacksaw Ridge now, and Silence coming out in December...sounds like Andrew Garfield could be in 2 of the best movies of the year. He's doing what Tom Hardy did last year being in Mad Max: Fury Road and The Revenant. Go Garfield my boy.
It's a Martin scorcese movie about Andrew finding a catholic priest tortured in Japan back when Christianity was hated in Asia. That movie was really emotional and great watch it.
What hit close to home for me is that my dad's dad was a Navy Corpsman on Okinawa and was doing the same thing in the same place at the same time as Desmond Doss (maybe not to the same extant, but the same basic work).
OneMinuteMovieReviews That could be true. I do think Chris is a very well-reasoned critic; I just think it's funny when he sneaks the one flaw in at the end, therefore ending the possibility of the +.
This movie was amazing. The acting was great. I saw it with my dad and he was astounded that a lot of the main actors were not American because there accents were so good. The man sitting in front of me was in okanowa during the war and it was incredibly emotional.
What do you actually give a fuck if he gave the movie an A or an A+, his review is what's important. I had no idea this film existed and I can't wait to see it now. If I or you rate it an A+ then fantastic. It's easy to criticise reviews of films you haven't seen and it's easier to have tiny little problems stand out in your head and lower your rating with masterpieces than popcorn movies. Chris originally gave Drive an A and it's one of his favourite movies!
Yeah exactly, it's the fact a tiny flaw makes it an A where I've seen Chris talk about movies that got A+'s and had some flaws but kept the rating it makes no sense.
I just got back from seeing this movie about an hour ago. Man there is so much to touch on and so much to discuss about this film that I'll most likely be reviewing it myself. The acting was fantastic, I knew it was going to be once I saw the cast. Andrew Garfield really surprised me in one of his recent films called 99 Homes. If you haven't seen it, I recommend it. Now, Hugo Weaving...I think he surprised me the most. I haven't seen him do many serious roles such as this and man did he nail it was such a powerful performance. One thing I couldn't agree more on was what you said about the ending. I would've loved to see more about the characters after the fact. Instead we got text and other stuff which I won't say because I don't want to spoil the movie for anyone else. It definitely bothered me too, and because of the way it was done, it left me feeling like it was an abrupt ending. There was a lot of build up and I would've liked juuuust a little bit more. However, I really enjoyed this movie, and I think I'll like it the more that I think about it. I have heard others compare it to Saving Private Ryan and that's a bit of a stretch for me. If it's in regards to the brutal war scenes then yes, some of it comes close BUT Saving Private Ryan is a much better movie in my opinion. It's actually one of, if not my favorite movie of all time. The cinematography in this film was really well done, like you said. Especially when it comes to the battle scenes. I don't usually see movies multiple times in the theater but I'm definitely considering doing so with this one. Great review, Stuckmann.
HUGO WEAVING...probably one of the most underrated actors ever and glad to see ANDREW GARFIELD have a life after being a superhero, playing a superhero is usually a career killer when you try to move on.
Who else was so confused when Chris is glorifying how great this movie is, "one of the best war movies ever made" and then doesn't give the movie his hints rating. This movie is so much better than Civil War and Deadpool, don't know what Chris was on with the grading on this one.
MovieFan77 What is then? Personally the over saturation of superhero movies the past few years gets rather tiresome from both Marvel and DC, but damn...The other options to choose from is Suicide Squad or Batman vs. Superman...Honestly, I would pick the former any day of the week.
BOCLAN2000 In the Deadpool movie review he said that not every movie he gives an A+ is one of the best movies of all time. He said that it meant that movie was the best that it could've been.
Shavinder1999 It would've gotten an A+ If It didn't have any issues at all. If you paid any attention towards the end of the review, Chris points out his only issue with the film.
This movie was a literal edge of your seat film. My fiancé and I started watching it while laying on our couch. Once the movie picks up, we were both sat up and truly blown away by this film.
