    I went through a period in my life when I was literally down to my last £5 and when that happened I had this bizarre feeling of calm as I now had pretty much no choices to make whereas when I had £100 I had all these decisions to make , what bills to pay , what food I could afford etc..
    The point of that is that money will never be the arbiter of how happy money makes you . Harry Enfield did a great sketch where he went around telling people in a Birmingham accent that he was “ considerably richer than you ! “ and the joke was on him as he just was a twat ! 😅
    Ps I recovered from that bad period and I’m fine though I’m sure no one cares 🤣

    The talent in this four-piece band is extraordinary. All multi-instrumentalists, all singers, all songwriters. Lead guitarist and lead singer of this song, Eric Stewart, was the guitarist and eventual lead singer of The Mindbenders, singing 'A Groovy Kind of Love', going on to co-write with Paul McCartney, and was the chief engineer. Graham Gouldman, writing hit songs for The Yardbirds at 16... and Godley and Creme!
    To really appreciate how diverse their music was you can pick on two songs from one album, Original Soundtrack, that were successive singles - 'Life is a Minestrone' followed by 'I'm Not in Love': quirky daft followed by a beautiful, ironic love song with one of the greatest arrangements of all time. The album also contains 'Une Nuit a Paris'...

    I've been on both sides of the frence. A balance is very necessary. Life isn't a competition. But do what the squirrels do and save your nuts!
    10cc was Lol Creme, Kevin Godley, Eric Stewart and Graham Gouldman. G
    Graham wrote a lot of British hits (No Milk Today, Bus Stop, Groovy Kind Of Love). Eric Stewwart was in the Mindbenders and they made hits out of Graham's songs. Lol and Kevin were art students. Eric, Kevin and Lol formed Hotlegs, and then Graham joined to make 10CC. After four years. Lol and Kevin buggered off to become Godley And Creme and they directed music videos and did the ''Cry'' song.
    The Buggles are a different thing. After ''Video Kills Radio Stars'', Buggles joined YES and then Buggles singer Trevor Horn produced YES's ''Owner Of A Broken Heart'' and everybody on ZZT records (Frankie Goes Hollywood, Art Of Noise). The other Buggle bloke joined Asia. Graham and Eric continued 10CC in the 80's and nobody cared. Lol Creme joined Art Of Noise in 1999 and nobody cared. That's the story!

      @@hanierfamily I read up on all that in the 70's and 80's. We have this music historian named Glen A. Baker. He's still around, but he's old and seems only half-interested these days. Anyway, G.A. Baker used to take up airtime talking about all these groups and mapping out how these careers unfolded and who did what.
      So, all of what I typed out is what I learned from Glen A. Baker when he'd come on TV and give us a dose of music history.
      Really nice bloke too!

      Yeah, I've noticed Lol Creme popping up a lot in Trevor Horn-related videos and especially ones from the past 20 years. My very first Godley & Creme impression had been a TV performance of their song 'An Englishman In New York' (later covered by Sting - didn't sound anything like it 😉) when I was 10, which had totally weirded me out because their backing band had looked like mannequins that had come to life; Kinda the same effect Kraftwerk had had on me two years earlier 😅

      @Robbo766 Рік тому +2

      @@mightyV444 I remember that ''English Man In New York'' film clip on a show we had in Australia called Sound Unlimited. I remember seeing these mechanical mannequins or robots playing with the music, and Kevin singing and Lol conducting the band. It was a pretty memorable video at the time, and I believe the Countdown kids ran it into the Top 10. I never liked anything else by Godley and Creme but the ''Cry'' song. I didn't like ''Under Your Thumb'' or ''Wedding Bells''. I got sick of Trevor Horn records by the mid 80's. I hated ''Relax'' and ''Two Tribes''. I could tolerate ''Slave To The Rhythm'', but only just...

      @mightyV444 Рік тому +1

      @@Robbo766 - 'Slave To The Rhythm' was originally also meant to be a Frankie Goes To Hollywood song 😉 I do like their song 'Welcome To The Pleasuredome'. And I agree, 'Cry' is Godley&Creme's best song. To be fair, I don't know too many of theirs. There was one that had featured harmonicas in the video clip ('A Little Piece Of Heaven', I think) and another that was called 'Ten Thousand Angels', of which I only remember the chorus, though 🙂 But I don't remember 'Wedding Bells' or 'Under Your Thumb'; I'll have a listen...

    Great song. After you mentioned that you thought it was German TV, I went back and looked thinking it was Musik Laden. I didn't notice, but in any case, don't necessarily let that dissuade you from viewing that show. There is a performance from roughly the same time with Stevie Wonder; and although it isn't translating to the audience, it does to us. It is the best half hour of music on television that I've ever seen. Absolute fire. Yeah, as you said this group was made up of essentially two songwriting teams; G & C, and Stewart and Gouldman; all of whom were very prolific. Thanks for upload.