Joanna K it's his opinion... Personally I'd give the same (because I'd really liked to see the end of that story between Doss and his father/family, which was built up so well).
just try to remember that mel had a religious awakening and religion makes ppl retarded. He thought his jesus fellow was killed by jews, guess he forgot in that myth that jesus had to do that in order for everything else to happen but oh well lol... no evidence even shows the guy existed yet ppl r takin up arms to defend him..crazy world
Really loved that you acknowledged Hugo Weavings performance. I thought he was stellar. He took a character that we have seen many times in films before, but made him really sympathetic. It made me realise how so many generations of men in the 20th century have struggled in a vicious cycle of having a father like this who served (WW1) and saw some brutal shit, then becoming that exact same father themselves after serving in the next conflict(WW2) and coming home damaged, to then see the same for their son to go to war(Vietnam) and come home broken and traumatised. These men are remembered as heroes and yet the government's of so many countries does nothing to help them when they get home. No wonder so many men struggle to come to terms with their place in the modern world and understanding their emotions. I feel my family male line is fortunate in that my grandfather was just a smidge too young for WW2 and my father too young for Vietnam. Anyway Hugo Weaving was superb.
i'm a Seventh Day Adventist, and something i've been wondering is if our church is mentioned at all? He is kind of a hero in our church but I haven't heard anywhere if it at least mentions the SDA church?
They do mention something about Saturday being his sabbath or something like that but i'm not sure. I'm not very religious so I'm sorry if i messed up the terminology
He says he doesnt want to fight on Saturdays and the commander says something like So we'll just tell the enemys not to attack on Saturdays because thats Pvt Doss's holy day.Something like that
Chris, i didnt saw Hicksaw Ridge yet, but if you are interested in good war/dramma movie about war chaos and the bad side of nationalism doctrine, try to watch "Wołyń" by Wojciech Smarzowski. Its a recent polish film and IT has made very emotional discussions in Poland. Thanks, I hope You will watch it.
I know 'The Pianist', one of my favourite war movies. But "Wołyń" is far more realistic and surrealistic at the same time. Its hard to find words to describe it well. Thanks!
It's Doss, isn't it? Just because violence is shown--in all its ugliness--doesn't mean it's being 'glorified.' My dad would've loved to have seen this movie; he was a fan of films just like this. I'm going to watch this for him.
So you nitpick with this movie and not give it an A+ but u dont nitpick with Deadpool and Civil War and you give them two films an A+? Never said anything negative about you Chris but I can't believe you are an actual comic book fan boy. Comparing this review to your Civil War review it sounds like this movie was a lot more powerful and had a lot more meaning and you even enjoyed it a lot more. I won't be surprised if you give Doctor Strange an A+
Joel Dalgleish Oh no, he has a genre preference? He enjoys some movies more because of his background loving comics? How will he ever get over you noticing that he likes superhero movies? It's almost like he's an actual person.
Tristan Ludwig Never really had a problem with him loving superhero movies and yeah I know he's an actual person but he is meant to be a FILM critic and not be bias towards Superhero movies. Normally he is not bias at all but now he mostly is. He went from giving incredible movies like Birdman and Whiplash an A+ that actually deserve it to movies that don't really deserve an A+ like Deadpool and Civil War. Not hating on them two movies but c'mon... He couldn't find a flaw in Deadpool but could find one tiny flaw in Creed last year. Hell his excuse for gving Deadpool an A+ was because he was never bored in it!? There was heaps of movies that he reviewed that he didn't find boring at all and he didn't give them A+. I'm still a huge fan of Stuckmann who I have been watching for 5 years but man he gives an A+ away too easily to comic book movies these days.
Joel Dalgleish Like he said in his review for Civil War, he's not some comic book fanboy, he just likes good movies. In the past, the only other A+s he's given to comic book movies are The Dark Knight Rises, The Dark Knight, and The Avengers. Plus, he gave no comic book movie an A last year. Also, remember, he gave Hacksaw an A; an A is still a good grade, and Chris even said that it was one of his favorites of the year. What I'm trying to say is is that it's just coincidental that he gave two comic book movies an A+. Chris doesn't bias, he just likes good movies.
Landon Wilson Cause last year only three comic book movies came out and one of them was Fan4stic. This year you had at least 6 or 7 comic book movies. Yeah I know he likes good movies but the only good movies he seems to give an A+ to these days are this year are superhero movies. He said Hacksaw Ridge was a good movie and he didn't give it an A+ cause of one little flaw but he couldn't find one flaw with Deadpool?
YES..!! Mel Gibson sooooo needed this to be a hit.. Looking forward to seeing more from him! Sick of the garbage Hollywood spews out... We NEED more actually talented people like Mel. Going to see this the week it comes out!
Mel Gibson is an incredible director. Terrible things he said and did not withstanding, he is simply amazing at what he does. He remains one of my favorite directors without question.
Why do you people think I gave a shit what he said? I actually thought that rant of his was hilarious. And before people jump down my throat I'm not a racist or sexist and I happen to think Mel put out some of his best work after he snapped. And also there are very few private conversations when you are a celebrity, you live your life under a microscope, I'm just glad it didn't completely destroy his career.
What I don’t get is how Garfield hasn’t been in a bunch of blockbusters ever since. He was THAT GOOD. And it’s not that he can just play crazy emotional dramas, or gritty war movies, I’m talking romances, or comedies. He’s so charming as a personality actor
I grew up Adventist myself. I live this movie for what it is and yes, not pushing Christianity should be the point. It’s there to show faith, not religion. Love it!
I finally watched this amazing film yesterday. It's everything you said it was and more. As an interesting side note, there wasn't any real foul language exploited in the film. And unlike most HELLywood movies, Mel Gibson didn't have his actors blaspheming Christ's name throughout. And being a Christian myself, I'm most appreciative to Mel Gibson for that alone. p.s. HollyWIERD usually shows God hatred, contempt & disrespect in most movies. So this was quite unusual. A friend once tried explaining to me (*AND I QUOTE*) "Movies have to blaspheme God's name in order to make the movie more real." Obviously, this isn't the case for "Hacksaw Ridge".
Yah you guys rule! My favorite Aussie films are The Proposition, Animal Kingdom, and The Rover (I guess anything with Guy Pearce is usually worth while)
Any love for Red Dog or the Mad Max movies? We made those too! (There's also The Castle, but it seems that only Australians can truly appreciate that film.)
Yeah it pisses me off that no one other then Australia would have the movie set in Australia are history is pretty great not enough movies are made on it, their should be a movie based around the black Saturday incident.
Just finishing watching it again, no matter how many times I see it, it never fails to give me chills. With what he did and the music and to know that all of that and more really happened. . It's an incredible movie
Galen Marek Strange will probably have a massive opening followed by drastic drops as superhero movies tend to be very frontloaded. Hacksaw will probably have a moderate opening due to it being against Strange, but if its really as good as I've been hearing, word of mouth will help it make decent grosses in the end
Chris your reviews are getting better and better - I am seeing a marked improvement in your style ever since you moved to your new house. Maybe the new office has helped inspire your writting? IDK - just keep up the good work!
I personally think quality wise, this is the best film of 2016 and I personally think this film is equal to if not better than Braveheart which is a tall order alone. I'd give this film an A+
The main issue I had with this movie I think was their use of music and dialogue. Whilst I understand that Mel has a way of proving emotion through cinematography and non-verbal direction alone, I think with some more interesting dialogue, the character arches could have been clearer and more meaningful to experience for an audience. As for the music, I thought it was quite predictable at times, and partially ruined the raw emotion and heartbreak of the incredible battle and post-battle scenes. This kind of drew attention away from Mel's incredible direction, and towards the cheesy "hero music". Maybe it's just me being a bit of a music geek and these minute details definitely didn't completely take away the high intensity and emotion of the movie as a whole. Great job Andrew, and great job Mel.
i wholeheartedly agree. it tried to be WAAAY to sobby... Some of the best moments are when the music isnt trying to tell u to feel.... it was just over the top.
This movie floored me. My opinion of Gibson was soured after his breakdown and the drama behind the passion, but this movie truly was beautiful in every sense of the word.
PrussianSwedish it doesn't really focus on the war, and is basically captain america 15 years earlier, but if they actually show stuff like tanks, smgs, the really cool tech stuff that people don't know about etc. then maybe.
You have no idea how much my movie watching experience has improved because of you. I don't think i've watched a terrible movie since i started watching your videos.Thank ya sir.
hteekay Compared to what? Judge Dredd? Bruce Willis running around New York looking for Scar and quickly followed by Willis blowing up an asteroid? ah the late '90s. So much fun.
Believe it or not, Mel Gibson actually DOWNPLAYED Desmond Doss's heroism in the film because he didn't think the audience would believe it.
Xavier Vega wait what??
PEPSI Yeah he actually saved more like 79 men and 3 Japanese soldiers.
Tanner Kramer that’s because it’s been requested by the real Desmond doss himself. He believes God only should take the credit due, not him. It was a real request to Mel Gibson before buying the rights of the book. Bless his soul, Desmond Doss.

Not at all the best director, but certainly a fantastic visionary director.

Hacksaw Ridge was spectacular
I rate it the same as 'saving private ryan', it was that good.
Gump's Videos don't you mean Amazing?
Totally amazing..
You could even say.... awesometacular?
FoI2eman 82 saving private Ryan isn’t good
I thought it was going to be an A+
A men.
Riley Conway i hate it when he does that
How could it? it doesnt have ryan gosling in it?
It did... you might have missed the plus sign on his helmet ;-)
Stu N I don't remember Chris giving Only God Forgives an A+
So u recommend it to 5 year olds too?
I'm jk I'm being annoying 😂
+Dick Compton lol I'm sure if nine year Olds saw this they would be scared for life
meme Villa my 7 year old brother saw it. He, liked it
I wish Mel would make a movie about King David and the wars he fought. That would be totally awesome!
That is such a good idea, but as Daniel said, make it a trilogy.
Daniel Salisbury I think Peter Jackson can handle that very well too but I doubt he'd be willing to show as much gore as Mel Gibson would. The gritty depiction of those wars would go a long way to enhance the experience.
Ocelot4R I don't know. Remember "Release the prisoners"?
That it was done on a 40 million dollar is the most incredible part.
Mel Gibson is a genius.
40 million...
the dark night cheap. Think of other less detailed movies that cost more than 100 million. True work of art.
@@urajeenus exactly. I dont even know why there are 100 million dollar budget films. Unnecessary
Wisco9er Yeah, Ehiplash had a budget of 3 million.
The Raid cost less than a million.
"Its like Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield in amazing spiderman except... not a shitty... movie..." THE SHADE
Guys. This isn't the real Chris. We all saw the real Chris die. This is ghost Chris.
Impostor Chris
didn't you see the dust rise at the end? he's super chris in black suit now duuuhh

Sweg yo Sweg yeah they do
It just feels sad that most people who made reviews on Rotten Tomatoes gave this film a very low score just because of Mel Gibson's past. What's the point of rating a movie if you're just going to be biased
Like who
Name one
@@litgirlgamer7914 Look it up idiot
You're right. Just looked it up.
This movie is 96% easy, those people that give reviews are fucking stupid.
Nope
So sad that this video was released post-mortem. RIP Chris.
Matt Ellmers Check out Chris's latest "Cabin in the Woods" video- you'll see
Dare to Know Fuuuck you had me for a second.
Riley White :)
Geez... you got me for a second :)
Damn it.....you almost give me a heart attack dude XD.
After watching this film and reading about this truly incredible man, I can safely say that I have a new hero in my life
You need more likes
Whoever said the war scenes were gloryfying violence must have suffered a severe case of poo brain.
@G G Jeez, you really want everyone to know that this film has "terrible" war scenes based on your opinion, do you?
@@danwhowatches707 i just looked at dude's comments, damn this guy hates the movie lmaoo
@G G They are supposed to be horrible and tragic.
I didn't see any glory in it. I hope never to see any such thing first-hand.
I am shocked that you did not give this an A+ after the praise you gave it. Nevertheless, can`t wait to see this movie!
Martynas Blažaitis With both Horror movies and serious drama movies, he is by far a lot more strict with his grading criteria...He gave 12 years a slave an A as well
We just came out of the screening and we only have good things to say about it, but it's still not worthy of a perfect score. It's the kind of movie that's as good as it could be (which is truly excellent), but by it's surface-level nature it cant be ranked as high as films like Saving Private Ryan or Apocalypse Now, which truly deserve an A+
it is still a 9/10 or something along those lines. and yeah it looks great
Kristian Andreasen Yeah we gave it a bit lower, but hey, more about the words than the score right? It's current average from critics is a 6.8 anyway, so Chris was very fair to it :)
Breaking Banter yeah but metascore does not really justefice most movies from what i've seen atleast. 8.8 on imdb and 94% on rotten tomatoes. so in therary it should be good; )
When you say you "went back home in almost complete silence" does that mean you normally talk to yourself after the movie?
Just kidding haha great review :)
Vincent Knight I think he meant no radio
I do
I do
Gosh, even your review got me choked up, and teary eyed... chills just from remembering watching the scenes in the theater. So, so good. Impactful. This movie will change a person's life.
Desmond "Doss" not Ross

I just saw the film. This is my favorite "best picture" film #oscar
Unfortunately, Hacksaw Ridge didn't actually win Best Picture, and I find that hard to believe. Thanks a lot, Moonlight
Devin Symonds ok lets not slander moonlight. It’s not my favorite of those films nominated but it’s incredibly directed and acted and also it’s super culturally important
Zach Ruggiero I don’t know the directing by Jenkins was overall very mediocre. Gibson did a far better job and he should have won.
Mel Gibson deserves to win a directors Oscar for Hacksaw Ridge. I also want Andrew Garfield needs to win the main actor Oscar.
Official Filmilen ..He wont win. He has pissed off the Jews.
Official Filmilen Well Garfield will get nominated for something this year.
Mark Crasto Fu*k you. He won't win the Oscar because of La La Land.
Ofer Mizrahi nah man. He pissed off the jews after his anti semetic rant against his ex jewish wife oksana. He is never winning an oscar again..
Hollywood is a jewish harem.
I'm jewish too
That scene in which Desmond attended his first casualty who had had his legs blown off and the other medic told him to leave him while the guy was pleading for Desmond not to abandon him. That was so powerful becuase I actually exspected him to do it as an lesson in the reality of the situation, but he stayed anyway.
Desmond never tried to convince anyone he wasn't a coward
He kinda did. And there is also a great scene when he doubts himself. So in a way he must also prove to himself that he is not a coward and that he is not wrong for staying true to good beliefs.
I don’t get how one could call him a coward, going into war without a weapon to defend yourself requires more bravery.
So happy to see Mel Gibson directing again. Apocalypto was spectacular and criminally underrated.
Spinlok I agree.
Quentin Tarantino called it a masterpiece and the best film of the year!
yeah because the spanish came to south america in the year 900, right?
Marcus Carlzén huh?
it's set during the mayan downfall, and that happend in around the year 900.
"The war scenes were like horror scenes"
Absolutely nailed it!
That first bit (not going to spoil) I swear I had a fucking heart-attack!
Like, jeez!!
The Passion of the Christ is simply one of the most brilliantly made films I have seen.
I heard about that too.
I bought it today with Apocalypto. I just like how it made Jesus seem more like a man than as the son of god. Also, his whipping scene is absolutely brutal but so well made, you can tell there was a great director behind it.
Officer Dominick Izzo - The Warrior's Life I'm probably the only person that does not agree
@Late Reviews ...this is from 2 years ago dude
This comment has aged horribly
Hacksaw Ridge now, and Silence coming out in December...sounds like Andrew Garfield could be in 2 of the best movies of the year. He's doing what Tom Hardy did last year being in Mad Max: Fury Road and The Revenant. Go Garfield my boy.
except that he's the lead actor and carries both films, now that's impressive =)
Jordan Cadwell what is Silence about? I havent found anything?
It's a Martin scorcese movie about Andrew finding a catholic priest tortured in Japan back when Christianity was hated in Asia. That movie was really emotional and great watch it.
finally released in india. now i can go watch!
In the U.K. We've got to wait another month to get it
What hit close to home for me is that my dad's dad was a Navy Corpsman on Okinawa and was doing the same thing in the same place at the same time as Desmond Doss (maybe not to the same extant, but the same basic work).
Wow, sounds like the rare A+... A+... still A+... "I have but one flaw..." Awww, so close.
Anthony Miglieri at least he gave a flaw, maybe he saw the comments complaining about him giving As with no flaws
OneMinuteMovieReviews That could be true. I do think Chris is a very well-reasoned critic; I just think it's funny when he sneaks the one flaw in at the end, therefore ending the possibility of the +.
Anthony Miglieri he is a reviewer, not a critic. Big difference.
Johnny Utah What's the difference?
Anthony Miglieri reminds me of his guardians of the galaxy review..
everything was perfect until he started talking about Ronan
This movie was amazing. The acting was great. I saw it with my dad and he was astounded that a lot of the main actors were not American because there accents were so good. The man sitting in front of me was in okanowa during the war and it was incredibly emotional.
You netflix and chill with your dad
What do you actually give a fuck if he gave the movie an A or an A+, his review is what's important. I had no idea this film existed and I can't wait to see it now. If I or you rate it an A+ then fantastic. It's easy to criticise reviews of films you haven't seen and it's easier to have tiny little problems stand out in your head and lower your rating with masterpieces than popcorn movies. Chris originally gave Drive an A and it's one of his favourite movies!
Umar Bajwa great comment
it doesn't matter it just didn't maek any sense... so some people asked why cause it was little weird
Yeah exactly, it's the fact a tiny flaw makes it an A where I've seen Chris talk about movies that got A+'s and had some flaws but kept the rating it makes no sense.
Umar Bajwa try captain america
This movie made me even a stronger believer
ErJ Gameplay that's great to hear, and it truly was something how this movie portrayed Christianity in such a positive light.
This is in my opinion second best Christian movie ever created
Fuck god
john bill really dude? Even if you don’t agree, that’s just uncalled for.
@@Houdm come one dude. It's perfectly fine to not agree with ones beliefs but that's unneccessary
THANK YOU, Chris! I'm so happy to see someone appreciate this excellent film appropriately.
HUGO WEAVING...probably one of the most underrated actors ever and glad to see ANDREW GARFIELD have a life after being a superhero, playing a superhero is usually a career killer when you try to move on.
The scene introducing Vince Vaughn is one of my favorite scenes in all of movies, hahaha
Who else was so confused when Chris is glorifying how great this movie is, "one of the best war movies ever made" and then doesn't give the movie his hints rating.
This movie is so much better than Civil War and Deadpool, don't know what Chris was on with the grading on this one.
The grades of different movies ARE NOT to be compared.
Deadpool and Civil war don't deserve to have A+. They are not the best even in their own genre.
He said that it meant that movie was the best that it could've been.
different genre's dude, some movies are made in a specific tone. you cant compare this movie to those movies.
Really? Chris I thought it was for sure getting an A+ after all you said. Disappointed.
Shavinder1999 It would've gotten an A+ If It didn't have any issues at all. If you paid any attention towards the end of the review, Chris points out his only issue with the film.
I'm calling it, Passion of the Christ 2 is gonna top this
To quote Southpark:"Mel Gibson is meshugge, but goddamn, this guy knows how to make great movies."
Cartman: "fuck you kyle, you fucking jew"
"My nipples, they hurt when I twist them!" - Mel Gibson

This movie was a literal edge of your seat film. My fiancé and I started watching it while laying on our couch. Once the movie picks up, we were both sat up and truly blown away by this film.
Why not A+ ??
Joanna K I know right!
Will a + make the movie better for you?
Have you seen it yourself to make your own mind up?
Joanna K it's his opinion... Personally I'd give the same (because I'd really liked to see the end of that story between Doss and his father/family, which was built up so well).

fulanitoflyer yeah yeah....
Pretending to be edgy by hating an awesome movie.
Despite being Jewish, I'm actually somewhat glad Gibson is making a comeback
He may seem like an awful human being, but at least he's a good filmmaker.
just try to remember that mel had a religious awakening and religion makes ppl retarded. He thought his jesus fellow was killed by jews, guess he forgot in that myth that jesus had to do that in order for everything else to happen but oh well lol... no evidence even shows the guy existed yet ppl r takin up arms to defend him..crazy world
Matt Simpson Yeah but he must have also forgotten that Jesus was Jewish himself
Matt Simpson God doesn't exist
Ben Wasserman supposedly jewish* , there is zero evidence that points to him ever existing
Agapey I'm an Adventist too and I actually met Desmond Doss at a Pathfinder camporee. He's definitely a hero.
BarcelonaDude6 Wow wish I would've met him... I've read on other reviews that they do mention his religion, so i hope thats true :)
They do mention something about Saturday being his sabbath or something like that but i'm not sure. I'm not very religious so I'm sorry if i messed up the terminology
Agapey Yeah, Garfield's character does say at one point that he is a Seventh Day Adventist. There are some parts of the movie that tie into that too.
He says he doesnt want to fight on Saturdays and the commander says something like So we'll just tell the enemys not to attack on Saturdays because thats Pvt Doss's holy day.Something like that
The commercial for the movie makes it look so cheesey. Thank gosh its a good movie
My exact thoughts haha
it is good
the movie is incredibly violent, possibly more violent than saving private ryan. all those tv spots can't show that shit lmao.
Yeah, I saw the trailers for this movie and thought it was gonna be garbage. Seems I was wrong, and that's a good thing.
UnbelievabIeMontages how could you be anymore violent than Saving Private Ryan? lol that's hardcore shit right there.
I was so annoyed we didn't get to see Andrew Garfield's character re-unite with his wife. That's all I wanted to see at the end man!😂
Ignoring TASM bashing. That aside, Glad to see Mel Gibson has made another great film as a director!! I also loved THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST.
Yeah same and it seems he's trying to repair his image
jdg20042001 I agree. I thought The Passion of the Christ was great.
Funniest BDSM snuff film I've seen!
Lukrowany Pierniczek you should watch "the pianist"
I know 'The Pianist', one of my favourite war movies. But "Wołyń" is far more realistic and surrealistic at the same time. Its hard to find words to describe it well. Thanks!
and you should look out for a german production called "stalingrad"
One of my favorite war/drama movies is 'Paths of glory'. You should check it out
Lukrowany Pierniczek he mostly watches shitty super hero movies.
My favorite movie of 2016.
It's Doss, isn't it? Just because violence is shown--in all its ugliness--doesn't mean it's being 'glorified.' My dad would've loved to have seen this movie; he was a fan of films just like this. I'm going to watch this for him.
the war scenes in this movie made saving private Ryan look like a PG film.
they were also very unrealistic LMAO
Oscar A. Ward how?
Oscar A. Ward unrealistic because you were there and saw what actually happened. So tell us then, what would be "realistic"?
What? He literally slaps a grenade away and it still explodes almost right next to him, and he's fine.
Josh Carboni That's what the story said.
You gotta review braveheart some day
So you nitpick with this movie and not give it an A+ but u dont nitpick with Deadpool and Civil War and you give them two films an A+? Never said anything negative about you Chris but I can't believe you are an actual comic book fan boy. Comparing this review to your Civil War review it sounds like this movie was a lot more powerful and had a lot more meaning and you even enjoyed it a lot more. I won't be surprised if you give Doctor Strange an A+
Joel Dalgleish Oh no, he has a genre preference? He enjoys some movies more because of his background loving comics? How will he ever get over you noticing that he likes superhero movies? It's almost like he's an actual person.
Joel Dalgleish Truth!
Not since Jai Courtney being good in Suicide Squad has something been so shocking!
That should be a blurb on the dvd cover
i agree, "acpocalipto" is a phenomenal film, and my favorite gibson work...
YES..!! Mel Gibson sooooo needed this to be a hit.. Looking forward to seeing more from him! Sick of the garbage Hollywood spews out... We NEED more actually talented people like Mel. Going to see this the week it comes out!
mel gibson may be racist, but hollywood is an even bigger racist
Absolutely 100%..!!
Zach Derbas He neglected to mention Passion of the Christ as one of his greatest achievements.
why is mel gibson in your opinion a racist? what did he do or say to let you think that?
His opinions about the Jewish people. He got drunk off his ass at one point and blurted out a lot of racist remarks about Jews.
Desmond ROSS? @0:09, I'm pretty sure his name is Desmond Doss... -_-
Really great small scale war film. I felt inspired at the end after watching it. God Bless Desmond Doss and his gentle soul.
great review Chris... Hugo Weaving,Theresa Palmer and Sam Worthington are good
and spider man
Mel Gibson is an incredible director. Terrible things he said and did not withstanding, he is simply amazing at what he does. He remains one of my favorite directors without question.
who cares what he said.. its in the past
in a private conversation and also nobody is a perfect saint.
Idiots care what he said.
Which is better: this or Max Steel ?
Max Steel by far
880User088 Nine Lives
Norm of the north atw
Tf are you on about? Max Steel is the best film of all time, worthy of all Oscars!
Max Steel, but both are far inferior to Fant four stick
Despite saying DESMOND ROSS.... twice, good review, Its DOSS.
Nicholas Bachman yes
Australia dosent get enough credit on the movies that we create.
Chopper with Eric Bana's a fantastic film.
NewhamMatt fury road got ALL the international love last year
Yeah it pisses me off that no one other then Australia would have the movie set in Australia are history is pretty great not enough movies are made on it, their should be a movie based around the black Saturday incident.
Just finishing watching it again, no matter how many times I see it, it never fails to give me chills. With what he did and the music and to know that all of that and more really happened. . It's an incredible movie
This movie shouldn't have come out against Doctor Strange...
..why not lol.. never under estimate Mel Gibson and his fans....this will do well..
They kind of cancel each other out. I'm going to see strange Thursday and hacksaw ridge on Friday or Saturday.
+james williams So does Steven Spielberg and look at what happened with the BFG
+james williams These movies more or less cannibalize each other.
Chris your reviews are getting better and better - I am seeing a marked improvement in your style ever since you moved to your new house. Maybe the new office has helped inspire your writting? IDK - just keep up the good work!
Dude, he's always been good
I personally think quality wise, this is the best film of 2016 and I personally think this film is equal to if not better than Braveheart which is a tall order alone.
I'd give this film an A+
Was this filmed in Australia? A lot of aussies in it.
yep!
Yeah, the majority of the cast were Australian's and it was filmed on a farm in Sydney. As an Aussie, it was great seeing that. Amazing film.
Can confirm this, i worked on it !
Lux Bellator as an Aussie myself it was great seeing theses locations they filmed at .
God Bless you Australians!
I wish there was more movies based on World War 1, because World War 2 is overdone.
SpaceOstrich - Gaming News well would wonder woman count?
PrussianSwedish it doesn't really focus on the war, and is basically captain america 15 years earlier, but if they actually show stuff like tanks, smgs, the really cool tech stuff that people don't know about etc. then maybe.
If you're not afraid of french movies, take a look at "Joyeux Noël" (Merry Christmas)
Paul Dumont I might give it a look
Kaon Christopher Nolan is coming out with Dunkirk in the summer which is about WWI
my heart felt very heavy at those rescue scenes.
You have no idea how much my movie watching experience has improved because of you.

Stuckmann coming to LA for the Schmoedown in December!! yess!!!
Is he going to face Jeremy Jahns?
Road Glider how do you know?
+Jake G 2187 the fckin face off of the century
Let's see if he acts like a stuck up, obnoxious bitch-boy like he did on Movie Fights.
The superman logo looked like a bad CG, I couldn't take my eyes off it.
It’s 2021 and I barely watched this film 😭😭😭😭 I got teary eye so many times what a righteous man, Desmond Doss 🙏🏽 rip
Can't wait for Mel Gibson in Logan... wait
"Desmond Ross" Close, Chris, but it's *Desmonds Doss*
This is my favourite movie of the year
I feel like if Chris watches this a few more times, he'll say this is better than Braveheart.
This was WAYYYY better and worse with the gore scenes than private Ryan. This was so well made. God this movie was so amazing and inspiring.
Girl! You need to watch Saving Private Ryan again then, Hacksaw Ridge is fantastic but nothing comes close to Saving Private Ryan.
Yea its great, but not better than Soldat James Ryan
after seeing this movie, my respect for the army grew a 1000 times
Notification squad?
Yep.
KevinMorales Hey hey
yes
As long as it's not Suicide Squad...
"Serious movie.... like the Lost World"
It wasn't a romcom or a slapstick movie like Dodgeball. Doesn't take a genius to work out what he meant.
The movie's plot was a joke tho...
hteekay Compared to what? Judge Dredd? Bruce Willis running around New York looking for Scar and quickly followed by Willis blowing up an asteroid? ah the late '90s. So much fun.
+Steven Lornie still don't get it? nvm then
Yeah I was thinking more along the lines of Return to Paradise, Psycho and Domestic Disturbance... not Lost world
